i guess I am pretty off topic but does anyone know of a good website to watch new movies online ?
as a marvel fan, I think this show is one of the best things that marvel has done in a while and the outfits are so good
I like every single one of the outfits
Im not a marvel fan and have only watched like 3 marvel movies but I still really enjoyed WandaVision.
yeah I know wandavision's my favorite thing they've done so far
I was watching it with my parents and they were cracking up over the outfits and sets. They were born in the mid-fifties and have watched many of the sitcoms the episodes were based on.
@@Mothman_In_a_T-Pose that sounds really cool, it must have brought back many memories for them.
Elisabeth Olsen is actually wearing one of those pointy bras in the 50s episode, isnât she? Thatâs a really nice detail faithful to the period, especially because it is so often left out of movies taking place in the 50s.
I think youâre right! Really shows how much care was put into this
@@lania0637 I havenât actually watched the show yet, but Iâll take your word for it:)
Yeah, I watched and audibly went "is that a bullet bra?" My dad and my sister looked at me weird.
@@just-trying-my-best-everyday if not a bullet bra, maybe a cross your heart style- they were also pretty popular. And theyâre super comfy! By far the most supportive bra Iâve ever owned (which matters when youâre a G cup), yet thereâs no underwire at all.
Amazing!

The fact that you couldn't even use the word pregnant (a medical term) is INSANE. Censorship back then was so so misogynistic. The natural curve of a woman's butt is somehow shameful and the same bellybutton she shares with men is unacceptable but only on her, how sad is that.

I was like "who tf is wendy ellen?"
Censorship rules didn't allow Lucille Ball to say she's pregnant? That's fucked up
I mean, it was also the era when women were expected to stop working when they got pregnant and to just become stay at home wives if they could afford it đ€·đżââïž
That's how the famous "we're 'spectin" (expecting) came to be
Lucille also owned her own studio, so she had a lot of influence between her and her husband

"the real world, ewwwww" truer words have never been spoken
Yes so true đ€Łđ€Ł
agatha's character in the show is based off of this old witchy character in the comics, which is why the colors and patterns she wears are usually dark (with blacks and purples) and why her silhouettes can at times be a bit dated
TBH the original comic book Earth-616 Agatha Harkness was seriously a rip off of the OG Disney Cinderella villain, Lady Tremaine. The bouffant graying hairstyle, the perpetual scowl, the purple leg-o-mutton dress, the cat named Scratch (a nickname for the devil)--all of this is a blatant ripoff of Lady Tremaine (whose cat was named Lucifer).
Which is still simultaneously super duper classic, even if it's a ripoff. Plus, Disney owns both, soooo
although I completely understand why you left the Halloween episode out, I'd like to point out that their costumes in that episode are Halloween costume versions of their respective 90s marvel comic superhero designs, which i think is a nice touch, much appreciated by marvel fans.
The Halloween episode, which is actually set in the 2000s, has Agnes wearing a Juicy Couture tracksuit in the intro. Iconic.
this is like a very obvious thing (because red is wanda's colour, her magic/costume is red, she's scarlet witch...etc) but I loved all the red incorporated into her wardrobe! and the green/yellow in vision's clothes. i thought it was really well incorporated without being too comic book-y with the one assigned colour and costume (obvs not counting Halloween costume, which was super cute).
oh, i didn't notice that!! the one about vis' green & yellow, so that's why that's the color scheme for his sweater once they transitioned to color... ohhh.. awesome spot!! i appreciate ya sharin it! i'll now pay closer attention to vis' clothing once i finally rewatch wv again hahah thanks!!
also i think wandas outfits were good from a plot and narrative perspective as well because she always wanted to be in just an ordinary happy idealised life with vision, just like a sitcom. it perpetuates the idealised housewife of the 50s to the moms of the 80s in a completely typical way, which is how she always wanted to be seen
Mayes C Rubeo, the costume designer, deserves ALL of the pay raises, accolades and awards for successfully replicating the style of each classic sitcom era! đđŸđđ
This is SO fascinating. The note at the beginning about using accessories and textures and such to help differentiate characters in black and white sitcoms really makes so much sense. During the pandemic, I've been watching a lot of old black and white films and have quickly realized how much I usually depend on costume and hair colors to differentiate characters. It can be really hard to figure out who is who sometimes when you don't have any color to help you out!
its so fansinacting!! i wish more stuff was shot in B&W nowadays lol
I love sitcoms, marvel and fashion so it's a win win situation for me
So basically WandaVision followed fashion trends from the 50âs all the way up to the 80âs better than most shows and movies youâve rated? I actually didnât hear u complain about the fashion being to modern one time. Think WandaVision deserves a round of a plaus for that đđ»đđ»đđ»đđ»
AGREED
It is a crime that we seem to have no trace of an image of blue Vision from those black and white episodes #ReleaseTheBlueVisionCut
If you have Disney+ (which I assume as you wouldnât be able to watch Wandavision otherwise) you can watch Marvel Assembled where they show behind the scenes
Yesss, I was hoping you'd cover wandaVision's fashion!

