- Thanks for watching!
Time flew by, wow! So much informative. Thank you
You're one of the best reviewers I've ever seen... Thanks man!
Great explanations on both headphones, really enjoyed watching!
Thank you for clearing that up for me. Have been trying to decide between these for mixing. Cheers Bruno, great review!
- You're welcome, thanks for watching! Which model do you think you'll choose?
Whoa, that was one comprehensive review, thanks for taking the time! I’m tempted by toughness, classic looks, and let’s be honest.. the price of the MDR-V6. If I get a pair I’d be doing the removable cable mod before too long.
Many thanks for this. Great review!
- Thanks for the positive feedback, really appreciate it!
Excellent articulated arguments!
- If you are the recording engineer, I would recommend the 250 ohm version. If you're both performing and recording (as in a home recording situation) I would go with the 80 ohm version.
- Thanks for the contribution!
Excellent ......just ordered the Sony and i enjoyed this very detailed review ....nicely done. Keep it up.
Glad the video was helpful, thanks for watching!
Great and thorough review! Excellent! Thank you :)
You're welcome, thanks for watching!
Totally agree! Thank you very much! Exellent review and very detailed explanation of difference in sound. It is very rare to find because most of reviews are just advertisments and made by people why dont work with sound. Also if it possible it would be very interesting to watch more headphone reviews and comparisons from you in the future!
Алексей Носков Yes I only review headphones that I use ;) Thanks for watching!
Still in love with my DT250 (80Ohm)!
So neutral, no strange coloration, so much detail and still not sounding too flat.
In fact, I enjoy them a lot, like my properly calibrated REC709 4K LCD. :D
Just Excellent. well done, thank you.
Thanks for watching Clarke!
- You're welcome, thanks for watching!
Now would you recommend the 80 ohms or the 250 ohms for referencing recording audio?
the most honest review of 7506s ... i feel the same but i produce with hdj1000 and listen to sony after 👍
WOW!💪
What a review 👀
It was truly awesome!👌
You broke it down from

And when you throw in my favorite bass player

I'm just blown away
I am new to the channel 👏
And I Love it 👌🤝✌️👏
Keep up the great work 👌
Thanks a lot
I was looking at these two headphones and trying to figure out which one
So Hell,
I'll just buy both
Start off with the Sony and then the other pair
I truly appreciate your time and excellent.✌️🤝👏👌
You're welcome Gordon, thanks for watching 👍🏻😊
26:22 that is exactly why I'm getting these (the beyerdynamics).
Great review Bruno, totally agree, I prefer the Sony's but I do like the DT150 and ATH-50 for the same reasons you like the DT250, you could say the Audio Techinca's sound
- Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed the video. I'm a big fan of Audio Technica mics but have not yet had a reason to try their headphones, because my Beyers refuse to wear out ;)
I love your accent, understand every word...Great comparison, thanks! I have to say in Europe the difference in price is not that huge...The Sonys are 115 €, the Beyers 145..
Thanks for watching! Yes, that is presumably due to shipping costs. In that case it make more sense to purchase the Beyers. Lucky you :)
Ciao Bruno, thanks for your great review! really you're the number one. Do you mean that I can use Sony MDR 7506 per vocal tracking/Podcast ? thanks for your reply and Merry Christmas 2020 and greetings from Italy
You're welcome Massimiliano! Sure, the MDR 7506s still work fine for that, even today. There are more modern designs out there but they tend to be more expensive. There is a reason this model is still in the Sony product lineup ;)
@@GLBProductions Yes I see..I have the Beyerdinamic 770 DT PRO 80 Ohms what do you think about it? For sure SONY MDR 7506 are too old as design...OMG I think they'have to update the design or....not? I think the most orrible headphones that I see
The Sony MDR7510 could be considered the upgrade to the 7506s, check them out.
@@GLBProductions thanks for your efficiency to reply ciaoo
Merry Christmas to you my friend!
Can't go wrong with either cans. Although I'd give a slight edge to the Sonys, but that's just personal pref.
