Priyanka is a global star and Rajkumar is a star in his own right. Speaks volumes about their character when they agree to star in a movie where they are not the protagonist and someone else is given the entire scope to display his acting chops and run away with the limelight, absolutely stealing every scene and frame. It takes nerve. Which most of the big Bollywood stars will never develop.
And Priyanka is also the Executive producer of this movie.
Agree with your opinion
Agree
Absolutely
Aamir khan in dhobi ghat, Srk in dear zindagi, Aamir khan in secret superstar. You guys are just blind haters of Bollywood.
Hats off to PC and Rajkumar for starring in a film where the younger actor takes away the limelight as the protagonist. Our major Bollywood stars would never have the balls to do that.
SRK in Dear Zindagi tho
@The Charcha Guru and for example, mister?
@The Charcha Guru no, we’re not blindly hating Bollywood, but you are definitely BLINDLY reading between the lines. Have some decency and calm down.
"Yeh! i have made an idiotic and out of context comment against bollywood stars. I am so cool 😁.."
Aamir Khan in Secret Superstar?
Same, the scene where he is signing the papers and his eyes got watered, smiling through his tears..What a performance ❣
That was my favourite part my God like WOOW his performance was beyond the words.
I havent watched the film yet but the way jammy described this scene in this review sent chills down my spine. Literally cant wait to this movies after all the rave reviews this movie is getting. This seems like my kinda movie.
Indeed Gave me Goosebumps
That scene , we have always fell once like this where we know we are fucked hut can't do so just smile and we are too afraid .....
I was BLOWN by Adarsh, he’s young and still astoundingly good at his craft. I am literally praying for him to get the recognition he deserves😔 I hope he and his talent don’t get brushed under the rug 🙏🏽
Even Rajkummar Rao at a late stage in his career is brushed under the rug by almost the entire industry for Kartik Aryan or Siddhant Chaturvedi. Not trying to be negative but expecting anything from the industry to respect talent is a lost cause. Adarsh is amazing though and deserves a lot of success
Outsider male actors in recent years who got "accepted" by the commercial bollywood creators have all been backed by some insiders. Raj and Ayushmann are perhaps the only ones who became the "Hero Hero" without backing and promotions from a gang or production house. Vikrant Massey is still struggling in that respect inspite of his skills.
Vicky became popular star because of Kjo (n nepotism) took him under his wing.
Karthik Aryan (although nowherr close to the rest of them in terms of acting) entered the league only and only because of Sara taking his name on Koffee with Karan.
Siddharth Chaturvedi because of Ranveer and Zoya backing him.
@@baidicsarkar2087 But not as the quintessential bollywood hero. The projects in which they are the leading men, they are still referred to as "content" films. They still can't pull masses into theater (especially single screen) in tier-2 or tier-3 cities unlike say a Simba, Coolie No.1. As Nawaz quoted many a times, the general perception of hindi film hero hero is a fair & handsome good looking six pack abs guy. Unfortunately, that stereotype is not done away with as yet... But certainly improving.
Rajkumar rao’s accent was actually to the point . I have been living in US since last 10 years . South asians actually try to adopt the American pronunciation but it becomes something different . Americans call anything other than american pronunciation as an accent like arabic accent or asian accent . I think u pickup anyone who has lived in US fr couple years would speak like rao did in movie .
I agree. I think it seemed 'forced' due to the inconsistencies in his accent. It changes a lot throughout the movie. Unlike Priyanka's as she is habituated in changing her accent with time & place and maintain it due to her exposure in american movies/lifestyle.
@@epeolatrist1652 it will change throughout the movie as who has acquired accent living outside switch between the accents subconsciously so I think the movie made it more realistic
While Priyanka tells she grew up in US so she will not have inconsistencies with her accent !!!
I switch between Eeraq n airaq... anti n antai ... caast n cast...
similarly I have North Indian n South Indian both accent n I switches subconsciously too... like aunti n anti n so forth ppl need to get over the accent in the global melting pot of a world
@@divyasasidharan2960 I agree with the comments on Rao's accent, even the inconsistencies do come through in real conversations in that way, the only thing that fell a little short was PC's accent. There wasn't a hint of NYC in there, I feel like having grown up in Jackson Heights, she would have same tell tale inflections at least. Difficult to criticise though, the whole film was incredibly engaging.
@@divyasasidharan2960 aaah... Spoke my mind...
I don't understand why accent is so overhyped.
Exactly! I live in France and I have an accent now which is a weird European mix with a touch of Indian pronunciation. So it's somewhere in between. That's why it's quite on point because he didn't sound fully American neither did he sound Indian which is exactly what would happen when you didn't grow up abroad but moved there and lived for a while, atleast for those who are prone to pick up accents.
Some can pick up accents more easily than others and it's okay.
Idk why India is so obsessed with accents or rather making a big deal out of it if you don't sound "Indian enough".
It reminded me of parasite. Priyanka and adarsh were at their best elements.
Priyanka Chopra is the most talented actress in Bollywood
Yes . This does remind me of parasite
I felt the same while watching the white tiger. It is spiritually similar to Parasite but still different as it shows the dark reality of Indian society.
Yeah, it felt a lot like parasite.
Exactly
I wish Adarsh goes to international cinema the same way Dev Patel did, as I feel he wouldn't be given his due in Bollywood and would be wasted in insubstantial roles, much like Ali Fazal.
Ali Fazal is more wasted in Hollywood. In Bollywood he actually got a lot of opportunities. He played the lead roles in fukrey series and happy Bhaag jayegi series