I usually hate the 80's fashion but the show did it so aesthetic pleasing, btw mom's jeans seems so comfortable far better than low waisted jeans.
Omgg no the 80s outfits where the bestđđ
It looks like they're wearing bullet bras in the 1950's episodes. They could have easily overlooked that, but getting that pointy silhouette made the costuming seem more authentic to me.
There's also the non-sitcom part in Salem in 1693 and that outfit Agatha has for that part is spot on.
Ikr she really pulls that look off
Honestly the hat is just perfection I donât know of anyone else who pulls it off like you do
yes!!!!!
I had no idea the costumes were so thoughtful in this series. They seem so natural to the era they portray. Love this!!!
I have a hunch (maybe more wishful thinking honestly) that Wanda's "pregnant dress" in the seventies episode is a reference to Barbra Streisand's dark red, long-sleeved, and empire waist dress from Up the Sandbox (it's actually what she wears on the poster!). They even have the same neckline and a similar hairstyle! There's a scene in the movie where she wears that dress and has a dream about suddenly becoming pregnant; it plays a lot like that episode of Wandavision. It's a long shot because only about three people have seen that movie, but there are so many similarities that I can't help but wonder!
Barbara Billingsley wearing high heels to be taller than the kids is the funniest thing ever.
This is probably fully intentional, but I noticed that the description of Wanda's makeup at 3:15 is exactly what you're wearing on your own face. It's a nice detail!
I am a minimalist and owns very little clothes, yet it feels so fun learning about fashion from you!
Same
my great aunt was mary tyler mooreâs wardrobe stylist for most of her TV career! I love seeing her work pop up around the internet :)
The costume designer did such a brilliant job and I love the homages to all the classic sitcoms at the time
Props to the costume department on WandaVision; they clearly did their research on era-appropriate sitcom fashion. This show must have been so much fun to work on as a costume designer to get to play around with so many different fashion periods.
my two favorite things right now: fashion analysis and wandavision
I laughed so hard when the real world being disgusting clip came up
This makes me so happy to know that the whole showâs outfits are historically accurate
5:45 Commenting again for the interaction. I'm an in home geriatric nurse so my patients are exclusively people who were alive and usually married by the 1950s. Many of my patients were housewives in the 1950s and yes they did dress nicely and did wear makeup daily. They wouldn't leave the house to go grocery shopping without having hair and makeup done. Hair was especially easy since they went to the salon once a week or so to get it styled. They had house dresses that they wore to clean in and they always made sure to be put together by the time their husbands got home. of course they weren't vacuuming the house wearing high heels but that doesn't mean they weren't put together so if a neighbor stop by, like people often did without notice, they would still look nice and presentable you don't have to be wearing high heels and pearls to look nice and presentable. It was just expected. Sure there were some who didn't but that's in the minority from what I've seen. They had a routine. For example floors on Monday laundry Tuesday dusting Wednesday meal planning meal prep and grocery shopping Thursday ect. I advise everyone to talk to their elderly relatives and ask them about their life and what it was like living in the 1950s.
Well, I am Russian and all my relatives who lived in 1950s were trying not to die from starvation or get in the concentration camp after WWII... My grandgrandmother was kicked out of her house with two children after her husband died, so she built the dogout with her bare hands and they lived there for two years! In Siberia!
No shade, I am really happy that this horror ended and that there were people who lived a happy and wealthy life in those times.
@@mantolinez wow that's so interesting but also very sad! What a strong woman your grandmother was! Have you considered writing their history down so others can read and learn from it? I would love to hear more about what life was like for them! The true inner strength they must have had to survive is mind blowing. They had spines of steel back then
That fact about how a lot of older TV shows never had a costume designer was really interesting to me! I wonder if shows with a really obvious aesthetic (i.e. Designing Women, Blossom) were made with the actors' clothing?
A lot of these sitcoms wouldnât have a costume designer but they would have a wardrobe stylist who would put outfits together based on who the character is. Prime time soaps like Dynasty had a costumer designer, Nolan Miller, who created these opulent extravagant gowns and dresses for the show that they became as much a character as the actors themselves. One show I know that didnât have a designer was the original Degrassi because the characters would wear their own clothes to make it seem more realistic to an actual junior high/high school.
"i'm not a huge marvel person" but you are a huge MODEL person CONGRATS ON GETTING SIGNED TO IMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! đđđđ
I havenât been this early since Pietro was still alive
The 70s looks for Wanda and Monica were incredible, and by far my favorites of the series.
Why do you look like Disneyâs Snow White? So cute.
oh. i never really thought about the ideal 1950's housewife vs what actually probably existed, ie the comment about them barely having time to run a comb thru their hair during the day. i'm a kind of femme presenting enby who works part-time & has a step kid & i dunno why i thought that we were so different in that aspect. my partner & i share house work and payments and i barely feel like i have time to put time into my looks & this made me feel better? gosh, sorry for the rant but i figured it was good for engagement.
no I get this! that aesthetic is in a way still kind of sought after today and itâs nice to know it only minimally existed in the first place considering how unattainable it is
I mean we have time for that even though we work. Maybe we donât always bother and some never (and certainly during Covid) but it can be done just fine with routine. And housewifes didnât just stay inside the whole day either.
I absolutely LOVED this show! The attention to detail, changing the entire film style depending on the time, it's gotta be one of my new favorite shows, if not my favorite in general. As a film student, I appreciate their dedication so much. Thank you for covering this show! I almost started tearing up lol. I adore you!!

