The Timberwolves don’t even look competitive after making a gigantic trade for Rudy Gobert. It’s not surprising because that franchise has been a mess for years but this is a look at why they can’t succeed with any young star and if Anthony Edwards’ career will suffer. - Sport
I dunno what they were thinking with Rudy 😂 every casual fan could of told you how bad that was lol
lol facts
Fr
Bad franchises make bad decisions.
New owners wanted to feel like they were gonna win big this year and probably just looked up basketball reference and thought “he’s good at defense! Go get him Connelley.”
I have no idea wtf they were thinking. Could've gotten Kevin fukin Durant for the price they paid for gobert
Imagine if the jazz send all of minnesotas picks back to them for Anthony edwards 😂
That would be funny as hell

The Rudy trade is a NBA 2K plug and play trade. Seriously if you add Rudy to last year's roster in 2K the Wolves get real good immediately in simulation and it looks like that was the research the Wolves did to validate getting Rudy and unsurprisingly that's the only place that trade works out in a good way.
If McDaniels was playing they’d be much better . Hope they trade up for Anthony black
Because 2k is simulating it as if the players are all playing their best basketball. When you get a DPOY who isn’t doing what he does best none of that simulation nonsense matters
I swear, Tim Conelly is a double agent... Or even triple agent... He did favors to Jazz and Nuggets with that Gobert trade...😂
My thoughts as well!
😂😂😂
Quad agent? He gave kuminga and wiggins for dlo 💀

@@dylanroth4833 The Paul trade got shut down by the nba cause the nba owned the hornets back then.

This is why bad teams shouldn’t be rewarded with higher draft picks. It just creates teams that are chronically mismanaged where good prospects go to die
Too bad there's no relegation status in NBA, EPL has it and nobody wants to tank or they get relegated to a lower league.
@@Ketaruz agreed, nba is not a "league", it us an association. Tanking has been killing this sport.

@@Sanderus watching those games is a different topic. Teams tank to get better later on.
Love your vids keep it up ❤
Interesting video, and it's not just bad drafting and bad trades that causes Minnesota problems with winning, it's also the fact Minneapolis isn't a desirable free agent destination for star players in the off-season, especially with their brutal winters.
Edwards is one of the only stars under 21 who's been to the playoffs 2 years in a row. He has vets ilke Mike Conley and Kyle Anderson etc. to guide him and excellent young players like Jaden McDaniels, Naz Reid, Nickeil Alexander Walker and Josh Minott to grow with him. The trade was an overpay but the floor of this team is raised to get Ant to the postseason every year. Ex: even though they had significant injuries, they made it to the playoffs this year. Ant will likely have 7 years of straight playoff experience before he even enters his prime. Not many young stars get that. Doesn't sound like hte team is ruining Ant because they are doing the opposite of prior Wolves rosters - they are trying to win. KAT, Wiggins etc. were surrounded by losing and turnover. This is different. Many young stars are on tanking or rebuilding teams whereas Ant has vets to guide him and consistent playoff experience. That sounds pretty good to me.
THANK YOU!! The Cavs paid the same for Dmitch and got just as far as the wolves. Mavs sent out a shit ton of picks to MISS the playoffs. People dislike Rudy so people think his teams aren’t good. If Rudy a generational talent, no. But the current market says if you want an All-NBA caliber player you’re gonna need 3-5 1st rounders ready(KD, Kawhi, Dame, Dmitch, Rudy, Kyrie) list goes on and on
I'm a Wolves fan. It hurts so much. I'm only still supporting this team because of Ant.

I’m from Minnesota and I instantly fucking knew this was about us. I HATE OUR FRONT OFFICE AND MANAGEMENT
Past management has been awful, yes. But I think the important thing to consider is who hired them?... Owner Glen Taylor. Every dark spot in team history has had Taylors signature on it. Connelly was brought in by ARod and Lore. This December is when Taylor hands over the majority interest. Gobert will bounce back next season and finch should get fired after the playoffs.... I expect Towns to be traded right after the draft when he's eligible per the supermax rules of can't be traded for a year after signing the supermax.
Gonna be a banger 🔥🔥🔥
Ey thank the algorithm for bringing me here. Great takes and good delivery. That's a sub
Gobert has played 2 full seasons, last year's playoffs, the Euro tournament AND this season... With NO time off. Then factor in that Chris Finch is not a defensive minded coach and Rudy has had to learn a new system. He will be a force again next season. Finch will get fired and Towns gets traded before next season.
I’d be shocked if the plan wasn’t always to trade KAT. Wolves have a nearly identical record as last season despite losing all those role players and missing KAT for a majority of the season, but we don’t attribute that at all to the new players and new roles for young players?
Living in MN, the Wolves make me so sad consistently

This is one of your best videos yet. I can’t imagine a more well put together clearly communicated video. You just summed up my thoughts perfectly. Even the KAT part. The way you communicated everything really pin’s down the failures of this team, and your comments on KAT specifically were again perfect.
As for the team, I just don’t understand the disconnect between what everyone now sees and decisions at the executive level.

