20:01 This might sound a bit odd, but that's the best round of (for want of a better term) United Kingdom geography that a team has done for quite a while. Normally, the teams struggle a bit, so well done Ulster!
- It's kinda sad that these two had to go against each other, liked them both. Salter was very fun to watch. He felt like Monkman, if Monkman traded a bit more of his intellect for social skills. - That first picture round is genius. Not only you had to know German vocabulary, but you had to connect it to what is practically a rebus which spells out names of German cities. Brilliant. - Great performance from McQuaid and Jackson, they pulled in a lot of starters, and of course, down the wire it came to be the two of them going practically head to head. I believe Jackson is pissed because they knew it was Amy Schumer. I knew it was her after hearing "The Girl With The Lower Back Tattoo", not that I like her comedy. But Jackson has nothing to be ashamed of, the comeback was because of their performance. I'm pretty sure we will get the same civilized discussion about their performance in the comments below. - Jack still has that adorable little lean after answering a starter, but now he maintains it when talking to his teammates on bonuses.
Great match! I felt sorry for Jackson, he/she seemed to be keen, it's perfectly ok to have emotions. Much credit to the Ulster captain who applauded the defeated.
Speaking Standard English, Mr Paxman usually pronounces foreign words with their Standard English pronunciation, Hence his pronunciation of the name is correct according to Standard English. Another example is the German name Rothschild, which is in Standard English pronounced roths (as wrath+s)-child (as a young human being).
Loved both teams, but I have a soft spot for the older ones. Still, they need a hard science person (as did the losing team.) I don't have a lot of hope for the finals.
S47E20: is the WMG that blocked this episode the Warner Music Group which has no copyright interest is University Challenge, or WMG the Warwick University Manufacturing Group which has no copyright interest other than Warwick Uni is appearing in this episode? How can we maintain the continuity of the contest when an episode has been removed for spurious reasons.
@Karen Watch S47E15 at 15:30 again. Were u surprised? I wasn't. I just laughed out loud that none of the 'sprightly average age 50s' got it but the 'less than half of that' 'average age 22' got it ... a 1962 song sent once again to the top of the charts by Mike Myers in 1997, when Jamieson was two. Good quizzers aren't limited by their age. I'm happy to say I can identify most songs from their 1st few opening bars be they from the 50s or the 2010s and evth in between :)

Have you people ever competed at anything? Ridiculing Jackson's behavior in the last minute and a half aren't remotely close to how I thought it would be when I read the comments. I would be bummed too if I had a chance at getting the big lead with Amy Schumer and not taking the opportunity. Give them all a break...
People on University Challenge usually take their loss in stride, either applauding the other side which appears to be a very rare occurrence or looking on with vague disappointment. Jackson does neither.
Everyone tries hard to win on University Challenge. Losers simply take it with stride, except perhaps Bezer from 2015 when Imperial lost for the first time against Liverpool. At the gong, if you look at him, he slouches with his arms folded. Is there anything you'd like to add about Jackson?
I'm standing behind my words, taking it too hard against Jackson. Props to everyone who takes losses easy, I would too, but can't ridicule someone who doesn't take it the same way.
Ok, seriously, stats. 19 answered Qs, Warwick 9+13/27 successfully converted bonuses 48%, Ulster 10x10+14/30 or 47%, pretty close. All of Jackson's 5 starters, Juno, Ming, (British) Guyana, Tutankhamen & Rosa, which I, and any decent quizzard got, plus the other easy peasy starters aimed at Jackson's quick buzzer finger, cept Ulster got them, like Churchill, assassin (got this Q since I was a teen!), Plimsoll, Amnesty,, REM & Amy Schumer. Ritchie is the coolest female contestant EVER!
Anointed: greased with easy questions for the quick buzzer finger, already sufficiently slippery Antsy: those critters in Paxo's pants that suddenly make him go 'C'mon' and 'Let's have it' several times to Ulster in order to give more time to the 'chosen' team, Warwick, to catch up and win!
EXCITING 140-140 I did like Jackson but was not a fan of their team captain, Salter? arghhh for me he acted like he couldn't care less or wasn't taking it seriously. Then? Maybe? Go? Away? I mean maybe that's just how he is but whatever.
I have no idea which episode y'all watched but there was nothing weird or inappropriate about Jackson's behaviour, she was simply frustrated (and mildly so!) because she knew they nearly won.
Glad to see the back of Salter. Did no-one see those oh-so-irritating fringe flicks at 550, 1050, 1510 etc.? I don't usually make personal comments about contestants but that's what drives ratings ... likeability ... Salter seriously lacks that ... even prefer a very chubby hair-challenged Jonah Hill to him ... a Captain should make SOME effort with his appearance ...
That comment above wasn't mine... my friend Champagne took over my phone when I wasn't looking ... but then she knew what I was thinking but was too polite to comment here. Don't want to see anyone go per se but would like Ulster to be given a fair chance at winning this. Thanks Father Christmas!
I don't care what he looks like but boy was he annoying! Aside from a few lightning quick correct answers, he gave the impression that being on UC was beneath him. And all that talking aloud...I'd hate to sit within a few yards of him on a plane or in a restaurant.
Karen T-S Would he be a bit like Tristan Burke from 2012 according to this digital spy thread? forums.digitalspy.com/discussion/1637606/the-most-obnoxious-university-challenge-contestant-ever
Another way in which it's a disadvantage to be older is that the youngsters have much more recently studied a wide variety of subjects. Many are the times on UC when a humanities student guesses a science question correctly because they vaguely remember something about it from high school. The older you get, the harder it is to recall things that aren't your field of interest. Kudos to Ulster. (I'm neither young nor old).
Well done, Ulster! My favourite team in this season.
Great match! Well played all around!
I'm young and I love the Ulster team! They're incredible
Haha, thanks! See you next week...
What a match! Thanks for uploading.

