      @@peo4989 It is kind of odd but in the end it is one of those bits of trivia that add more depht. There was a time when i didn't realy pay atention to anything other than the music (come to think of it, i didn't realy even listen music that much). I couldn't care less who were in the band. So I'll just say (on behalf of all Sabaton fans), nice to have you onboard sir and welcome to the wonderful world of Sabaton. If you share your feelings about the subject matter along with your informed opinion (you have served after all) then that will ad to the facts in the history video, and that in turn may be interesting for some viewers. You have a good day sir, and I'll wait for your next Sabaton reaction to see what you decide to do. Greetings from Sweden (well from Norway, as 'm currently at work...lol).

She said she'd give them a try, so I notified the Nightwish Discord after she uploaded, and she went up 5K subscribers overnight. 11:20 a lot of soldiers had to be moved to different parts of the front lines. Many of them flat refused to fight the men they had shared this experience with. The truce lasted several days in some places, a few pockets holding out for weeks before they'd concede to fighting again.

    The blowing up of the piano was a nice touch. The carols are OVER. The next year there was artillery bombardment to ensure nobody tried to do that again. It's insubordination!! But good on the men who showed humanity.

  • @andrewames247
    @andrewames247 Před 2 lety +10

    When I first saw this music video (in my local coffee shop, of all places) I openly wept; events like this should NEVER be forgotten! Where even in the worst of moments, we can still be called "human"...
    Also, if no one has said anything, that cross still stands! It was erected in 1999, on the 85th Anniversary by a group calling itself the Khaki Chums, in Ypres, France, about a mile from the border with Belgium, where some of the worst fighting took place in WW1.

  • @John2r1
    @John2r1 Před 2 lety +3

    This story actually happened over several days along the front lines in WW1. It was a week before the fighting started again. And only happened once. As the commanders of both sides ordered artillery shelling the next Christmas. Because they didn't want a repeat of said insubordination.
    The background of the event is that the Pope was trying to get both sides to do exactly what the soldiers decided to do on their own. The unit level officers exchanged messages over the trenches saying tomorrow we don't shoot if you don't shoot. And that's how it happened.

  • @Razgriz85
    @Razgriz85 Před 2 lety +7

    The men were pulled from the frontlines due to not being able to continue fighting, which was hurting morale, and officers would punish anyone that tried something like it again. Also, fun fact: the Russians tried something like this on Easter. They'd heard about the Christmas Truce and thought they'd try it, but since they're Easter isn't on the same day as the Germans, they ended up getting captured or gunned down by confused German soldiers wondering why a bunch of Russians were leaving their trenches unarmed.

    Oh, yes! I look forward to seeing what you thought of this one. It’s such a great song. One of their most emotional ones.
    I recommend watching the video several times, and then listening to the track. During the synth part right after the guitar solo, they show a lot of contemplation, and memories of the fighting. When you’ve seen that enough, you tie those visuals to that part of the song. Then, when you listen to the track, you don’t necessarily see what was shown at that point in the video (at least, I don’t), but your mind fills in the gaps, and you start experiencing similar emotions to what those soldiers must have felt. It brings me almost to tears every time now.
    This is an incredibly well-written song. One of their most powerful, up there with The Final Solution and The End of the War to End All Wars. It’s very moving.

    Hell yeah bro, the most requested songs are the ones I wanted you to react to as well as a vet, but they arent even the bands best songs. I hope you continue reacting to their other songs that aren't focused on the US army, but you definitely knocked out ones most pertinent to you. As someone who started listening to Sabaton not long ago, I appreciate seeing other people's perspectives and especially american ones. If i have one request, it's that if you react to the Carolus Rex album, try to do it all in one go instead of some here and there, as well as check out some of the versions in swedish and dont forget the captions. The live version of "En livstid i krig" is one of the best videos i've seen of a live performance, that one you can react to whenever and however and if you get more interested then the whole Carolus Rex album will definitely be a treat for you.

    Absolutely brilliant. A true masterpiece in every respect. Sabaton is much the same as Nightwish, in that they use music to tell the story and they are so damn good at it that it hits you hard every time. It should come as no surprise that Hannes, their drummer is husband to Floor Jansen whose angelic and operatic voice you hear at the end. Every Sabaton piece is a history lesson. Indeed, lest we forget, as there are those who as we speak are trying to erase our history and separate us from our past, and to no good end. We cannot allow that to happen.

    Did you even recognize who did the vocals during the end credits?

    Why? Because the vocals were done by none other than Floor Janssen - Hannes' wife.