They had such a nice team last year, sure, rebounding and rim protection wasnt great but they looked like the better (yet dumber) team in the Memphis series. I think the main problem is that new GMs dont want to fine tune but want to make big changes, which is a big risk. Lets also not forget that the other two "allin" trades also havent really worked yet, Cleveland is already eliminated and Atlanta hasnt been much better than Minnesota
Rudy on the Warriors would be scary
Bro needs to change his name to PM Hoops
Depends on where you watching from
I fundamentally believe it's sports management culture within the Minnesota state as a whole. It's why the Vikings, twins, and wolves can't catch a break ever. Granted the Wild and Lynx do good, so maybe they need cross sports collaboration with the leaders of those entities for feedback
The Wild do good???? 8 straight first round playoff exits dude. Honestly the Vikings are the best run Minnesota organization, but even then the Twins are the only team who have ever won anything. So I'm interested how you're grading this
"If Gobert isnt an all world defender what is he?" A walking double double lob threat that leads the league in fg% every year that allows perimeter defenders to take bigger risks on plays because they know he can help at the rim
He's barely a lob threat because he has a shit load of trouble catching a basketball and in today's game rim protection is all well and good but if you can't switch out and SOMEWHAT stay with a guard in a pick and roll situation then all the offense is going to do is put you in a pick and roll, pull you out to the 3 point line, iso and attack. All of a sudden your rim protector is worthless. As we are constantly reminded every single year in the playoffs with Rudy Gobert.
What is he? A pick and roll liability, that gets exposed by stretch bigs, and doesn’t have 2 offensive moves that he can go to when needed. U are seeing it in this series
@@kmao508 gobert just had 18-10-3 last game shooting 70% in game 2 he had 19-8-4 shooting 64% and 84% from the line. So if youre not gonna watch the games that's fine but atleast google the box score before you comment saying he cant do anything on offense. Not to mention we have Kat Ant and usually Mcdaniels as scoring options ahead of him but hey I guess 18-10 as a 3rd or fourth option on league high fg% means nothing to a casual and that's cool i guess lol
@@MNPhantom lol. He still doesn’t have 2 offensive moves that he can go to… my point still stands. Can it be a coincidence that Wolves GM Tim Connelly and Bulls GM Arturas Karnisovas both ruined their new teams in 1-2 years and both came from the Nuggets organization? That front office lucked out drafting Jokic omg
It really is the wolves 🐺 Minnesota fans, natives, and those that have lived in MN know this already about all our teams 😅
Yes, it's easy to believe Jordan didn't win until age 28.
He had to wait until the Celtics and Pistons got old and needed a few seasons for Pippen and Grant to grow into All Star and all NBA defensive caliber players.
I thought the Gobert trade was good - adding in defense, rim/shot-blocking, and rebounding - if they capped it at 4 picks. Horrible fit. I was way wrong. Lol!
facts and what makes it worse is kessler would have been such a better fit. but i didnt mind our chances for this year had mcdaniels not hurt himself....ugh being a wolves fan is frustrating
The only real horrible fit has been KAT. I just don’t know how you build a defense around him. Trade him and this team will get even better.
Anthony Edwards dropped 36 in his playoffs debut last year
It doesn't matter. Minnesota just doesn't care about basketball. The most popular teams in the state are the Vikings, the Twins, the Gophers (college football), the Wild (hockey), and then the Timberwolves. Now you can argue as to whether that's a chicken or egg problem, but it just doesn't matter. NBA caliber talent is not going to want to stay in Minnesota when they can make a move for a major urban market, like Chicago, Miami, New York, Boston, Los Angeles, need I go on?
The Vikings last championship was in 1969.
Baseball is the fastest declining sport in national popularity.
You're totally right though, it absolutely does not matter what happens in Minnesota.
@@mitchtherevolution The Vikings have *never* won the Super Bowl or a NFL Championship. That doesn't matter, however, what matters is whether your team is competitive. The Vikings are 7th out of 32 teams in terms of overall win percentage, and have made the playoffs 5 of the last 10 seasons.

This is by far the best even analysis of the wolves situation. Moving KAT, embracing the defense and building around ANT is the key.
Ok, the 2010 draft bit is really in hindsight, no one though that Hayward/George would end up becoming that good or worth of a number 4 pick. At the time the only real answers based on upside were either trading up for Favors/Turner or picking Cousins cause of upside.
The rest? Aside from trading KAT replace Finch with a coach that can actually draw some plays in the 4th quarter.
This has to be another Monta Ellis type of situation, we have to part with our start to move on to a better project

So facts:
1. Kevin Garnet (KG) leaves, he wins a championship.
2. They trade Kevin Love for Andrew Wiggins, Kevin Love wins a championship.
3. They trade Andrew Wiggins, and he goes on to win a championship.
Conclusion: To superstar and star talent on the Timberwolves - 'Things can get better, but they might have to get better somewhere else.' I'm not saying you should leave but if opportunities and situations align in ways that you lead to your depature from the Timberwolves, history has shown you'll likely be better off. While Jimmy Butler hasn't one a championship, yet, he has lead a team to NBA finals, and appears to be doing all he can in his quest to be champion in the NBA.
We need the front office of the Lynx
I wouldn't put Ant in the same category as KG just yet. Edwards has had his own difficulties adjusting to the pro game and he's not much of a leader. I know a lot of that has to do with T-Wolves front office and roster building but not all of it can be blamed on them.
Andrew Wiggins was not a star by any stretch of the means. You should've mentioned Kevin Love instead.
Sadly true
looking back at the trade, it was not good, but that doesn't mean he isn't a good player.
With towns I gave him the benefit last year because its his first play off period with him being the undisputed number 1 but this year he disappointed again so my conclusion is, he isn't that guy that will get the team out of the first round at least. I now view his generational offensive talent as a center a lot less now.
If he is going to keep disappointing this much, I much rather gobert on the court because we all see that the team was able to play well without him this season.
I suggest the wolves trade towns and run the team with gobert at the 5 next season and see where they will go. Edwards has shown super star potential against the nuggets, so i think the team would survive without towns
