Because this person is a nobody and does not capture Dexter's personality at all. Stop judging people's acting based on physical appearances(or creating fan casting based on that), and rather do it based on the emotions they transmit to the audience.

There is actually an animated prequel, but episodes are really short, like 2-3 min
would be kinda hard to pull off considering michael c hall is 51 years old

I just discovered this and I am so grateful! I am most definitely a Dexter Devotee and all I can say is bravo! The writing, narration, and the fact that it seems like I'm looking at a young Michael c Hall who nailed the character, I'm blown away and I'm very grateful this was made! The writing over shadowed the low budget nature of having to make this

It's more original and fun to have a Dexter adaption in the 21st century. This isn't meant to be literal. It's a unique and brilliant idea separate from the show but inspired by its likeness.

I really think you've got a lot of Dexter's mannerisms, and actions down to a tee. Very nice :)
It's not just that the actor looks like Dexter, but he has his mannerisms too. Like when he's eating the apple, he are it the way Dexter would have. BUT! I have to agree that the timeline is all off. If you're taking the time to do this, why not set it in the right decade? Dexter would have been in college in the mid 90s. Why not do that? It would just feel a lot more real. But hey, good job guys, at least your making something that's never been done before and huge props for that.

Ugh that orgasm is recorded like RIGHT in front of the mic. It's overly load and not keeping with the realism of sound. This was good, but that part just bothered me.

I actually like this. It's more of a dexter parody tho. But too many people bitching about some of the flaws it's not to be taken seriously lol . They obviously have no sense of humor.
Its not exactly a sense of humor we lack but the beginning of the show plus the flash backs during the series put a line of what his life was like before we see him. So basically putting a false observation of what he was like before we see him is sorta a bad idea to begin with. The only schooling it shows him having the whole series is high school. You're just following a documentary of what another persons life was like. Might as well be his brother Brian Mosar. Try that idea it might go good.

So this is amazingly well done, and I mean the writing, music usage, EVERYTHING - not just the fact that the lead actor looks like he could be MCH's illegitimate child (though it certainly doesn't hurt).

I think you did a really great job! The tone of voice was in-character, the dialogue was good, and you even managed to find an actor that resembles MCH.
And to the people complaining: It's a fan-made project - they're not looking to be completely canon. Give it a break.

Great job guys. Obviously not big budget Hollywood production quality. But very enjoyable none the less. Loved the intro.
As the guy who co-wrote and played Dexter in this piece I can tell you that we were full aware we were not creating an episode within the realm of the real series. We chose to set this fan-fiction in an alternate universe, one in which Dexter did go to college in 2010, where there are laptops and facebook and other such resources for him to use. We also knew we'd get flack for him killing a "non-killer" but we had planned for Dex to get the same flack from Harry in the next episode. Coming soon?

He really does look like a teenage Dexter. I'm split on how good this is, but as for the actor - the similarities are amazing, certainly compared to the teenage Dexter they used in the series.

Superb! Stays true to Dex's character & the atmosphere of the show! Guy even looks like him! His facial expressions are right on. I enjoyed seeing Masuka as a hound dog (he always is) in his early years. lol

You know, when I clicked on this video I thought the thumbnail picture was an actual scene from Dexter, like unseen footage when he was younger of some sort :D That's how much you look so much like him! and how well this pilot was shot. Wonderful job.
Im watching this in mid 2024 and they annouced a while back that there makimg the prequel series original sins and if this guy was younger today like here he wouldve been perfect for it

Dexter has played his younger self several times, though. There is never one actor who plays all younger versions, a 16 year old isn't gonna look like a 3 year old.... but, a 42 year old can easily pull off an early 20s age.

Facebook wasn't out when dexter was in college.and Red Bull didn't come to the states until like 97. I know it's not supposed to be canon but an effort to make it fit in with the show would have helped me get into this. maybe i would have even watched part two.
In one of the episodes of the first season, near Harry's death, Michael C Hall actually plays a younger Dexter.
Good production, good performance. Nice writing with the smile bit. We can forgive the fact that Dexter met Vince years later on the lab job and that the animated series Dexter: The Early Cuts establish him at college in Florida. Your show didn't have to say he is in San Francisco; Dexter is now mostly shot in California pretending to be Miami.
