This is my favourite place on earth. And it was my mom's favourite place, too. I took her ashes from Mexico to Sounion, so she could rest un her favourite place. I have no words to express my gratitude towards his place, as it has given so many teachings for my life.
This is my favorite place on the planet so far. Sunset is spectacular there.

Loved Sounion. I visited this place as a child 40 years ago, and I was in awe, It so happens I will return there in two months time to enjoy it again ;) This time with a sunset.

Wow, I was at the temple this past Sunday. Drove down from the east side of Attiki through the beach towns, around the tip of Sounio, and up the west side through Voula, Vouliagmeni…..
What a magical place.
Might be a bunch of stones, but it all really speaks to you of what a people back then saw and felt to build that temple at that place.
It is a magical place and I loved the drive. I am always amazed at what they could build in those times.

The day spent driving down to Sounion with my family was always one of my favorite things to do as a kid when we lived in Voula in the 70s. My brother jokingly called it the Temple of the Wind because it was always so windy there, and for 40-some years I mistakenly thought that's what it was called. One of my dream retirements would be in a house built on the side of the hills right off the very curvy road that goes to Sounion. I did a quick tour down there in 1998 on a return trip to Athens, but it was rainy the whole time, so not quite as enjoyable. Love the Greece videos.

A must visit in Greece is Sounion. The effect is stronger on a sunny day rather than a cloudy day.
Across from Sounion is an island, Macronisos, where the 'communists' were held in the 60s and 70s to be 'rehabilitated.' Essentially, a political prison. Apparently there's no entry now, no tourism.
It definitely is a must visit and I can't believe it has taken me so long to get there.
I'll be in Athens again next summer. Cape Sounion i on my lit of places to visit. Thanks for sharing your passion for travel with us!!

I am Canadian coming to Greece in October around the 20th. How should I travel from Italy to Greece. I want to see Athens and 2 or 3 islands in the 8 or 9 days in plan to be in Greece.
My next country is Turkey. Any suggestions how I can go from Greece to Turkey by ferry to the Izmir area of Turkey.

Flying from Italy is the best option. I wouldn’t try to fit that much in for that much time. I would only do Athens and one island. Two if they are close by. I haven’t gone to Turkey from Greece so I can’t advise. You’re welcome.
