The Doors came from their own place. They spoke from a deep, wild place. They were channeling something powerful. I think a lot of people nowadays have a hard time understanding this. Different world now.

The Doors were a sixties psychedelic blues-rock band from Los Angeles that took their name from the title of the 1954 book "The Doors of Perception" by Aldous Huxley (author of "Brave New World") which he wrote about his experiences under the influence of mescaline taken as part of a psychiatric research experiment into psychedelic drugs in 1953. Lead singer Jim Morrison died in Paris in 1971 at the age of 27. "Riders on the Storm" was the last song he recorded for the band. It's also from their LA Woman album. "Light My Fire" was The Doors breakthrough hit in 1967. It went to number-one in the charts. Their debut album ranks high among the greatest debut albums of all time. We used to play that record all the time when I was in college in the late eighties -- some twenty years later! "Break On Through (To the Other Side)", "Soul Kitchen", "Twentieth Century Fox", "Back Door Man" were some of the songs on it, along with their twelve minute epic, "The End".
