A pilot never forgets that first solo whether it is in a powered or non- powered aircraft. I did both within two years of one another. Powered craft are great but gliders give you a sense of being unrestricted.
Having never flown a glider (intentionally, lol), I would think having an engine would make you feel more unrestricted wouldn't it? A glider I would always be stressed about my altitude and range.
@@chad1755also not a pilot but I feel like it has more to do with the fact that planes with engines, while they can obviously glide, are absolutely required to land somewhere if the engine quits. Where a glider can gain altitude by riding updrafts/thermals and are (obviously) designed to glide for a much longer period of time at whatever altitude (compared to aircraft with an engine). But not a pilot, I technically have no idea what I’m talking about lol
Legit brings a tear to my eye every time I see someone’s first solo. Happy for them and sad for me. Of all the doors closed to me for being colorblind this hurt the most. I’m danged near 50 and still kicks me in the balls.
I welled up, with a big stupid grin, because the surprise on his face brought me back to my first solo. A ton of emotions (including fear) all at once. Congratulations (and condolences for the ruined shirt 🫣✂️)!

I could never give up on it, and I would go through it all over again without hesitation. Even though things haven’t fully worked out yet after nearly 20 years, I believe everyone has their own journey, no matter how long it takes. It's not about the setbacks, but the perseverance until you finally succeed.
Looks like that guy is going to be a very good pilot. His instructor had him solo at the right time as he looked prepared, confident, calm and nailed the flight!

Apparently there are ways to get a license or even becoming an airline pilot even if you're colorblind. Never give up!
Yeah, you can still be a pilot if you want to army air core in the uk recruits some color blind apache pilots I know a (Colour blind Apache pilot)
My father is colorblind and is a helicopter pilot? He started with flying planes to get into flying helicopters. He just can't fly at night.