Very helpful review. I will go for the Sony's as they are great value. Thanks 👍
Indeed they are! Enjoy your new headphones :)
I ABSOLUTELY second the problem with the 7506's and 'ear sweating'!
Mine will start after only 5minutes and I'm in the UK and have small ears!
I also find that the headband, because of its width, tends to cut into my scalp and I've ended up having to wrap tissue paper around. These headphones are definitely not the comfort factor.
- Glad you enjoyed the video! I take it you prefer the Sonys ;)
Hi. Enjoyed your comparison. I have been interested in trying a Beyer Dynamic set of headphones for music listening, not studio use. I am interested in an accurate presentation i.e not overly coloured. Whilst I do like treble, but I have been put off Beyer DT 770 880 & 990's as folks highlight the treble area as being overly bright for some. This brings me to your review of the Beyer DT250. I have read elsewhere that, along with your review, that these are more neutral throughout the audio spectrum. I have read that the 80 ohm, such the pair you use, have a pleasant treble. My question is: do you think that an 80 ohm would be better than a 250 ohm or would the 250 ohm also be fine for a pleasant treble too? Any advice would be appreciated.
Good day Ray. Over the years I have learnt that one's choice of headphone for personal listening is almost 100% subjective. Everyone's taste is different but more importantly everyone's ears are different. So I wouldn't put too much stock in what others say about a particular make or model 😉
Now when it comes to the impedance that is more straightforward: according to Beyer, in the case of the DT250s the impedance does not affect the sound of the headphones, only what type of equipment they are designed for. The 80 ohm models are for general use, the 250 ohm models are for connection to professional gear such as mixing consoles, multitrack recorders etc.
@@GLBProductions Thank you for your answer. I do agree with you about everyone's taste in headphones being subjective. I learnt that some years ago when I bought some AKG headphones based on a 5 star review in a well known HiFi magazine in the UK. I found them totally muddied and overly warm with no mid or treble definition. Thanks again.
You're welcome Ray!
I use Sony MDR and Beyer's dt990 pro just for music listening (my ears are 50+VAT old, thus prefer sort of v-shaped headphones), as well as Hifiman Sundara 2020. It all depends on ears, experience, possibly best source, but first of all on particular record mastering. Case: Rush Signals and Roll the Bones records, Signals is extremely treble oriented (can use Sony only), while Roll the bones goes perfectly on 990. Especially newly digitally remastered editions sound often worse than original analog ones.
Haha... DT250s are the new kid on the block? I had mine for around 15 years and I can add to your review that they are ridiculously reliable. I have been throwing them in a bag wrapping up the cable pretty hard on a daily basis for probably 5 out of the 15 years I've had them and only recently the cable failed. I simply bought a replacement cable for like $30. Additionally I have simply worn up the earpieces and the headband and had to replace them with inexpensive parts as well. But that's still a crazy good track-record for any headphone considering how much abuse they've seen. In my opinion you could find a lot of headphones with better frequency response out there, but they are reasonably flat and gets the job done :)
Zaki Wasik That's a great testimony! Are you aware that original replacement parts are available from Beyerdynamic on their webstore?
I used the expression new kid on the block as a relative term in comparison to the MDR-7506s, which have been around since 1991 ;)
I've used the DT 250 alot as a sound recordist and I think they're great and more comfortable than the Sonys. But the only bad side about the DT 250, just like you said at one point, is the plug going in to the headphones. It's a bit annoying in the winter when you're wearing your winter jacket it get's in the way of the zipper and you have to bend the cord awkwardly down and up from the collar of the jacket, it doesn't help much to run the cord through the inside of your jacket.
- Yes this is one of the reasons that I prefer the 770s over the 250s. That detachable cord is great for serviceability but it would be great if they could make the plug a bit smaller!
Wondering, have you tried them in a noise environment such as on a bus or on a train? Do they block out a lot of noise without turning the volume to too loud?