My favourite outfit is the red tights 70s look thatâs only in the intro but thatâs just because I have a particular reverence for 70s style. But as a guy I would wear literally everything Vision has in this show
I loved the series for it's exploration of grief through the optic of a nearly omnipotent while also very human character. The fact that they also did it while paying homage to sitcoms through the decades and being quite accurate was great. I was waiting for the video since I found your channel đ . Opinions on her superhero costume from the finale ?
i read an article theorizing that the material on her top seemed to be very similar to vis' costume, as well as the color of it as well (closer to vis' skin than the shade of wanda's prev costume) and that wanda made it so, so that in a way, vis would be with her always...
also, fun fact: lizzie actually contributed feedback on the design of it so that it'd be functional, so it was designed so that she could move all the ways she needed to move... (and also, she finally got her wish of not showing that much cleavage heheh huzzah!! hahah
@@verbimu yes !!! I picked up the similarities between the materials from the posters ! (Also, the mind stone shaped cut out in her neck line).

That part about how tv execs from the 70's would buy rather than make the clothing for the shows is interesting. I wonder if that's why in the credits for shows in this era you often see wardrobe by rather than costumes by.
I am HYPNOTIZED by your hat! It's exquisite!
The details (especially in the 50s episode) were so absolutely gorgeous, right down to the bullet bra and girdle! I just wish theyâd done her hair a /little/ bit neater, it didnât seem to be fully brushed out and was a bit too stiffly curled. I think it should have been smoothed out more, or even if theyâd gone balls-to-the-wall and given her the Lucille Ball poodle updo!
Living for the fact that you went âwe have to mention the menâs wear inspiration Annie Hall produced, but we will be censoring that manâ
I'm not a huge fan of Marvel but out of the few films I've watched Wanda is one of the characters that I got invested with the most. I have Disney + now so I think I should watch it also because of the amazing outfits đ
I loved this show, i can't believe it was Marvel who did this and the movies from the mcu. Elizabeth Olsen did a stunning job with her acting changing with the decades while preserving the essence of the character. The costume department deserves all the awards
Iâm surprised you didnât mention the bullet bra! I mean... look at her silhouette!
Yes please, thank you for breaking down these iconic styles!! It really helped me get more engrossed on the show itself.
