How to make a quick and easy DIY Reindeer Crate out of wood

- I saw a small reindeer shaped planter box on the web and decided to make my own, larger version to give out as a Christmas Present. It is made from a single 6ft 1 x 10 and 2 - 8ft 1x2's. This project can easily be completed in a weekend.

Great project using very basic tools, nicely done ! I've just recently picked up a few wood working tools and looking for projects like this. So far I've got a circular saw, jigsaw, and a router, Keep'em coming.

Thanks. I made it big to be able to use pre-cut materials and to limit the number of tools needed. I am working on designing a smaller one right now.

What changes would need to be made to make it a planter ? Treated wood & paint would be obvious, anything else ?
Push the slats together and add a third one to fill in the gap.