- The isolation on both of these models is excellent. I haven't used them on the bus or train but I've used them in the middle of live concerts and could still hear individual channels on my mixer :)
GLB Productions thanks :)
Hi Bruno!this is a very interesting vid!
I ahve a few questions if you don't mind...
A friend of mine has a 4 channels headphone amplifier, what is its purpose?
At home I think it's pretty useless...but maybe the four channels are meant for the recording musicians monitoring themselves at the same time?
And what the amplifier is for?If I turn the volume at max on my mixer to my headphones it's pretty damn loud...
And last but not least,do you recommend using these headphones for mixing?or is it best to have studio monitors?
For studio monitors I mean the loudspeakers such as the Yamaha HS50,not the studio monitor impressed above the sony headphones...better avoid misundestanding! ;)
***** Thanks for the questions Chris.
The multiple outputs are to let several people listen to a single source at the same time, for example if three people want to watch a movie without disturbing those around them. They can also be used to connect different types of headphones for comparison or just as simple active stereo signal splitter.
Not all headphone outputs are capable of high level - for example the output from a laptop computer may not be able to drive a professional 250 ohm pair of headphones to a sufficiently loud volume. Some people listen to music really loud!
It is better to have studio monitors for mixing, simply because wearing headphones for a long time gets tiring. However if your room has very poor acoustics it may be better to use a good pair of open-backed headphones like the DT990s. At the end of the day it is important to compare how our music sounds on different sources - headphones, monitors, earphones and also car stereo systems.
Got it! :)
For the monitor thing,I have read that it is always better to have studio monitors because of the 'air' moved around by the cones, and the headphones only for monitoring the execution and to listen the reverb tails...
Just fairytales? :D
***** No I wouldn't agree with that. Remember that headphones are speakers too - they have cones and voice coils etc, it's just that they are in extremely close proximity to your ears. So headphones move air just like studio monitors, it's just that they operate in an enclosed acoustic environment at a fixed distance from your ears, so the influence of the room's acoustics is removed.
It *is* possible to mix/master entirely on headphones, as long as you have some way of checking the results against something that you know to be of good quality.
In fact I was thinking that way too,but since I'm no expert in recording,I've never had the guts to reply...
So a good pair of headphones is enough to mix/master even without something to compare with?
I assume that for 'something of good quality' you mean a nice falt stereo or amplifier/speaker?
Bruno, I need your help! I have an old pair of Sonys mdr v600 I bought a long time ago. Do you think I would gain anything in sound quality,(my primary consideration) by getting the 7506? I listen to heavy rock, Led Zepplin, Ozzie, Stones, Jethro Tull, ect. I also listen to classical about 20% of the time. Money is not a factor & I do not own an amp. However, I would buy one if needed w/ the phones you suggest. I only listen to music at home. Also educational cd"s but I can listen to them on anything. Thanks, I hope a response does not take much of your time.
Hmm, only you can really answer that question! The choice of headphones is an intensely personal thing, especially when choosing a pair for listening to music, where accuracy is not as important as overall enjoyment and engagement with the music. I would say that there are far better headphones for listening to music than the 7506s - they are a very old design! I suggest trying some of the newer offerings from Sony and also other companies. Buy what you like the sound of, not what other people tell you to buy :)
Thank you, there is no place here to try before you buy, therefore I guess I will take a chance on whatever I buy. I got the Sony ma900 from Amazon. Listened to them & sent them back the next day. They were no headphones for rock, maybe elevator music. My mistake was as you said listened to some kid who made a video about them. Thanks for your reply. You are very precise, great videos.
I have big (size) ears - would a beyer 790 do the trick? And, is there any good wireless out there for big ears?
The Beyers have pretty large earcups but the only way to be sure is to try them on yourself. The ultimate solution of course is to use in-ear phones rather than over-the-ear phones.
Спасибо за отзыв!)
Василий Садовый Thanks for watching! Spasiba!
Good video.
One main issue that I have is... dude.... just change the pads on the sony!
