    As usual with apple, you’re paying for design. Most people in tech underestimate the value of beauty, while most people who use tech who aren’t enthusiasts, resent the lack of beauty in their products. Hence why apple is the most valuable company in the world.

      I understand that aesthetics matter especially in products that you hold in your hand and carry it around all day like iPhone and Apple Watch but when it comes to a display which sits at your desk in a corner of your house 24/7, aesthetics is not something I would want to pay for especially when it costs that much.

    I have two of these Studio Displays, one connected to my MacBook Pro 14 and the other to my work Dell latitude 3420 with USB-C and it works flawlessly. With Monitor Firmware updates, I just plug it to my MacBook Pro to download the update and adjust the brightness but once you update the brightness, you only need to do that once. I love these monitors and nothing else comes close. And oh yeah, having both monitors connected to my MacBook Pro in dual display mode and using both screens at once is magical and it's amazing that the MacBook Pro can run two 5K displays. B&H Photo and Video has these in stock and mine was delivered in three days.

So seeing my work on that glass display at 5K is awesome. The color is stunning and I love having the speakers as an extra source for audio referencing. The monitor is amazing.

  • @mpetrides
    @mpetrides Před 2 lety +8

    Nice example of independent thinking when reviewing tech. That said, I'm not sure I agree about the refresh rate. I don't game on this display and doubt most people would--for the very reasons you mention, no HDMI support and poor PC support means no gaming consoles and likely no PC gaming either. I'm actually surprised at how fluid the scrolling is.
    As for why I LOVE my Studio Display: First the image quality is just fantastic. Colors are gorgeous and 600 nits is plenty bright for use in a very bright room with a wall of south-facing windows. The text is as crisp as it is on my MBP screen but I now have much larger real estate. I'll take a 5K display, and the sharpness of text it allows, over 120 Hz refresh rate or mini-LED any day of the week.
    And, as you mentioned, the coordination with other Apple devices makes use of this display seamless--it turns on immediately when I tap a key or click the mouse, the keys adjust brightness and volume exactly as I would expect, even when I'm using an external keyboard with my MBP in clamshell mode.
    Mini-LED might have been nice but I have no real complaints about black levels or blooming or any of the other "defects" other reviewers dwell on. So, like a faster refresh rate, mini-LED is a nice-to-have but not a need for me. All in all, the Studio Display is pretty much exactly what I was looking for in a monitor and worth the $$$$ I paid for it, given that I expect to be using it for a very long time.

    For the price, there are just too many epic fails with these Mac displays. (All the stand issues and no daisy chain are two of the most epic fails.)
    As for the sound system, I wonder if you can connect two HomePod mini’s in stereo pair mode? (HomeKit enabled might work)
    That would be good.

  • @anothernumber9753
    @anothernumber9753 Před 2 lety

    I think you could connect multiple one's speakers together in settings on Mac OS. like it wouldn't have any special surround features but you can make a "composite" audio device I settings:(idk if that's really what it's called) but you should be able to at least use the speakers from more than one at the same time doing that method. I did this with an external speaker and my MacBook once. It didn't sound great but with 2 things with the same speaker setup it might work well.

    Showing up late, I know, but you can use the app Loopback to send L channel audio to the left monitor, and R channel audio to the right monitor. You do loose spatial audio capabilities, and the overall audio loses bass response - but you can add a powered sub and send L+R channel audio to that, and the sub's crossover will take care of sending just the bass signal through. I just got this set up last night and it sounds as good as my old 2.1 system (which is where I repurposed the sub from), but I don't have to have satellites on my desk anymore.

    I really liked your review, it was beneficial compared to many of the others I've watched, and I really appreciated your thoughts on the glossy vs. matte.
    The one issue I have with most of the reviews I've seen is the "its good or its bad" answer without adequately defining the question they are trying to answer. I'd rather see a review focused on specific Use Cases like Photo/Video editing. You mentioned in a response that you are deciding between keeping it or staying with your LG. I've looked, and I don't see anything similarly priced, with the brightness, color representation, and resolution as the Apple Studio Display.
    These are honest questions, so any feedback is valued.
    - What would be your review for someone explicitly looking for a monitor for photo and video editing to pair with the new Apple Studio computer?
    - If you don't recommend this one, what other monitors on the market have a better price with comparable features?

    • @TausifHussain
      @TausifHussain  Před 2 lety +3

      Thanks so much man! I really wanted to take my time with it and provide as much value as I could. I’m really glad this helped. I’m leaning on keeping the apple display at the moment.
      As for your qs, I really think there’s value in having a standardized Color style to work with. I think apple does a good job with this. I’m also pretty confident we’ll see a pro monitor from them soon this year which will address the concerns we have. If you want ultra wide the LG ultra wide 5k has been really good to me. If you want a normal monitor with really good clarity and don’t need gaming systems or windows and are ok with all the drawbacks I mentioned I really like this apple studio display. If you’re in a budget LG ultrafine 5k.

    • @seanmolincreative
      @seanmolincreative Před 9 měsíci

      Late to the party, but yes Loopback does allow you to do this - send all L channel audio to left display, and R channel audio to right display. If you have a powered subwoofer with a crossover you could even add that as a third channel and send L+R to it for massively improved bass response.

