FILM DESCRIPTION:
Easily excitable Neal Page (Steve Martin) is somewhat of a control freak. Trying to get home to Chicago to spend Thanksgiving with his wife (Laila Robins) and kids, his flight is rerouted to a distant city in Kansas because of a freak snowstorm, and his sanity begins to fray. Worse yet, he is forced to bunk up with talkative Del Griffith (John Candy), whom he finds extremely annoying. Together they must overcome the insanity of holiday travel to reach their intended destination.

Seeing John Candy as the devil for a few seconds was funny as hell xD!
Yeah, Del Griffith was Neal Page's personal Satan. 😆
@@megamouthspike1930 Haha!
The whole movie was gold but Candy as the Devil did it for me I laugh non stop to it
Pun intended, I guess
He relies he's with the grim reaper ☠😂🤣
"he says we're going the wrong way"
"Oh he's drunk! How would he know where we're going?"
I've heard that line some 500 times and I still laugh at it
"yeaaa, how would he know!?!?' Thankkkk youuuuuu!" - Beep, beep!
Timeless classic
Me too!
One of the most hilarious scenes in motion picture history. Truly.
It is!! I have no idea why it popped in my head again 🤣 Glad it did 😂
@@melissasalasblair5273 Reddit reminded me of it mentioning John Candy as the devil and I had to revisit this scene again. Man, so so funny.
😂🖐️
Absolutely. Just watched again now , laughed and laughed and so sad when Steve Martin realises at the end that John candy has nobody or a home to go to . Undoubtedly one of the best films of ALL time. 😁😁
You are so correct!!!!!! Not to mention the wind you hear with the trunk and rear hood airborne. Let’s also remember when the car got engulfed! Sounded like a blow torch😆😆😆😆😆
I love John Hughes humor. They turn into skeletons for a second lol.
😂😂
Just like the teen movie sometimes they back
John Hughes made some wonderful classic movies he was a great film director for sure
@@58twright love it. Same with the Uncle Buck scene where Macaulay is looking through the mail slot at Shanise and randomly there are 3 guys looking in hahahahahhaha
He would later use the same gag in Home Alone 2 when Marv gets electrocuted💀
Seeing John Candy briefly portray the devil at 2:02 solidifies this scene as one of the greatest in any comedy movie. 😂
This scene is a work of art
I love this movie so much. I wish to God John Candy had lived longer and made a couple more movies with Steve Martin. :)
I wonder why they didn't do more films together. Maybe they knew nothing could top this and were content with that. John lived quite a while after this one released so there was no reason they wouldn't have done more.
0:42 I love how the next scene is already being set up in this scene. If you watch the back seat, you can see the smoke coming from the discarded cigarette that blew back into the car just a little while earlier.
Radio still works, clear s a bell.
It's time for everybody to watch this on Thanksgiving day of 2022. Iconic Thanksgiving film.
Last year was its 35th anniversary of this movie from 2022 to 1987
Groundhog day, PTA on Thanksgiving, Die Hard for Xmas.
This scene has the perfect balance of comedy and suspense and goes from quiet to loud back to quiet. Honestly the writing is great but it's also shot in such a great way
The devil suit is perfect! It makes Steve Martin think he’s going to hell 😂
I always saw it as a "This guy has been sent by the devil himself" kinda thought.
Obviously everything about this scene is genius, but having watched this about 80 billion times, the fact that Del uses both feet to brake is SO very Del. Lol. Perfection.
And the way he bends the steering wheel down. Plus I can see why Chrysler products come with padded dashboards.
Back in 89 in college me and my roommates would watch this movie weekley on vcr until we learned all the dialogues…. brings back so many memories.
that was hilarious! "Your going the wrong way. ....How would he know where we are going?"
That line had me in tears and i just kept rewinding until i couldnt breathe 🤣🤣🤣
"Yeah, how would he know?"
I believe he says “you’re” 🤔

“Truck Truck Truck”😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆 The Face by Steve is Hysterical!
2:02
We ask ourselves, “Why does John Candy randomly turn into the devil?”
The answer, “Why not?”
funny and scary. Love Candy. This movie is a charm.
Once you've watched the movie up to that part....totally understandable...😂😂😂
Es como lo ve Steve desde su perspectiva en ese segundo
@@PabloTango Yeah, he sees him that way because he thinks at that second that Candy is trying to kill him
Classic scene. First time I saw it I almost died laughing. Magnificent comedy.
I laughed until I cried many, many times. This is one of the funniest things ever put onto film.