Ramboost007
He would be a bit like Monkman if Monkman lived in Somerset or wherever Salter's from.
the picture round was mental. I'm Austrian and have decent knowledge of german geography but couldn't get the first two either.
I realize I'm kinda randomly asking but do anybody know a good website to watch newly released movies online?
@Royal Ronan I watch on Flixportal. You can find it by googling :)
@Brody Cade Thanks, signed up and it seems like a nice service :) I appreciate it !
Whoa, got exciting at the end there! Glad to see Ulster w Yul Brunner through, sad to see Warwick go.
Milliken at 7:50 was impressive with a tough question: 'Berlin', smiles, removes glasses confidently. Yul Brynner would have been proud! :)
Great episode, thanks!
It's a pity Warwick didn't win this match, I would have loved Warwick to have won. Simply for Eddie Booth's reaction.
ITubaUTuba
I agree. And like I said before, Jackson and Rudd were mere tokens of Warwick.
Great match! I felt sorry for Jackson, he/she seemed to be keen, it's perfectly ok to have emotions. Much credit to the Ulster captain who applauded the defeated.
Uncle Roger
Many University Challenge contestants would beg to differ on having emotions because there are many who don't applaud.
He's a Rugby player, and it's the gentlemanly thing to do.
And isn't deliquescence just the loveliest word to say?
Great contest
All in on the Ulster-bandwaggon. My favourites this season!
I'm surprised Mr. Paxman couldn't pronounce "Zarathustra" correctly.
Easy peasy :)
What time in the video does he say it?

Got all three stars Vega, Deneb & Betelgeuse, had a drink with them just last night ... always great to get answers teams don't :)
Got Vega, said Sirio instead of Deneb (was tempted by Fomalhaut) and can't believe I missed Antares for Aldebaran : (
Not so great when the question's more trivial and the answer simply shows how old you are. Not you, but me (re. Katharine Graham).

Damn, that was well fought!
What a game, got very tense towards the end! And all along it was Amy Schumer...

5:12 "Juno?"
"Yes, I know -- but I'm asking YOU."
I only got the phosphorus one correct
Jackson needs to learn to be a bit more sportspersonlike.
They've got a permanent break :))
People on University Challenge usually take their loss in stride, either applauding the other side which appears to be a very rare occurrence or looking on with vague disappointment. Jackson does neither.

Of course Ritchie is the coolest female contestant this year. She is Irish, after all.
Ehhhhhhhh the quark question is a little shittily worded - three colors x 6 flavors yes, but they left a door open for chirality/isospin...
ITubaUTuba muhahahaha
Fear of belly-button😂
3:28 "Asterix" hahahahahaha!!!
23:59 I think that should have been an acceptable answer.
Great upset by Ulster, clearly NOT anointed to win ... love how antsy Paxo gets ... more details later :)
What do any of those words (anointed and antsy) mean?
Anointed: greased with easy questions for the quick buzzer finger, already sufficiently slippery
Antsy: those critters in Paxo's pants that suddenly make him go 'C'mon' and 'Let's have it' several times to Ulster in order to give more time to the 'chosen' team, Warwick, to catch up and win!
They've blocked E 20 psimanjuntak ..😢😢
Sean Olaoire try again see if it works now
psimanjuntak blocked by Warner Music Group... dash it to heck !! I look forward to your upload every monday 😧
EXCITING 140-140

He was however a change from most UC contestants because some (like Oxbridge) go on and take it very seriously.
I have no idea which episode y'all watched but there was nothing weird or inappropriate about Jackson's behaviour, she was simply frustrated (and mildly so!) because she knew they nearly won.

Having researched on youtube, I'd say that there's a distinct similarity! Incidentally, thanks for introducing me to the digital.spy site.
Jackson clearly sulking. Haha
Oh diddums Jackson, did you not get what you wanted? Hahahahahaha. Well done Ulster!
Polly Tripp
*insert Joker laugh here*
I'm an older person myself & have not enjoyed the elderly Ulster team. This competition is for young students. Thanks Psi.
Being elderly? The opposite is true. A lot of the questions require quick thinking, and this declines for a given person over time.
Surely the Ulster team aren't *that* old?
@Marty Remove your blinkers. No limits.
Update: Ulster WON! Relax and enjoy their next round :)