I mean... common man... you can find hundreds on ebay, leather, all types of fabric, whatever... not hard to find more comfortable replacements.
- Agreed - the earpads on the Sony definitely could use an upgrade. However, at that point you are no longer reviewing the product as supplied by the manufacturer but reviewing an after market accessory. This is an important distinction, especially for high-volume users like recording studios.
true
where can i get the 7506 in singapore
Contact nicholas@thesoundsmith.com.sg Tell him you Bruno sent you :)
I heard that the beyers have issues with channel imbalance. Did you experience the same?
Not in my experience, but I've only owned three pairs of Beyer headphones - not exactly a large sample size!
for general listening from rock to classical would should i buy mdr v6's or mdr 7506's because i like sony's please reply
Ron.
Ronnie donnie That's a good question. The V6 is a much older design than the 7506, which itself is over 20 years old. They apparently use the same drivers, possibly with a different magnet, which suggests that they should sound similar. I personally have never heard a pair of V6s, having gone straight to the more modern design. Many people would regard the 7506 as the 'professional' version of the V6, but at the end of the day it's what you prefer. I would suggest listening to both and then deciding.
Thank you but can on only get on amazon as a live in the u.k. can not try and compare may win v6's on ebay , you see i'm 46 i remember the v6's from 85 etc like sony 80's 80's seperates and the red and gold 'digital' also like the blue 'profesinal' 7506 think ill get both
the new bluetooth or reg new mdr meant to be better but love the old design cute but hard looking like a bauhaus wassily chair, thank you for reply.
meant 80's and 90's seperates
Ronnie donnie Well getting both will certainly give you the most options if you can afford it ;) Hope you enjoy your new headphones!
Thank you, ill put money aside but yes v6 for home seperates and 7506 for outdoors to impress, lol yes like rave dance anything except opear and jazz friend has naim system rell sub and bid old b+w 901's he said chesky recordings are good but unfortunitly we need to make do with mainsteam recording done god or bad although some like norah jones are good and beatles but aimed at people who apeachate good music!
Thank you for reply from oasis whatyever to nightcore mozart , mozart eddie cochran eminem jhonny cash etc
Hi bruno so the DT 250 are better for mixing and Eq well i´m a Dj producer on the trance scene, o you recomend me the Dt 250 or Sony ones?
Thanks you for your video and god bless your person and all you family too bro.
+marko esteban Romero If you are going to be mixing on headphones I would definitely choose the DT250s, the Sonys are not flat enough IMO to use for making decisions on balance and EQ. Having said that if you are mixing dance music you might want to see what headphones other artists and producers are using, as this type of music has very specific tonal requirements that might be best evaluated by using headphones that are voiced in a certain way.
+GLB Productions i currently have ath m50x would you recommened the dt 250 for me, when i don't like the sharp highs or bloated bass of the m50s
alvarg Yes the DT250s will definitely keep you happy if you are looking for a flat, neutral sounding pair of headphones :)
+GLB Productions but im worried ill miss the bass
GLB Productions tried the dt250s didn't like them ended up getting the dt 770s
What mic you using?
Beyerdynamic MCE72 :)
@@GLBProductions Very nice!
If you could have only one headphones which would it be? Sony MDR 7506, Beyer 770 Pro, 250 Pro, Audio Technica ATH M50, or some other?
It would be the Beyer DT770s.
GLB Productions Thanks! I need them for sound mixing, video editing, plus a bit of recording. Should I consider maybe the 990 Pro Open Back?
Miroslava Golubovic Open back headphones are generally not used for recording because the open back allows the recording mic to pick up whatever is being played through the headphones. The 990s would be fine for mixing and video editing.
Can you put Beyer pads on the Sonys?
I haven't tried but you can get aftermarket velour pads for the Sonys.
Yes you can, it is actually one of the most common mods done to the sonys. Look up videos on youtube of people doing this mod.
Can we use sony, for making call on phone. Does it comes with microphone
Not this model.
Compared to Beyerdynamic DT990 250 ohm to DT 250 which is better?
