  • This rig amazed me with its capabilities right off the factory showroom. The list just goes on. What upgrades would you want on your overland build? The Power Wagon probably has it.

    The Power Wagon is an excellent platform. Our community continues to grow. And like the Jeep community, Power Wagons come with a built-in community and a huge event every year for Power Wagon owners, Power Wagons in Moab, every May.

      I wish I got one 3 years ago before I went with something cheaper because I was in a pinch, I mean it's still a 2012 Ram 1500 and I've done some mods and did a big cam swap and all new top end myself. I loved my 03 2500 Hemi I had. Maybe one day I'll get one but then again I can just change my 1500 since it's paid off in 3 months.

    I traded my Tundra for a 2018 power wagon. Tundra rode a little better on road. Gas mileage was better with the tundra. PW comes with the winch and locking diffs. I love the PW! But it is a personal choice, I have no regrets.

    I loved my 2012 Powerwagon, but I tow more often than I used my truck off-road so I traded it for a 2017 Ram 2500 Laramie Megacab with the Cummins diesel. Personally I’d rather tow my toys to the trail than risk damaging my daily driver but not everyone has that option or preference. I have no regrets from owning my Powerwagon. The powerwagon may be slightly limited because of its size but the peace of mind that comes with knowing that you aren’t overloading or overworking ANY of the factory components is well worth the trade off in my opinion. My fully loaded Powerwagon was still well under the factory payload and I would feel confident that it would last as long as most of the modified Toyota’s etc you see running around 1500 lbs above the vehicles max gvwr. If you really run the numbers you could build a powerwagon cheaper than a equally capable Tacoma because you don’t have to touch the suspension or the axles. The factory wheels are even stronger than most so you can literally throw a set of tires on it, load you’re stuff, and hit the trails. I would recommend a set of white knuckle rocksliders tho because the biggest limitation I found was the breakover angle because the wheel base is relatively long. I’m glad to see the powerwagon is starting to gain some popularity in the overland world. It is a great platform and an exceptional value it you really consider all that it offers. Yes it has a large buy in, but it includes almost everything you need, the bank will finance it, and you don’t spend a ton out a pocket buying and installing accessories that you won’t see an extra penny for when you go to resell the vehicle.

      @terratechoffroad9665 Před 3 lety +1

      I did the AEV lift on my Power Wagon and love it. With their kit they replace the PW coils with factory 3/4 ton springs. While this only nets a 1 inch lift over a stock PW I now have the payload and towing of a standard 3/4 ton with all of the Power Wagons off road prowess! This set up allows you to run 37’s with no rubbing even with the sway bar disconnected with a minor bumper trim.
      This truck has been my daily driver for 2 years, tow pig and weekend adventure vehicle. It averages 12mpg, and I have recorded as high as 14 on long drives and 9mpg towing our 20 foot toy hauler. It just does everything well, other than narrow trails, she’s a bit big boned!

      Weight and space AFAIK. Supposedly interferes w/the winch, mounted as it is in the "stealth" position.

      Are you serious? The only thing inhibiting Ram from offering the Powerwagon in diesel, is the winch? C'mon.... Just design a better front bumper OR contract with an existing manufacturer to provide an adequate bumper that will afford enough room for the diesel and winch. I don't believe it. If they offered the Powerwagon in the diesel they wouldn't be able keep up with sales. They have to know this. There must be other reasons. Weight issues?? Ford offers their Tremor in the gas or diesel, and 250 or 350.

      @@phattygoodness7347 🤷‍♂️ that's the word, weight and fit. Plenty aftermarket winch bumpers for diesels, but that does not avoid the weight issue and they'll prob stick out some. I'm not FCA though, this is only what I have heard.

      Just seems so trivial. They could increase sales immensely. They already have countless spring combinations and ratings for the different models. Can't imagine that they can't find a spring or components to accommodate the weight of the diesel. I mean...they offer a heavy duty front end service package and a snow plow package with rated springs.
      Anyway...just seems like lost opportunity.

    • @ryanhammerel2654
      @ryanhammerel2654 Před 4 lety +2

      The diesel oil pan is also much deeper, hanging lower and reducing up travel and being more vulnerable. The weight difference when you consider the diesel engine and maintaining having the winch is significant. The 6.4L Hemi has plenty of torque with the 4.10 gearing. Especially with the new 8 speed tranny. The Cummins torque is unnecessary overkill. The Power Wagons purpose is not to haul or tow extreme loads. That extra weight bias forward also is not ideal for off-road suspension dynamics. The engineers and Ram corporate are well aware of the constant chatter about a diesel Power Wagon and still don't do it. Obviously it isn't because they don't want to make money. It is not the ideal configuration for the goals of the truck. The Ford Tremor isn't bad but it still isn't the complete package of a Power Wagon. Make no mistake, it does not have the off the lot capability of a Power Wagon. It all just depends what your true goals for your truck are.