Classic instance of comedic genius from two hilarious actors
Greatest comedy of all time, and one of the greatest movies of all time. Also, John Candy was a treasure that died way before his time.
Apparently that was his time.
That few seconds of absolute silence at 2:09 as the luggage flies never fails to make my family crack up when we watch it each year at Thanksgiving.
Let's be reminded its his dead wife in there....
Neal’s expression @ 1:50 is PRICELESS, all like “Wait a minute, Del! NOW I see what they mean! We’re on the WRONG SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY!!! WE’RE GOING TO GET KILLED!!!”
I never understood by looking at the snow how did he realize?
@@nicklarosa1566 I think it's that he realized there was a median between the car he was riding in and the car of the people trying to warn him.
RIP John Candy and director John Hughes
Funniest scene ever . John candy as the devil was COMEDY GOLD😈😈😈😈👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽😂😂😭
"This joker wants to race!" 😂😂😂😂😂
🎉😂🌀💭
Watching this with my kids. We’d play this scene over and over. We all miss John!
This is my favourite movie. It made me start celebrating Thanksgiving. RIP John Candy, thanks for the laughs
So So proud of late beloved John Candy I miss you Canadian legend rest in peace you left to soon
The most iconic, funniest and best part of the entire movie. First time I saw this I laughed so hard. 🤣 🤣
I ALWAYS laugh so hard I cry through the whole thing 😂 TOO GOOD
I like to think the process was something like:
Writer A: "The scene where they pass between the two trucks is good, but it needs something."
Writer B: "How about we dress John Candy in a devil suit and have him laugh as it's happening?"
Writer A: "Genious!"
You gotta love how nobody stops to see if they're all right.
even more subtle, when John Candy starts honking the horn back at them , you can faintly see the smoke/cigarette smoldering in the backseat @0:42 secs in as Steve Martin awakes , it's quick, but there lol
Never noticed that..good eye
The bent steering wheel at the end. 😂
Just re-watched this classic with a friend. Always interesting to look back on 80s comedy movies after so long. Thank you for these clips.
Love this movie . I am from Wales . Me and my brother have a Thanksgiving tradition . We watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade at 14:30 live on CZcams then at night we have a huge meal then we watch this classic movie . After washing the plates we settle down with apple pie and custard and watch Garfield Thanksgiving special . We love America and American movies, traditions etc. Happy Thanksgiving everyone and I am thankful that my brother Richie who is my only family and best mate is alive and well . Was also overjoyed to discover that a new version is out now with deleted scenes reinstalled . It's about time ❤️❤️❤️
Your going the wrong way .
How would he know where we going ? 😂😂😂😂
Best Thanksgiving movie ever. 🤣
You know, I just realized that the people trying desperately to warn the two leads… they just disappear. We never see them after the car goes between the trucks. Did they frantically drive off to call for help? Did they just shrug and go “meh, oh well, we tried” and move on? Did they have to struggle with PTSD because they thought the two guys died in front of their eyes?
The truckers didn't stop either
@@MrMitchelljung Yeah, in real life those truckers would not have kept driving, and there would've been damage to the sides of their trailers and wouldn't have ignored that, there were freakin sparks flying.
I like how Del's trunk detaches from the roof and flies forward onto the highway. Obviously, that thing had to be sturdy, to not bust open. 😆
bro Sturdy? His trunk gives the ones T-Hanks used in Joe vs Volcano a run for there money!
@@bsgtrekfan88 Yeah, I remember in that movie he used those cases for their life raft
Maaaan I can watch this over and over. Love this movie. These two are definitely legends in the game 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The 1st time I saw this was pre internet In the TV guide the name looked to me like it would be a documentary on transportation
They cut it before John Candy looked at the car and said, "Oh yeah, this'll buff out.... no problem!". LOL
The first time I saw this scene I laughed for around 15 minutes.
I just watched this movie for the first time in a few years. I watched it tonight which it Thanksgiving. Which I thought was fitting because the ending has Thanksgiving just watched it with my family after dinner.
This is my favorite scene when he said "Some Joker want to race."
I also love when they yelled "Your going the wrong way."
This scene made me and my dad die laughing. We watch it every Thanksgiving
I cried laughing at this scene.
Always makes me laugh how looking at the snow makes him realize they're going the wrong way lol
He’s looking at a snow covered median *
@@1stwonder788 too bad they don't hold on the shot long enough to see a median, just snow😂😂😂
I think it had to do with the direction of the snow.
He realized that it’s the median
@@Spanner249 Yeah, and that's when it hits him that the median is between him and the couple warning them because they're the ones on the right side of the highway
An absolute classic
Your going the wrong way! How does he know where we’re going? Classic 😂
I could watch this 100 times and laugh every single time.
