Same set up I have..but mine is made out of metal square tubing..I been a welder for 17 years in structural Bridge for the state if Texas also welded for the oil field manufacturing battery tanks, heater treaters vessels and water separators all requiring x ray code welds..so fabricating a simple frame in a field of my expertise is why I chose steel it's what I'm comfortable working with..but mine is a single post with support brace like you have there and I welded 2 pulleys to guide my cable..works great..winch and pulleys I purchased on Amazon spent less than 50 bucks and I had pipe laying around..hope 2 hang some deer next season..
Oh that’s awesome, I’ve wanted to learn how to weld to be able to projects like that! But it does work great, thanks for watching and good hunting!
Good job!
Thanks!
Well done.
Thanks! Thanks for watching!
Just a thought but if you made that winch easily removable with a nice size carriage bolt and piece of garden hose you can make a drawboard for bow as well. Average jack has video on that. My next project
I actually have another winch with the cloth strap in a box ready to build that exact draw board haha. Just need to find the time to do it!
Do you lag bolts to connect 4x4’s at the top? If so, what size? If not, how did you attach them? Thanks!!
It’s been awhile since I built it, but I think I had 5” bolts and I pre drilled them. For the diagonal pieces I used 4” screws.
Hey, I’m trying to build the same set up in my backyard. I would like to know everything about this set up
Thanks for watching! Links to material are in the description and details of the set up are described in the video. Is there something specific you have a question on?
About to make one myself what size screws did you use and hows it holding up now?
I used 4” screws and toenailed them in on both sides
Very nice. Did you put all boards together before you cemented it in the ground?
No, I cemented the two posts in the ground and then got on a ladder with the top piece and toenailed it in and then added the support braces leveling at each step
What size bolts did you use to mount the winch onto the 4x4? 3/8s 5inch?
I can’t remember specifically if it was 3/8” or 1/2”, but they were 5” long! I think either diameter would work
So I double checked, I didn’t put a bolt all the way through, it looks like I used a 1/2” x 3” galvanized screw. I used 3 of them.
Nice. Can you make this same setup by not have it in the ground with concrete? Would like to be able to move it😊
You could maybe create a concrete base for it to sit in, like concrete in a 5 gallon bucket or something like that. But I would be afraid it would not be stable enough when you get your deer hanging up.
Curious about actual height needed? I mean I guess the height of this one would handle elk/cattle sized animals but could be overkill for just deer and hog skinning.
Yeah I wasn’t positive of what I really needed, but we had those posts leftover and figured to just make sure we were not too short. I also wanted to be able to get it up high enough so you were not having to bend over much to get any part of the animal
Yeah I hear ya not wanting it too short. Definitely need to put up something similar. Thanks for sharing.

When the pullies fail ( yes they will ) get bigger ones then put them back and get next size up. Cover the winch so the dirt doesn't get in it and grease , grease , grease marine is best.
Thanks for the advice, I will keep that in mind for sure. The pulleys were smaller than I expected, but they seemed to work alright for now! Thanks for watching
@@ZManOutdoors they will fail, ours did the axel bind and break or jam. Ours did, way they are set it only 2to1 and they find sand like a magnet.
Good to know, thanks for the tips!
Thank you, that’s a really good idea, I’ve had issues with them swinging around. I was thinking about putting something in the ground so I could still walk around it easily. I’ll have to test out some options and see what works best, but I may end up just doing what you said here! I’ll probably do a follow up video once I test some options out
@@ZManOutdoors Had one hung up and pulley broke after I washed it off of course
I would throw a concrete pad under besides that it's perfect
Yeah that’s a good idea, the crushed granite we put down didn’t work as well as I hoped. May end up adding a slab eventually!
What’s your dimensions on game hanger?
I don’t have them off the top of my head, I think it was 8-9’ tall and about 6-7’ apart. I will be out there in a few weeks and can get actual measurements if you would like?
