  • The Mora 162 hook knife gets such a bad rap!!!! But I am so thankful that I didn't listen to what everyone said.
There will always be people who want to say that the gourmet, expensive knifes are the only way to go. I have a svante hook, which is definitely nicer than the 162, but I still find myself using hte 162 for removing lots of wood, or taking into the woods where I don't want to risk bringing a nicer knife. The knife is also more versatile than most knife because it is double sided, which ironically is something that most people complain about!

I have had a 162 for many years and love to work with it using both left and right hands as the project dictates.

I just bought a 162S,, it’ll be my first hook knife. Your review makes me think I made the right choice.

If I had to buy only one hook knife it would be the 162! It’s a slightly steeper learning curve, but when you master using it, it is so versatile!

My knife arrived today mate. I was watching your review again and noticed the grain in your table. Is that flower natural grain in the Center of your table? It looks very cool.
I’ll be trying out my knife in the next week or so.

i`m ambidextrous, leaning on the left hand... so the double edged hook knives are a godsend for me, i ca use them in both hands and carve from multiple angles. to this day, my only hook knives are the 162 and 163 both double sided.

Sounds perfect! Plus with double the blade you potentially half to sharpen half as often! (Albeit maybe twice as long when you do, lol)

Hey Tony! I know many people hate (and I mean HATE) the mora 162, but I really love it! And I think the double sided blade can actually be a huge benefit if you know how to use it. If I had to pick one single cheep hook knife to have, it would be this one.

@@BradAllenWoodworkingCo I'm left handed but fairly ambedextrous so hopefully the double sided blade will be a bonus for me!

@@tonyanddeb1012 Definitely seems like it would work great for you! I think this knife is great for anyone who can put in the time to learn it- I am no master at using this knife, but I love it and think it is super versatile!
