    First, I'm not a jew, I live in sweden and my parents were swedish, I was born into the protestant religious belief and havn't had any reasons to leave my faith, but it's very interesting to listen to different beliefs like judaism and others beliefs aswell, and it is very interesting to hear you Rabbi Friedman speak, I wish that we all, whatever belief we have, that we could come together in peace and understanding, thank you.

    I have high regard for Rabbi Friedman's opinions and teachings (I'm not Jewish), and I was glad to see him taking on the concepts of "good" and "bad" as they relate to our character traits. However, he didn't completely break the mold of his traditional Jewish thinking that still reifies "good" and "bad" (giving these concepts a substance of their own, like the Good and the Bad, as opposed to them being just contextual adjectives, devoid of independent existence). As "wetness" cannot exist independent of water (or any similar fluid) AND a person assessing the feel of this liquid through the sense of touch, in the same way "good" or "bad" cannot exist independent of a person behaving in a certain context. Take the context away and no one (not even God, assuming the biblical depiction of this concept) can say that this or that behaviour is either good or bad. This is not moral relativism, it's just the realization that what is bad in a given context could always be found to be good in a suitable, but different context. I dare anyone to challenge me with any conceivable situation where something really bad cannot be perceived as good in a different context, and I will show them such a context. And now, a little food for thought: if we entertain the biblical idea that we are here to "know the good and evil" (based on the allegory of eating of the forbidden fruit by Adam and Eve), are we not supposed to do just that? Aren't we here to do both good and bad (evil) things to learn from the experience? Can't it be the case that in the end they will be as inconsequential as waking up from a bad dream (where you might have killed someone and felt terribly about it) and realizing that it was "just a dream" and you didn't actually kill anyone, although it seemed soooo darn real in the dream? Can anyone judge and condemn you that you killed someone in your dream? In this context, how is what you have done in your dream good or bad, since you actually harmed nobody real? It could be both: good, because you had a vivid experience and felt terrible about killing someone, so you swear to yourself never to do that again (including in real life), and bad because, as far as you are concerned, you actually found it in yourself (even if it was just in a dream) to kill someone and you could see that you are not exempt from being as bad as a real killer. I know that what I'm asking is unconventional and perhaps hard to swallow by many, but I trust that this channel is viewed by smart people...

    Our only real existential choice is between unconscious compulsive reaction and conscious creative response.
    When I do good, I feel good. When I do bad, I feel bad. That is my religion. Abraham Lincoln.
    Who I am (social self), changes with time, place and circumstance. What I am (essential self), changes with embodiment. Only That I am (core Self) remains eternally constant, and is that from which who and what I am arises, and that to which they return.
    Human = Humane
    The purpose of Life is to experience completion of Joy in form.
    We do not ask but choose to be born. That is why we have freedom of choice, free will.
    Q. Why is there something rather than nothing?
    A. Why not?
    Namaste'.

    Hi, I just wanted to say that I was raised Christian. I’ve churched hopped all over in a number of nomination and denominational. It never felt right for me. I had lots of questions about the parts of the Bible that no one could answer or did answer but in a roundabout way you couldn’t understand. I felt so disconnected from my God he was no longer real to me. Lost? Is not strong enough word to describe what I felt. It sounds silly but I tried being an atheist but that lasted for like an hour. I felt like a strong stabbing pain in my hart like you would if you were a child that lost your parents or the other way around. I begged for answers. I cried so many nights over my lack of understand because I was convinced I would never find Reasonable answer to them. That when I found a team on CZcams one Jew and one Christian their videos on the Bible. When I would listen to the Jewish guy. He talked about he’s rabbi. 🤣 I didn’t know what a rabbi was I had to Google it. I looked around CZcams and found you. I was I was standoffish at first. But I gained more answer from one 30 minute video of yours than I ever did from a life time of church. It’s been great I finally found my God. I know that sounds so dumb 😥. Your videos mean a lot to me and thank you for all your posts.

    I have two questions on this if I may.
    1) is it fair to say the the human soul is what today people call ego? It seems like your description of it matches the description of ego.
    2) why does it have to be two souls? Could this argument not work with one soul that is struggling between human and godly goals as opposed to between good and bad?

      I am a convert, the only way to find that answer is to start the process with a local orthodox rabbi. The fact that you are searching for truth is a good start but the actual conversation process changes something inside of you that you didn’t know existed but somehow knew it was always there.

    Lol... Very cool guy but really rambled and circled over the same concept about 100 times .... This video literally could have been about 2 minutes long at most .. I like the theology about having two souls.... Cuz the human soul does not feel entirely evil or bad...it just feels human.... But I think we are supposed to take this soul and elevate it to a holy level ...that's our part in things...like he described with the secular world...God made the secular world but we're supposed to elevate it and use it to glorify him...
    We're supposed to elevate our souls to glorify God... We're supposed to elevate our bodies, minds and lives to glorify God.... And not just take what God gave us and not elevate it ... We shouldn't leave what God gave us "as is"