The part where he became an entrepreneur...that transition seemed a little rushed and unconvincing. Wish they could have done and shown that part in a more convincing way

@@pvvv888 And most importany wouldn't Ashok's family, his brother and father use all their resources to sniff him out and kill him. That newspaper headline which says "family of 17 killed or something like that" suggests it was Balram's family from the village
@@nikitamohanan2124 yeah
I choose disagree on Rajkumar Rao's accent. It's well justified. He's not from US. He went from an indian village to study abroad. Any Indian who has a strong US accent should be someone who's either faking (no offense, I'm not against it) or someone who has been there quite a while.
Raj Kumar's Ashok was neither.
I was gonna comment this too
I agree with accent thing...but it seemed like Rajkumar Rao was being held back with his acting due to the language and accent??isn't it??
Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards has only 30% dialogues in English. Language should never be a barrier in cinema especially theses days.
Yeah but that was an american and a tarantino film. people from different countries would want to watch that film. But overe here the only way we can do so is by speaking in eng. Ik its not right but i dont think it would've been no.6 in amreica if it wasnt for the english.

I think they deliberately use that kind of accent as most of the indians end up speaking that accent when they try to copy american accent.
The American accent was necessary for their characters. Pinky studied and grew up in America, hence her American accent.
Also rajkumar’s character also studied in america, hence the hint of American accent
@@baidicsarkar2087 Although the easier explanation for this is that he clearly didn't practice the accent enough ksks, but I think another way to look at this 'cringy' and 'forced' accent is also in his personality...he tries hard to fit in his usual circumstances with his regressive family WHILE also trying to be forward thinking as much as he can be....his character arc goes through a lot of ups and downs but one thing that's for sure is, he was trying hard everytime...to protect himself, to protect his relationship with Pinky and to still maintain his family's image and all.
Well you havent heard Deepika's accent there. Her accent is 10x worse in hollywood films 🤣🤣🤣

Adarsh gaurav might not win but he will definitely get nominated
There's a dialogue in the movie "...don't believe for a second that there's a million rupee game show you can win to get out". The book and the movie showcase an anti-slumdog millionaire reality which is why it makes it so gut-wrenching. Adarsh Gourav is mind blowing! 10 years after having read the book, I'm glad they finally made this movie!
His name has both 'aadarsh" and "gaurav". I mean obviously he'd have that star like quality in him. 😉
Well, going by that logic, KRK should've been a 'Kamaal' ka actor 😂.
JK... Take this lightly please 🙏
@@meghnamohan1037 Ha ha ha! Bhai naam aadmi ki qualities ko complement karein toh koi baat nahi. KRK kamaal ka chewtiya hain. 🤣
My only gripe is that more of the film's runtime should've been spent on Balram's rise to power.
but it's really not about that, it's to expose the darker side of India to whoever that Chinese dude was and how capitalism and the religious and caste-based prejudices have enabled anyone underprivileged to really earn a better salary or rise to power, how ironically in the worlds greatest economy not everyone really has an equal chance but those who use corrupted methods like him to reach that level. It's about what India really is behind all its glamour.

I loved how you noticed the tones of the film. This is something a lot of people don't care about and it really adds upto the theme portrayed by the film.
Yes the subtext, the symbolism and the themes.
I felt a subtle Slumdog Millionaire reference when Balram says 'I was trapped in a rooster coup and don't believe for a second there's a million rupee game show you can win to get out of it'
Being a Netflix worldwide release and marketed well, I hope Adarsh and Priyanka get nominated for Academy Awards in Leading and Supporting Actor categories respectively. They deserve the recognition.

Somehow the movie touched our hearts and souls . As professionals working in rural india, it was like watching ourselves in the mirror. Rajkumar's character had gone to America for studies as he explained, he tried to fit in as well, but at the end he was desi, I believe this left some traces of American accent in him and in that sense, rajkumar perfectly delivers and believable.

Yes the story is set in India but technically it is an American film. Just like how Slumdog Millionaire is considered a British film since it was produced by "Pathé" - a british film production company.