    It’s a great monitor for coding. I got the nano texture one and I stopped getting headaches everyday after work. That justifies the price IMO.
    I am going to pick up a second one, but going to wait until after WWDC in case they upgrade anything.
    I stared at the nano texture and the standard glass display side by side, doing the same exact thing on each monitor in the Apple Store for about two hours. I also wear pretty strong Rx glasses and my doctor told me that I have enough astigmatism for four people. I found the nano one to be a sharper image. It was so hard to tell the difference - it came down to the cat’s whiskers on the pic that I was looking at to be able to see the difference lmao 🤣

I am on the fence of buying a lightly used nano glass with tilt and height adust for $1400. I just dont want to regreat buying something that will stress my eyes and hurt it. it will be used as a work monitor. I do inventor CAD modeling and current dell monitor stresses my eyes. Its got a matte finish but I believe its a coating vs what apple has done to keep the contrast and clarity at a minimum.

So now, when i want to change my monitor i am seriusly thinking about these studio displays. It is not a pro graph display, lacks of lot, but does it matter nowdays? I do commercials for living, art prints 10%, magazines has editors with eizos and iccs to their printhouse, i am not directly connected to them, so it is a dilemma. I need a display which is as close to an iphone/macbook pro display as it can and it is not in the 10k range so i dont need to doublecheck all of my work on diferent display. You 100% can use the speakers from both monitors and even the laptop… all at once.
    Open Audio MIDI Setup from your utilities folder…
    Bottom left select the plus symbol +
    Select multi-output device
    Then on the right put a check box in all the devices you want audio to come out of.
    Done.

    Thank you very much for this informative review. My personal feedback on your impressive editing skills. I would have preferred no 'background' music and a more natural audio flow, rather than creating these unnatural chopped up sentences. However, I admit that this editing style has now become popular. Thumb up, of course (#964). Given that you are an obvious Apple specialist, could you provide me with some advice? I also have the Studio Display sitting on my desk right now and contemplating a return. My issue is that Numbers sheets created on my MacBook 16 can now be altered on the Studio Display, given that the monitor is so much wider. However, an issue arises when I view them again, now altered, on my MacBook screen. I hope that I am expressing myself clearly enough and thanks again for your upload.

    You are wrong. Go to your iPad, setting, monitor ==> then you can adjust the brightness settings of your new apple studio display, i did and tested it for many time already. Work fine for both iPad Pro and iPad mini!!!!!

    Too many compromises on this display IMHO. I wanted one, but bad web-cam, the inability to replace the stand with a VESA mount later, or paying an insane price for height adjustment.
    But the killer thing for me is the inability to daisy chain the displays. That's a key part of these USB-C/Thunderbolt displays.
    I was ready to get one of these, but these CZcams reviews have changed my mind. :-(

      @@prhawkeye I'm sure the webcam will be updated. There isn't a reviewer out there that is satisfied with it the way it is.
      As for the monitor stand, why should I have to go to an Apple store to change it? It's not like there is a standard mounting system that's been in place for over a decade. What will Apple charge for this service? Will they stop offering it at some point? I keep displays a very long time, so those are things to consider.
      You also said the only thing that was true is the daisy chaining? You don't have to pay $400 extra for height adjustment?
      Agree about 32'. Surprised that wasn't in the offering either.

      @@prhawkeye I think we are thinking alike on this.
      Seemed to be over-engineered to put what is essentially a full iPhone inside this thing just to drive the display (video / audio) features. Especially if they do nothing else with it.
      I really want to love this display, but I'm not there yet. Waiting on the sidelines for a bit with this one.

    I'm totally against nano texture, mat effect, .... Everyone says that nano texutre help you when you have light reflection on your back, but if you compare both display I think it's totally the opposite of what they say, with light reflections the glossy screen is better.

    Great review! If you want to use the Studio Display with Windows, you should be able to, by installing the Bootcamp software from Apple, where it has a working driver for Windows 10/11, where you can adjust the brightness and choose all the color profiles, just like on Mac. As a note Bootcamp seems to run on any pc, so it is not limited to Intel Macs. I saw it in a Chinese review and he was kind enough to link to all cables and bootcamp software in the description, so it shouldn't be a problem if you are a Windows user on a regular pc, but still want this bad boy.

    Hello! You're the first internet commentator I've seen that commented on the weirder aspect of BTO and monitor stand terrain-inflexibility with the Apple Studio Display. All logical points and nobody else is dwelling on them. There are other issues that may draw customers to this monitor: (1: This is the only 5K, high-image-quality monitor (that I know of) that offers VESA-mounted configurations the ability to pivot 90º for viewing in "portrait mode", excellent for DTP work. I think LG offers this but only on 4K monitors. If anyone else out there does, it's news to me. (2: Everyone says that Windows hardware "plays" on this monitor, so you can theoretically at least plug-in a modern Windows computer, but nobody says anything about running Parallels on an Apple Silicon Mac, which means it would still be within the MacOS. Would that make a difference in controlling the monitor? (3: Everybody notes the ports on the Apple Studio Display, but nobody tests them to check data transfer speeds or reliability.

    • @Razattax
      @Razattax Před 2 lety

      Parallels would make no difference, it’s running macOS.
      Max Tech does some pretty comprehensive testing I think. As far as speeds go, one of my SSDs performs well, with the same 700-750Gps (Samsung T7), but plugging a second one in caused issues, being slow or not even reading it correctly. No issues with reliability in the short time I tested using the first SSD plugged into it, with 4K video editing in Premiere Pro, again only briefly.

    Great review. Every step Apple takes is driven by revenue. Period. That is why the monitor is too expensive for what you get. That is why the basic stand is so limited in its adjustments (i.e., no height adjustment); it forces the buyer to upgrade (+ $400). If the non-detachable monitor cord gets damaged, you have to send it to Apple service for a hefty replacement fee. Not to mention that Apple accessories (e.g., Apple's 3-meter Thunderbolt cable cost $159!) are ridiculously high-priced. It's great stuff . . . if you can afford it.