The 990s are an open-backed headphone (they allow ambient noise to enter) so they are completely different designs.
@@GLBProductions Would the Sony Headphones be good for Djing?
@@africangodman6145 They are closed back so they could be used for DJ work certainly - whether they would be good for that depends on what you want in a DJ headphone. Over the years I've learnt that headphone choice is very personal and you really can't generalize about what would work for a particular individual.
@@GLBProductions Thanks for your comment so you said your a live Sound Engineer, that's excellent can you please do a PASSIVE speaker comparison, e.g Peavey vs Wharfedales or EVs vs JBLs. I'm looking for a very good quality 15" speakers as I would like to use them as MIDS as I'm trying to build a SoundSystem here in the U.K, but my budget is £600.00 a pair, thank you in advance, I appreciate you taking the time out to respond to me in your busy schedules, I like your reviews on your videos very informative, clear and precise with background knowledge you have obviously research about. KEEP IT UP MAN 👍.
@@africangodman6145 You're welcome, thanks for watching the videos and supporting the channel. By the way, if you want to get in touch it's much easier to create a new comment rather than adding on to what somebody has asked in the past, because the new comments show up directly on my control panel, the replies tend to get buried.
Got a V6 and modded it to use detachable cable. I find the clarity/flat sound to be enjoyable for casual listening.
Nik Neuy Yes, Sony got it really right with that design, and it's great that they keep it in production.
Sony 7506 are found in pretty much every recording studio on earth. I have 4 pair in mine...but I also have a pair of Beyer 250s...you know, for those artists who behave themselves. ;)
Listened both Sony 7506 and 7510 and found them quite very unpleasant listen. Maybe because of my ears, I can hear way too much highs in Sony headphones, so they give me real headache after a while. Nothing like that happens after listening to different models of both Beyers and Sennheisers. They just much better balanced in my opinion.
Headphones are a very personal thing, which is why there are so many different makes and models out there.
tdebug I suggest doing the dt250 mod. The harsh highs have disappeared after the mod and the bass is taken to the next level, well at least for me.
Even in 2013 when you uploaded this vid, the DT250 was an old design - not as old as the DT150 but its not hard to see the family resemblance. The 7506 may well be an old headphone, but nothing in their current range says 'We care about our headphone heritage' : Beyerdynamic is the exact opposite.
Check out the Sony MDR 7510 it may surprise you.
The Beyer DT48 was long before any Sony, which is a copy of Beyer. I use the old DT100.
Yeah those are great if you don't mind the weight.
The Sony 7506 all the way! The price point alone makes a huge difference. The Beyerdynamics are about twice the price of the Sonys but its not twice the heaphones of the Sonys.
Yes, the Sonys definitely offer better value for money. Thanks for commenting!
i Sony MDR 7506 and Beyerdynamic DT 250 . i get it for pawn shop .
the sony i paid 40 canadian dollar and Beyerdynamic i paid 90 canadian dollar
is there an online pawn shop for headphones?
lol I use the dt250 pads on my mdr v6
You find those work well?
GLB Productions they are a hit or miss for some. Fortunately I love them because they are so comfortable and gives the bass on the mdr v6 some more punch.
Очень приятно слушать, дикция хорошая)
Thanks so much for the review (not much those about dt250). I've been listening for 3 days to many phones including hi end and have chosen dt250. They are not popular for mixing and I wonder, why. Because of THD < 0.2 and not < 0.1? Or maybe because they are "categorized" as broadcast phones, not mixing? I dont know. With a bit of EQ correction they get more treble and are just super with all of their detail and balaced sound and punchy but clear bass (github.com/jaakkopasanen/AutoEq/tree/master/results/oratory1990/harman_over-ear_2018/Beyerdynamic%20DT%20250).
The choice of headphones is very very personal: don't worry about what anybody else tells you when it comes to this! If it works for you it works for you - there are certain models that are more popular for certain applications but this is only a general rule. (That link is broken btw)
