A CAMPER’S REVIEW OF MYRTLE BEACH STATE PARK // what you need to know!

  • If you’re looking for the perfect, quiet, peaceful, nature-filled location to camp in your RV, Van or Tent in busy bustling Myrtle Beach SC then look no further than Myrtle Beach State Park… right? Well… the real answer is… maybe… maybe probably… it depends. You see with recent state park rate hikes other campgrounds in the area are now priced just as budget friendly as Myrtle Beach State Park campground. They probably can’t beat the nature available to soak in at this state park, but if the wind’s blowing the wrong direction we bet they can beat the peacefulness and quietness of this park by a mile. But still… if you just want to sit on the most quiet beach that’s close to the main drag of Myrtle Beach then this is going to be your best bet. In this video we’ll explain why… and we’ll tell you how it compares to other campgrounds in the area as well as show you around and give you a firsthand look at the sites and amenities.

Had a 3 night stay here booked last week. Left after two nights. Noisiest place we've stayed in 7 years including places in the mid-west that were beside rail tracks. Huge, long term construction project going on this Spring just outside the campground entrance. Loud droning noise from 7am to 3pm every day that can be heard from hundreds of yards away even down the beach. We were in one of the front sites so it was just a few feet from our camper across about 20' of trees. There was no forewarning of this project on the web page. We knew about the airport noise ahead of time, but it was worse than expected as the military was doing take-offs (on afterburner) and landings. It is no longer a military base, but the military still uses it for practice runs. We did tour Huntington Beach SP while we were there. Definitely a much better option.

Owen, you nailed it on this campground review! Huntington Beach SP just down the road in Murrells Inlet is better in every way. When we started camping at the SC State parks, it was $22 per night at the beaches!

I have been to the state park many times. In 1974-'75 my dad was stationed at Myrtle Beach AFB and we went swimming at that beach many times. Would like to return some day.

We love this park and we were just there for 8 days during Easter break. Yes the airport traffic was noisy but our grandchildren found it really cool and the beach more than makes up for it. We loved that our dog was able to walk the beach with us too. Lots of things to do and some great restaurants south of the park down at the Marsh Walk. Much better than the parking lot style RV parks down the road. Thumbs up from us!

We had a site with water and power only - no sewer, but we were right by the bathhouse so it was really no problem. Our spot was only $45 a night! $150 for three nights! We Really Enjoyed It!! This time of the year (June), pretty much everything at the beach is booked, but we were able to get 2 nights at MBSP on short notice. We’ve stayed here before and the jets are a bit noisy and we prefer HBSP, which was not available. Being SC residents and seniors, our 2 nights costed us $94 for both nights. Ocean Lakes and Lakewood were booked and sights there are $100 a night plus taxes.

Glad you could get a spot. As long as they keep selling out the price will only keep going up. Ocean Lakes and Lakewood have a lot more luxuries to enjoy though for that price. Guess it’s all relative. one-bedroom condo just up the road is now almost $500 per night plus tax. Now that gets expensive in a hurry. I’ll take the plane noise.

It’s too hot here for us to be able to enjoy sitting in the van with those temps and we don’t want to head to the beach just to sit at a restaurant or store. It’s only going to get worse here in the lower 48. Large number of national forests just put in a reservation for specific sites for $$ system and more will continue to do that. We struggle with that too but this camping thing is getting to be so expensive. The first time we stayed there it was $22 per night. Now the same site is $75, plus a ton of extra tax. But to put it in perspective a one-bedroom condo just 2 miles up the road on the same beach is almost $500 per night plus tax. So it’s still a deal… just not as much of one.
