- Our Peak synth is without doubt the most powerful synth we’ve ever created, and since its launch 18 months ago, users around the world have let us know ways in which they reckon we could make it even better.
In this video, CALC takes you through all the new features in the Peak Firmware v1.2 update. We’ve made your most frequently requested features a reality, adding 178 presets by Patricia Wolf and GForce software.
What's in the v1.2 update?
We've added 43 new wavetables, much more modulation, redesigned the Mod Matrix, FX Modulation, microtuning, plus new soundpacks from Patricia Wolf and GForce software.

Super pumped! Your continued support for devices is why I own multiple Novation synths.
Excellent update! And I just love your t-shirt!

I just updated. This is just great. What a unique synth. Will be remembered 20 years from now but at this time it sounds so contemporary. The feeling of the update is the same as when the device first arrived in the mail.
🙌🙏
Now I am really looking for the update that lets us 'natively' stack more Peaks to raise its voice count to 16, 24, 32 etc. And an X-tender that is only a box with the electronics controlled by our Master Peak :D@@NovationTV
Thank you for doubling the fun with this great, inspiring synth. Peak really understands music profoundly, it is like a musical partner, a composer of its own kind, an artificial musical intelligence ;-D Very, very well done! The 1.2 firmware is like having received a new synth as a very generous gift. Wow! Thanks again!
Thank you for your kind words. 🙏
it's great to hear that you're enjoying working with Peak v1.2
Great job Novation!👏🏼
Fabulous!! The only thing I could possibly want now is a selection of slopes (linear, exponential, logarithmic, etc.) for the stages of the envelope generators. Hopefully for the next update?
The hardware can do it (easily) The hardest part would be fitting it in the menus somewhere.
Interesting idea. We'll share your feedback with the team. 👍
Great video btw
Wow. Basically... It's like having a new synth.
Hi there Calc. I was wondering why Novation don't simplify the matrix modulation process by allowing the user to define sources and destinations via all those lovely knobs. For instance, If I wanted to modulate the filter cutoff with LFO 1, it would be cool to select a modulation slot, (say slot 1), press 'source', touch LFO 1, select 'destination' and tweak the filter cutoff knob. It might not work for every parameter but would speed things up considerably. Great synth BTW. I just got mine...
Polychaining would be a great feature if possible.
I’ve been wanting a hardware version of Serum for a while now. Being able to upload custom wavetables and FM them would essentially make this product the hardware brother. It’s too similar to the Virus for me to purchase at this time.
Loving the new update!
One question though: in the 1.2 release notes it says "Now you can, for example, expand and contract a reverb with a rhythmic LFO, or automate delay time changes using an envelope." There doesn't seem to be a way to use an actual envelope to modulate the FX. Does that basically just refer to the 2 new LFOs or am I missing something?
It's great to hear that you're enjoying Peak v1.2!
You're correct, that isn't possible. Envelopes can't be used to modulate FX. Thanks for bringing this to our attention, it appears that this could be a typo. We will look into getting this amended.
Came for the moustache
Yes
Is it at all possible to eventually have an update that increases the amount of voices? I'm not sure if the FPGA allows for that.
Field programmable gate array. It can do anything you tell it to if it has enough cores. The only bottleneck is simultaneous core usage (and possibly memory but I doubt it) not sure how much overhead it has, but I'm sure you could double up to 16 voices if you didn't use any modulation or effects. That unpredictable behavior is why novation will never do that though.
Is the Peak being controlled by the SL Mk2 directly through MIDI or is there a computer out of view connecting them together? Can the SL be used standalone with the Peak and have the knobs, sliders, and buttons be assigned to control Peak AND show the function on the little SL screens? Does that makes sense?
Libertarian Coconut yes it is, you don't need a computer for the mk3 to work as controller.
@@ogasi1798 Thanks! Is there a midi mapping file available that automatically assigns controls or does it need to be done manually? And if there is a pre-assigned mapping, does the SL display which control it's assigned to? Like if I adjust a knob, will the SL tell me if it's a reverb, delay, etc. on its associated screen?
Libertarian Coconut mk3 has template presets, you can also make your own and yes it shows what you are adjusting.
We used SL MkIII connected directly to Peak here. No computer is required. SL MkIII has a dedicated Peak template that assigns parameters for intuitive control from SL MkIII, utilising the screen on SL MkIII. You can also use Components to create your own, bespoke Peak template: components.novationmusic.com
What oscilloscope brand/model are you using?
I believe it is the Longruner DSO138
Chris has a JYE DSO138 oscilloscope. It's a DIY project but Chris tells us that it's not that difficult to build:

@@NovationTV Hi there, I love this thing (i'm quit visual and own it on a Minilogue) who do you plug it to the peak (I do belive this is the only missing part of this fabulous synth) ?
I am wishing for a randomize patch function to quickly go through possibilities and then fine tune from there!
Interesting idea. Thanks for sharing this with us, we will feed this back to our dev team for their consideration. For now, have you tried experimenting with the new 'Live Initialise' feature? This can be used to quickly create random patches. When you update to Peak v1.2 you can access a new Patch initialise option from the Settings Menu. ‘IniPatch’ will initialise a patch as before, restoring all parameters to their default values. ‘Live Initialise’ will load up an initial patch but take the values of all of the current ‘live’, physical position of all of Peak’s pots and sliders. ‘Live Initialise’ is ideal for instantly getting hands-on with new patches, and creating random ones from scratch.
Where is the shirt from though?

Is Novation the best synth company? Yes. Yes they are.
✊🙌
MPE support yet?
No, but we can definitely see the value in adding that type of functionality. We might get the opportunity to do that in the future.
@@NovationTV That is exciting to hear! Thank you guys for the amazing support!
@@NovationTV That would be immensely appreciated! Kudos on a fantastic (free!) update Novation.
@@NovationTV Yes please. It would definitely bring this great synth to another level of playability and expression.

Why is it, that I cannot make friends with the peak? I really tried to find him great, but somewhere he does not really want to get excited. he lacks nice-sounding warmth, expression and punch. what a shame. I'm actually a big Novation fan. I have now decided for the Korg Prologue.
sbmphr Agreed. I much prefer the sound of my Blofeld but I’d much rather use the Peak interface. But the sound leaves me cold.
