  • Ideas on what to do with crystals and minerals we find. Working out what to do with Druzy and Crystal Clusters can be tricky. Some only requires cleaning but others need to be cut and process to turn it into pieces for jewelry making or display specimen.

    Thank you for sharing such interesting information about crystals. I'm new to jewelry making and my inspiration comes from nature itself. Reading about crystals is one thing, but seeing how it's formed and worked is so much more insightful.

    This is a good video, I needed to see if my druzy would stand up to heavy vibrations of extraction and grinding. But I wish I could see more of how you got some of the druzy, because I found a large boulder with a lot of beautiful druzy ( always the biggest that are the most beautiful), and I was wondering how the hell I would get it out of the ground, forest, and into ( or around) my house.

      Grinders specific for gemstones needs a constant water flow so as not to burn the stone. The grits start from 46 to 100,000 and they have different applications depending on the hardness of the stone. Cheers, Liz

    • @harlanmorrisson5147
      @harlanmorrisson5147 Před 5 lety

      @@daddyswitlgirl Brand makes little difference, they all work the same by sending an ultra sonic pulse thru a solution. They come in all sizes, some for false teeth up to tubs large enough to fit a small gas engine. Buy on E-Bay used as new units ARE pricey. I picked up one with a tub big enough to do the wife's Cat for $18.00 American. I use mine for cleaning coins found Metal Detecting, I usually bank over $50.00 in Pennies each year ! Some are so corroded they are not recognizable, 90 seconds later 100 coins are clean as new ! Keep your paws out of the solution when running as the pulse is hard on your joints. Small items can be cleaned by putting them in a plastic tub of solution and running clean water in the main tank, the pulse goes thru the plastic with no problem with no clean up involved, just place lid on the tub and store it.
      Good luck !

      How much do you sale your jewelry for, for example like a little pendant to go on a chain, maybe a beautiful opal and something like the crystal in this video ?

    • @LizKreate
      @LizKreate  Před 10 lety

      *****
      I've never sold any jewelry William as I only make it (for now) for family and friends. If I we're to sell any in the future, a lot of factors has to be considered like the size of the stone/type, material used, time spent making the piece, etc. to determine "Price." Example, say I use an Opal (what type), as price varies with Black Opal, Boulder Opal, Crystal, and so many more different types of Opal. Also the size factors into the price. The bigger, the more higher in value compared to a small one and also the intensity of the color plays a major part in determining how much it's worth. If I were to use a Sapphire, it would be the same as determining the value as Opals, for there are many different colors of Sapphire and also the size and "Cut" of the stone plays a major part in determining value. Cheers, Liz

    So beautiful!
    But for some reason I flinch every time I watch you grind and trim bare handed; you're obviously very talented and capable, but I don't think I could ever go near a grinder without my heavy duty gloves; you're very brave! Lol
    Thanks so much for sharing, again, so beautiful!

      Hi Katie, Cutting and grinding gemstones is quite easy. With supervision, even a 10 year old kid can do it. There are a few safety precautions to keep in mind but overall, it is a relatively safe process and most of the time, all one need is patience....:-) All the very best, Liz

      I've cut and ground stones for years and never cut myself. I only saw one person get cut and she said it was entirely her fault

      I'm using a 4 wheel Lapidary grinder and polisher. The different grits of resin-bond diamond coated wheels are used for grinding and polishing. Thanks for watching. Cheers, Liz

    where do you go to find these? how do you find these? and is it possible to find them in NZ?

    • @LizKreate
      @LizKreate  Před 9 lety +2

      jazzybingable All the gems I show on this video and my other videos, I've found in Australia. Would love to go to New Zealand one day to explore the area as there are a lot of minerals that we don't have here in OZ. I don't know of any specific locations to find gems in NZ but a bit of research on the net can give information of different localities where gems and minerals can be found. I would also contact the different Gems and Lapidary Clubs to get info or maybe in your case, join the club as I'm sure they have organized field trips to different prospecting spots. Good luck and wish you all the very best. Cheers, Liz

      There are many colored geodes all around the world but some countries it's not open to the public. Here in Australia, designated fossicking locations can be found online.

      Research geological maps near you and have a look at areas which are associated with quartz. The fringes of these areas have the best crystals. Cheers, Liz
