  • What is the impact of donating egg or sperm on the family lives of donors and their family? www.manchester.ac.uk/egg-and-s.... Using our research, we show how donors think about the connections created between their family and the family of the children born using their egg or sperm.
And what do donors' partners, parents and brothers and sisters think about these connections? We use examples from our data to show how the impact of donation on family members.
This video is based on research from the 'Curious Connections' project from the Morgan Centre at the University of Manchester. The research was funded by the ESRC.
See our web page for lots more resources and information for donors, families, counsellors and anybody with an interest in donor conception.

Thank you for this video/research. You have touched on many important points which were not discussed or considered at the time of donation, which now leave many donors with no direction and mixed feelings about what the next stage of their lives looks like to which their life's circumstances would have changed. Openness with loved ones and family integration is also a huge topic that needs to be spoken about more.
    Thanks for this

I regret donating. Please understand that only a few people under very specific circumstances could see donation as an option. Dont be altruistic, or let yourself be forced by the emotions and wishes of the woman. Dont calculate yourself away, the impact is gigantic and you cant restore, its permanent.
Important lesson, if you have a negative future perspective, fear, low self esteem dont do anything like donating sperm. Emotions and situations are often temporal, but donating sperm is not. You create a problem which you never thought about. It can mess up your future relations to begin with. Also your worries or band with the donor child. Their life quality is also at stake. The wish of the mother is first of all an egoistic, individual choice. They dont care about the risk of the sperm donor or potential risks of the donor child. Also you can disappoint your own family. So dont think twice think hundred times. Before you donate, discuss this with your family and friends first, if you are afraid to do so than thats a clear sign why you shouldnt donate. Please it seems like an easy task, to help create a new life. But you do that by sacrificing your own life. If u donate (like one of the 100.000 men), then only when you have a good feeling about the woman..like you could have a relationship with her.
So even with some little doubts, dont do it. And of you are in a certain process already you can stop or abort the donation at any moment even if you already donated in the pot. Take it with you and leave. Dont deceive yourself or put yourself under pressure because of the woman. Just dont do it.

I wish I had donated more for a longer time. 1 year wasn`t enough. I would eagerly donate until I die, but unfortunately, I`m older than 40 and thus disqualified. Do donate, everyone. Let humanity thrive and multiply!

While I wouldn’t change that I’ve donated sperm and fathered several children in the process.
I definitely wouldn’t recommend donating sperm, unless you get to play a “cool uncle role” starting from birth.
The egg donors I know have really have cancer rates. It’s anecdotally worse than say painting a metric fuck ton of cars without a good respirator (I have a maintenance background).
