Footwell Illumination Install - 2022 WRX

- I install interior led strips under the dash of almost every car I own. I just hate how dark it is in the cabin when driving at night. I didn't want to spend upwards of $150 on the OEM Footwell Illumination Kit, and the OEM kit also doesn't light up the rear seat area. I decided to make my own "kit". I purchased these LED strips at Walmart for under $50 and they worked perfectly. In todays video I'll show you what I did to install them and hide the wires and strips.

Looks great! I need to add that to my bucket list for my VA.
The one thing I did that increased the difficulty was buy aluminum bar stock and cut to fit the brackets under the drivers and passenger seat. It gives a good flat place to mount, you can angle it for the best lighting, and it isn't blocked by the rear passengers' legs. Everything else was basically exactly the same as this video. It was one of the first things I did when I got my VA. I did however choose to get some amazon ones that are controlled by a bluetooth app and have all colors/patterns/programmable/etc.
This actually looks pretty good. I might have to take a ride to Walmart to see if they have any of those lights.
Hey buddy i liked that smith and Wesson sitting in your arm rest this is why I love Pennsylvania!!!
Looks good 👍
Instead of the glue I would of bonded the led straps onto some velcro to make it stick to the carpret. But other then that awesome job. Not a fan of cutting into factory harnesses. And this works out.
I'm 99% sure that OEM connector that's inside the center that isn't plugged into anything is for the optional CD player! 5:10
Sort of like rocket science but not really lol. Good job man. Definitely a more cost effective way to have brighter lighting. Front and rear.
You think that wire might be for the future DCCD ?
Is the center console bigger on the VB? Jelly that you can fit your freedom dispenser in there 🤣
Not sure that it's any bigger. It might be the same size honestly 😅
Almost as egregious as the $108 LED dome lights the OEM offers!
What is that plug under the cup holder for I don’t have that
how do you like the new wrx vs the old, and have you thought about STI drivetrain :) ?
Honestly it's a close call. I like them both a lot. I'm thinking about making a video on my thoughts comparing the two. But I have definitely considered the sti drivetrain. Basically, if the transmission explodes I'll probably do it but I probably won't do it until that happens lol
Nice! Gonna add this to the list! You have a horn video coming?
Awesome! And not too sure. Getting this car really stretched my budget thin so it's really hard to do anything with how expensive parts are for these things.
Really with the power button was able to be twisted so you can dim the lights. I'd consider it then lol
I agree that would be really nice. The lights aren't aggressively bright but having control or wiring into a dimmer switch would be great!
@@StreetInspired1 hmm maybe wiring a dimmer in there is the way to sway me. I'd have to find a dimmer that looks good and can be tucked in there attached, don't really want it dangling. Love your work by the way!
Some of the light strips are controlled via an app to change colors etc. Possibly have the ability to dim from the app. I have seen others mention govee as a brand they have used
Can it be wired so that they only turn on when headlights are on?
For sure. You can always get an add-a-fuze and wire them into the headlight fuse or the wiring for the parking lights. Shouldn't be too hard just finding the correct wire.
Do you happen to have a link for those lights?
I actually got them at my local Walmart in the auto accessories area
@@StreetInspired1 thanks man keep up the good content
I was told the oem lights were causing shortages when I tried to purchase it when I first ordered my 2022 wrx. Anyone hear anything about that?
what oem lights?
Geez all that for led lights i commend you
we came a long way from our days of twisting spliced wires together and just electrical taping them bitches 🤣
Lmao twisting and heat shrinking isn't too much better but I'm too lazy to buy connectors 😂
