- King Vitaman is a classic cereal from Quaker that has stuck around for years, flying under the radar. The old commercials were great and even though they've changed the King throughout the years, it's still great.

Just had some today. I love this stuff.
I have no memory of this cereal but apparently I ate it. I'm here because I just found an old reel to reel recording from 1970 of me (at the age of 8) doing my own King Vitaman cereal commercial.
I was pronouncing it "King Vitamin".
I remember this stuff really tore up the roof of my mouth. A harder version of Captain Crunch.
That old crunch it use to have is gone

King Vitaman and Kaboom sold well during the time I work for the supermarket. Of course, those 2 cereals were on the list for the WIC program.
Jay Ward did the BEST commercials! These and the original Cap'n Crunch cereal commercials are classics...still enjoyable today!

My grandma actually brought me a giant bag of this cereal when I was young. I loved it. Then it disappeared only to reappear as dora the Explorer cereal.
+TheDonkeyFLOPPER It does seem very similar to Dora cereal! But they actually still sell King Vitaman in certain regions of the US. I got this box in North Carolina.
That ice cream cones cereal was AWESOME!! I remember King Vitaman used to have a cut out mask on the back back in the day 👍🏽

King Vitamin used to be pre-sweetened back in the 70s. In the 90s, I was re-introduced to the cereal but it was no longer sweetened and the pieces were bigger. I think the 80s Donkey Kong cereal tasted just like it too.

I remember once during the mid to late 1970s (shop rite supermarket Rockland County NY) my mother made a mistake (we didn't really eat sugar cereals ) and bought this cereal. I loved it and craved it but she never picked it up again during those years. Anyway it disappeared. I saw it years later & I noticed that it came back but instead it was in a bag instead of a cereal box.

Was my favorite as a kid I actually thought it was discontinued as it's been gone from our shelves since around 1974.
On one of the boxes shown in the ad it shows a toy truck you get with box tops .The headlights light up, takes 1 AAA battery if I remember correctly. I still have them in my stuff that's in storage. I need to go locate them after seeing this ad ,thank you for the link ,good memories for me.

Actually, if you analyze it a bit more, you'll find it's not as sweet as Cap'n Crunch. It also doesn't tear the roof of your mouth up as much as Cap'n Crunch does. This cereal is also rebranded in many Dollar General locations as "Cap'n Crunch Treasures".
Ohh cool! I've never seen the rebranded version. If you see it, can you take a picture for me?

I had no idea those were supposed to crowns. To me, it got pretty soggy but I still liked this cereal a lot and am sad it is no longer produced.
I was a little late coming along to see this one; my introduction of the KV existing was Pinky singing the jingle while bringing Brain cereal.
and now I'm here when they cancelled it for good :( I used to eat this as a kid, and I'd choose this OVER captain crunch and any of those other sugary cereals in the late 90s/early 2000s. It was awesome.

I was born and raised in North Carolina and moved to Colorado almost 30 years ago (BIG MISTAKE!!!!) and yes they had that cereal and several others in North Carolina which I can’t find out here….it seems that some cereal brands became more harder to find these days.

Now, I can not drink milk like I used to but I love to eat it as snacks, right from the box.

I grew up eating this stuff - I preferred it to Cap'n Crunch because due to the crown shape, it didn't get as mushy in milk as quickly as the Cap'n Crunch did. But I couldn't eat those sickeningly sweet cereals now.

If you go to Dollar General and purchase some "Cap'n Crunch Treasures", it is actually "King Vitaman" cereal.
I remember King Vitamin tasting much better than Capt'N Crunch. I remember not finding it for a while, but when I came back it didn't taste the same. The original taste and crunch was gone. Would be nice to taste the original formula again

+Gabe Fonseca yes indeed with their ghoulish makeup & wardrobe it would have the cereal be a smash hit on their album. I love their music always loved all the levels of the Metal Genre from Punk to Death Metal! And the dark to bright zany colors in their Art their videos etc.
Has a more honey 🍯 flavor in it than Captain Crunch. My fam n I love this cereal. 😀

They sell this at Food City grocery stores (you know like the NASCAR Food City 500 in Bristol TN). So yeah this is more or less a regional thing now.
I'll bet people buy it up immediately, because vendors charge $30/box for it now on eBay. I don't know if anyone pays that much, but that's what the vendors are charging.

Amazon is charging $20 for a box of King Vitaman! The price is outrageous, but I guess you are paying for its rarity. I really loved Quisp by the way. The box was cool in the small compact retro design too.

You should try Oat Bran Squares by Quaker Oats! It looks like Cap'n Crunch, tastes like Cap'n Crunch, and it's great for your health!

this was our substitute for the more expensive capn crunch in the 70's. the shape of the cereal would actually tear the skin off the roof of your mouth so you had to let it sit in the milk for awile before eating it

My parents found it in Asheville where they live. And they shipped it out to me. That was over a year ago though, so not sure it's still readily available.

I just bought an unopened box of King Vitamin cereal from a resale shop. They only had one. The box says and is spelled, "Vitamin." Does that mean anything ?

I wish Quaker didn't discontinue this cereal. IMO it was a better alternative to Cap'N Crunch which has gotten too damn sweet.

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but you won’t find it anywhere, because Quaker stopped making the cereal in 2019. It’s gone, unfortunately. :(

It's strange Quaker kept King Vitaman on the shelves for years while they let Quisp fade away to almost obscurity. :( I tried it a couple of times years ago but I didn't think it was all that good.
Agreed. But Quisp is still around too. You can find it on shelves (or online) from time to time

I remember eating King Vitaman cereal when I was a young lad in the 1990's, it was so good. It's a shame you can't find it at a local Walmart in Wisconsin no more. The only place to get it is online.

Hmm. It does taste like Cap'n Crunch , but way less sweeter than its counterparts (Cap'n Crunch & Quisp). I like it. You'd think that the texture of crown-shaped pieces would shred the roof of your mouth but it doesn't. I don't think it compares to Cap'n Crunch by any means. It is good though.
It used to be sweeter. But the selling point was that it had 100% of the US RDA of most vitamins. I'd rather have Cap'n Crunch myself and I don't have to pay a premium for it.
