    I’ve been working remotely from home for over a month now and I absolutely love it! My company gave us the option at the start of 2022. I would loved to have a private office but i was able to create comfy office nook in our family room. My kids are grown now So I have the living area to myself during. It was the best decision I could’ve made!

    I like taking control of my time, and I struggled with time management when I was shifted to work from home last year. But I adopted a time tracker (Tmetric), and it did help me improve my skills with managing the time I devote to work and to enjoy my time outside working hours because without a time tracker I seemed to be addicted to work and be online 24/7.

For context, I just started a remote position with a new company and while I have the freedom to choose where I work, I'm still expected to work 9-5 hours Mon - Fri. What routines or systems have worked for you so that you're able to maximize you're productivity during your work hours?

    • @BetterwithPhoebe
      @BetterwithPhoebe  Před 4 lety

      @@Habitualstargazer Great question. I'm going to make a dedicated video on this but the short answer is, start experimenting with structuring your day and organizing your tasks on paper or with an app. Try to cluster like tasks together so that you don't lose momentum when switching tasks. If you are expected to be "online" try to carve out focused time, where you turn off IM and your phone and focus solely on one task either until it is finished or the period is over.

    • @BetterwithPhoebe
      @BetterwithPhoebe  Před 4 lety

      I'm an introvert so I was worried about this too. My natural instinct is to spend time alone or with close friends. Set a goal for yourself to spend time with people outside your household regularly (once it's safe! #COVID) and set a separate goal to meet with people in your organization regularly just to chat. Pay attention to how much time you spend alone, speaking to others, or with others. If you're mindful, aware, and intentional about getting social time in, you'll be fine!

      @@BetterwithPhoebe Every single tip for remote working, not only yours, sum it up to "act as if you are at the office". You know, the time that the employee buys from employers and with it, the privilege to control it. In the case of remote work it doesn't stop there, you become responsible for the working environment, equipment, control of distractions and so many others little and larger details which in the case of the office are controlled by trained professionals, at least in big corporations, and developed by scientefic method. Please don't get me wrong I found your advice useful and clever, my objection is that I don't see remote work as a way for the employee to take control of her/his time, rather the opposite. A way for the employer to extend his control on the free time of the employer.
      "Any color so long as it is black" as the famous reformer of working space and racist H. Ford used to say. Remote work gives control of your time as long as you work at least as hard and as long as at the office.
      PS Please forgive any expression errors, I am not a native speaker.

    • @BetterwithPhoebe
      @BetterwithPhoebe  Před 3 lety

      @@sentinel1602 I agree that working remotely does put more responsibility on the employee to manage their space, but I disagree that it automatically gives your employer more control of your time. Each remote worker makes choices about their working hours regardless of whether they are afforded flexibility or are working set business hours. If I worked until 7 instead of 5, my employer isn't *making* me do that - even if I feel pressure from my company to do so.
      The added responsibility to manage our space also gives us freedom. Yes, you have to choose what color, but isn't that better than being stuck with Ford's black? Would it be better to be stuck in an office where everything is prescribed or in your home where you can craft an environment that suits you?
      I think this is a great idea for a video. I really appreciate your feedback. (And your English was great!)
