Atlanta still had 18 passenger schedules in 1969 - one year before both Union and Terminal Stations were closed.
Had a relative take the Nancy Hanks to Savannah during that time. Had one locomotive and one car.

Sad to think many of those trains didn't survive to become part of Amtrak and even those that did got discontinued later on

Notice most of these trains have several head-end cars. Passenger trains carrying mail were still somewhat profitable.
When the Post Officd cancelled most mail contracts, the railroads started petitioning the ICC to drop passenger service, citing heavy losses.
Some pundits still think the airlines bribed either Post Office officials or LBJ, to get mail off of trains and onto planes.

Great clips. I'll watch any cab unit anywhere pulling anything. On my layout I run the Southern Crescent and the Piedmont, both circa 1976. Even put the Bicentennial decals on the 4 E8s! Also run UP excursion train with correctly numbered E9s. Check it out! I have worn out most of my Green Frog VHS tapes. LOL.
