I went through the same with my mom when I lived with my folks. My room was near the living room, so there really wasn't a long distance for mom to travel. She would call for me from the living room, and I would answer her back only to get silence. After a few minutes, mom would show up at my door with an angry look and say "Now I know you heard me. Why didn't you answer me when I called for you?!"
She then would have me do some sort of thing (mainly making iced tea dispite the kitchen being right next door to the living room and very easy access for mom), and when I would go in my room, close the door, and mutter under my breath about how lazy mom is... Only for her to suddenly yell "WHAT DID YOU SAY?! GET YOUR ASS IN HERE!!"
