    How do I balance the 3 parallel 18650 cells in series in a typical laptop battery pack?
    My cells are 4.18, 4.06, 4.03V. You can see the problem with the 4.18, it makes the series reach 12.55 faster and laptop stops charging before the other 2 are full.
    Thanks.

    I have a question. If let's say I have 15 cells the same capacity and internal resistance but a bit different voltage let's say voltage difference not greater than 0.03v. That means cells are not charged equally. So here's a question. If I'm connecting all 15 cells together by using battery holders or other all positive together , all negative together and leave them for like a day . Cells suppose balance themselves . Than disconnect them and you can make any battery pack you want . All cells will be balanced up to 1mAh. Am I correct ? 18650 connected in parallel will balance themselves. But be careful do not connect cells with great voltage difference ( they will heat up and might catch fire or explode.

    Isn't there some cheap 18650 charging circuit / chip off ebay that you could connect to every single battery?
    So I would wire a ton of some cheap battery charging circuit into the battery pack, and it automatically detects if it should charge or discharge the battery. To basically have a per-cell perfect battery charging system. Is this possible?
    PS: Maybe with something like the TP4056 chip?

    Which best method ist, to Balance this?
    Lowest Voltage for LTO is 1,5Volt, highest is 2,7Volt.

    So it's best to bottom balance the batteries. Awesome video, thanks so much for the helpful information. (+1 : 256)

      @dylan-nguyen Před 3 lety

      Safer to tip balance especially for home use. Will prevent fires and explosions.
      Plus home use solar batteries are usually at full capacity since they spend the day being charged.
      Bottom balance can help squeeze a bit more juice out. But overcharge is far more dangerous. Which is why most home use, use top balance.
      Over discharge the cell just quietly dies. Overcharge and it goes kaboom..

    I got 95 lithium ion batteries of 3.7v each for my inverter. What device or where can I buy device to bottom balance the cells.
    This is how I arranged the cells.
    I connected 19 cells in series and made five stack of them. Then connected five of the 19 cells in series in parallel. Each 19 cells in series is 70.3 volts.
    I want my lithium ion batteries to go so many cycles so I will never charge to the 70.3 volts normal capacity.
    I want to charge it to maximum of 64 volts . For this reason, I think I shoukd not do top balancing rather only bottom balancing.
    Is there any deceive I can buy to bottom balance my 95 cells or how do I bottom balance it?

  • @DenfordBerriman

    Great video. I was not yet aware of top and bottom variations with balancing. My question to Jehu and the community is can all this be avoided if you protect each cell with a protection circuit? Or is this just ruled out once you reach these numbers of cells in an array? Thanks for the great videos Jehu.

  • @wevloc

    What up Jehu,
    I have two batteries I run in series to power my 48v ebike
    30a controller. 1) 7s8p 2) 6s8p, they have balance wires. I charge them daily
    with a DROK to 52v at 1amp, I also have some hobby chargers to (balance charge)
    if necessary.
    My question, do I need to bottom balance these batteries? And
    if so, should I balance them in series or individually?
    Any other information appreciated, and if you need more info
    please let me know.

    I have a question about bottom balancing when constructing a pack. How about bottom discharging each cell to 2.75 volts before building a pack .....then top balancing after the pack is built. As opposed to bottom balancing the pack after it is built ....which as I understand it would bottom balance each set of parallel cells to each other, but not each individual cell to each other. Or would you still need to bottom balance the pack after it is built before top balancing? Seems to me you should not have to do this ...since each cell has already been discharged to 2.75 volts. Your thoughts are appreciated.

    • @jehugarcia
      @jehugarcia  Před 6 lety

      You can either top or bottom balance, not both , Unless you have perfectly matched groups

    • @FretsNirvana
      @FretsNirvana Před 6 lety

      OK ...thanks I believe I understand. I guess that is why I was trying to get a handle on discharging each cell to 2.75 volts, then build the pack and top balance it. Wouldn't this accomplish the same thing?

  • @VinnieVega76
    @VinnieVega76 Před 3 lety

    Question: if I charged every cell I have individually, would that provide the best balancing without having to purchase a hobby charger? Bcms are unreliable and can actually mess up your batteries altogether, so if charged individually, that seems to me common sense?

      I want to expand the lifetime of my prius hv battery pack.. So i experienced that we can get more usable capacity after discharging and charging the battery module one by one.. And also we have to balance it.. So I think its better to do the same for the internal cells of the module.. Am I wrong..?? Do you have any idea about this expanding lifetime stuff..
