    This is unquestionably the most impactful golf video I’ve seen on CZcams, or anywhere else for that matter. I bet I’ve watched it at least a half dozen times and have shared it with 10-15 others. Fantastic work guys.

    • @jasonkelley6185
      @jasonkelley6185 Pƙed 2 lety +10

      With all the golf instruction on CZcams, it’s hard to believe that a single video could be so much more impactful than anything else. I’ve watched a couple thousand golf videos over the last couple years and I keep coming back to this. I’ve never seen anyone address the topic of the details of these motions, at all. Using gears and those movement graphs, it couldn’t be clearer. As you rolled through the pro graphs and it all clicked, my mouth was hanging open. I totally misunderstood the golf swing until I watched it. A real holy s$%# moment for me. I literally watched this video, practiced with my camera TWICE, and went out to hit the best golf shots I’ve ever played.
      For years people have said my swing looks great and instructors have been all over the place with suggestions. The moment I watched this video, it was OBVIOUS to me that my setup with hips behind my ankles was why I was moving forward and crowding the ball, preventing rotation. Once I started trying to replicate the sequence of back and forward they talk about here in relation to the swing stages, I realized that it was EXACTLY what I do when I throw a baseball. It’s a way more natural movement than the “weight back on backswing, weight forward on swing,” crap I was doing before.
      I want to give you guys a giant hug too. Literally the single most useful video on clarifying the golf swing, by a large margin.

      Dumb question about hips behind ankles. I used to keep my weight on my toes until I read Hogan’s book and he recommends weight on your heels. If you guys are getting your hips over your ankles in the setup, where are you putting the weight on your feet?

Wouldn't have thought that the set up and position of the hips/pelvis over the ankles with the increased angles of the shins bones would make such a difference for balance throughout the swing. What’s crazy is that I’ve seen 4 or 5 pros and none of them corrected this super basic flaw in my setup that was clearly the cause of my standing up at impact, crowding the ball, flipping, and lack of rotation.

    Thank you for your excellent video. It confirms and reenforces earlier swing thoughts from a drill I was given 10 years ago.
    For the right hander - Set up (without a club in hand) with your back to a smooth wall that is parallel to the target line. Take a position so that your butt cheeks 2 inches away from the wall.
    There are three moves:
    1. Rotate the hips so that the right butt cheek brushes the wall from right to left - ie. towards the target.
    2. When you reach a full turn of the hips, swing the left butt to the wall (like a closing door) while the right cheek remains stationary.
    3. Rotate the hips brushing the left butt cheek away from the target (left to right).
    I could never measure it, but is suspect that the drill also gave me those four inches of right to left weight shift you mention in another video.
    All that brushing for walls with butt cheeks may sound a bit weird, but a little embarrassment in the cause of building a strong repeating golf swing is a small price to pay.
    All the best. RO

    Great video. It seems like "tilted shins" is a result of getting your hips and ankles aligned properly as opposed to a conscious effort to add more knee bend. Also, in his setup, he probably felt more weight in his toes after adjustment.

      Not I think this is important. The hips don't rotate, they move in response to actions of the femoral head.
      I think it's easier to "rotate"by concentrating on the part of the anatomy that's involved. This, for me, an old timer with a Titanium semi-pelvis, makes opening the hips and the pelvic tilt a natural opposite & equal response to what the clubbed is doing. Thoughts? pk

    • @apfhugh4446
      @apfhugh4446 Pƙed 3 lety +2

      Peter Kennedy
      I think the point of the video is that the hips don’t “open.” If the sacrum is stationary, and the hip joint is moved in what is perceived as a rearward direction, the fact that it is connected to the sacrum by the hip bones means the hip joint will be rotating around the sacrum. If the sacrum is stationary, the hip joint cannot move straight back, whatever nature of the hip joint or the force or motion applied to it. If you attached a ball to a string attached to a stationary point, and applied force to the ball, in any direction other than one toward the fixed point or directly away from it, the ball will rotate around the fixed point. The hip joints rotate around the sacrum all while the whole apparatus moves to the right and then the left.

      @apfhugh4446 Pƙed 3 lety +1

      Actually, while it might be better if AMG called the pelvis the pelvis consistently, and didn’t sometimes call it the hips, the video makes it damn clear what they are talking about, so no harm, no foul. Not all golfers are medical men, and I bet most people call that area down below the waist the hips, not the pelvis.

      @@apfhugh4446 exactly, although the "whole apparatus moves to the right" as you say is just barely to the right (see pro's movements starting at 9:12ish). They could put up a skeleton first and show "mid sacrum" so that is their midline term from there on out.

The comparisons to the pro's provides a great benchmark and frankly a lot of credibility to the instruction. Congratulations and thank you.

Glad to see my lateral movement toward the target is not necessarily bad and interesting it can start during the end of the backswing. Wow. I assume keeping the head still is the key there.

    I never really understood early extension, but was always told i do it.
    Im a scratch -2 handicapper (stupid new system). And the high right shot has always been my nemesis.
    A friend sent me this vid... 25 balls at the range and my swing transformed.
    I shot a 66 first round with it! Then followed it up with a 70 (having nuked my first shot of the day through the fairway into trouble and made a 7!)
    I feel like the video has been the most important change in my golf swing ever!!