One of the funniest movies ever made
1:50 Steve Martin channeling Lou Costello there. XD
“That was close!”
This was pure gold
Just watched this 2 days ago for the first time ever. I've never laughed so hard in all my life! ABSOLUTELY buying a copy (just need to clean up the rental car scene). John Hughes was a comedic genius. His humanity is sorely missed today.
Not just for Thanksgiving, I watch it every day!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The greatest scene of all time! 😂😂😂
Brilliant movie and brilliant scene. Neil when he realises what is happening and having a panic attack lol 😂😂😂
Can anyone not hear Do The Mess Around and not think of this scene???
Just watched this scene back with my 9 year old daughter and she and I were in absolute stitches😁🤣😅😂❤🧡💛💗💙💚💜🤍🤎🖤
My all time favourite John Candy film
“oh he’s drunk. how would he know what way we’re going?”
“yeah how would he know?”🤣🤣🤣
I love how he takes a second to think it over and then decides it makes perfect sense. “Yeah, how would he know?”
You don't get comedy like this anymore XD
Watched this movie on VHS as an eight year old and thought it was planes trains and Okie O
i NOW get that scene with stewey in family guy
I used to watch this movie with my sister Nerolie but she psssed away in 2008 very sad we had some good times together this was our favourite movie to watch together planes trains andautomobiles
When I was a kid, this scene scared the crap out of me.
Growing up in the UK watching this I was always like '...no theyre not 😕.'
!!YOUR GOING THE WRONG WAY!
Yeah how do they know where we are going 😂 😂
1:38 I think this is when Neal realizes they ARE heading in the wrong direction.
That they’re on the wrong side of the highway, yes.
The greatest gotcha laugh.
I did this once with a friend in the car. Unfamiliar area, late at night, pitch black. It was one of those really wide roads with a grass median, I turned on to it the wrong way. Luckily, we figured it out before any other cars came. He made this reference to me over and over, of course yes, I had seen the movie. I usually drive way too fast for his tastes and he always thinks I'll kill us.
Classic scene from a fantastic movie
This has been funny every time of the 1000+ times I’ve seen it!!!
Best Thanksgiving movie ever. One of my all time favorite Thanksgiving movie with Steve Martin and John Candy for a very funny flick. The "You're going the wrong way!" is definitely my favorite scene in that film. Also, I would recommend The River Wild with Meryl Streep, Kevin Bacon, and David Strathairn if you can upload it, along with Timecop with Jean-Claude Van Damme, Gran Torino with Clint Eastwood, L.A. Story with Steve Martin, David Cronenberg's Scanners, Trespass with Bill Paxton, William Sadler, Ice-T, and Ice Cube, and those two Jada Pinkett Smith films (like Menace II Society and Set It Off for instance).

It’s been 10 years since I watched this, I had forgotten it was a holiday film. Happy thanksgiving everyone ❤
Favorite scene in the movie
I love the lorry/truck scene in this film.
i look forward to that part coming when ever
i watch this... you can't beat the old movies.
1:29 Seeing John Candy making the booze & drunk gesture cracks me everytime 😆 🤣 😂
The devil scene is hilarious
I'm English so i normally watch this at Christmas haha
I’m American, but that’s what i ended up doing.
@@capncake8837 haha
Wouldn't the English version of Thanksgiving be September 27, since that's the date in 1066 William the C began colonizing England?
@@davidjamessheets 🤷
Not really. We've got Bonfire Night - November 5th. Or, as the rhyme goes,
Remember, remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason
Why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.
The fingernails 😂
I could watch this scene a thousand times and the part with Candy as the devil will always make me laugh
This clip killed me. Pure therapy....😂
I love how at the beginning of the clip the 2 trucks are blaring their horns even though at the time there's nohing in the way.
You love that do you?
One of my all time favourite movie scenes! 🤣
The music is great for this scene!
Best scene of the movie
Still cracks me up that scene.
"Youre going to kill somebody" coming from the guy not wearing a seatbelt lol
Skulls with hair, and a devil suit.
I bet the prop master was figuring: What the...f..?
Still funny in 2024❤❤❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
One of my favorite things I like to say sometimes is "You're going the wrong way!"
My favorite part
Hadn't seen this for a while... absolutely laughing my head off!
One of my parents favorite scenes!
I don’t watch comedies anymore because to be honest they aren’t funny like they used to be. But gems like this and others from the 80s and 90s that still have me rolling 😂
Spectacular movie making!
