If your room is lit very well, the keyboard lights do NOT turn on. They only turn on when the ambient light is low. Once they turn on, you can manually adjust the brightness in the settings > keyboard > keyboard hardware menu.
are there some other alternatives?
I’m don’t like the new aluminum hinge. It makes scraping noises when I move it on a table

Yes. Both the new iPad and the new keyboard are lighter than the previous generation.
Tested the Apple MK vs the ESR.. I kind of like the ESR for several reasons... Seems far more protective on the covers, the light color on the KB is selectable or does it's random color changing. I like the top flap that both secures the pencil and the iPP. It was only 109 bucks.
Hinge design similar, but also does not have the top row of function keys. The weight of the ESR is about 850 grams but that accounts for a larger battery and the extra pad, foldover pencil flap. Charge time from dead is about 2.7 hrs. Battery expectancy is supposed to be about 2 weeks. We'll see.
I like the Apple MK too. Going to use them both but one is going back... Honestly I like the ESR Rebound a bit better just because it seems to have more protection for the $1000 IPP 11 I just bought. I see others buy a bag for their IPP 11, basically a IPP 13" bag in order to fit the MK and 11 iPP.

Cleanest looking Apple device I currently have. That or my MB Pro in Space Black.

It's rumoured that they're finally adding the calculator app in the new iPadOS. I'm very interested about how they're going to announce it at WWDC like it is something revolutional
it‘s embarrassing that the new MK only works with the new iPads.. i have a M1 iPad Pro and would love to buy the new MK, but i‘m not gonna spend another 1200€ for the new iPad to use the new MK.. embarrassing Apple!
you'll get a good 275 for the old iPP... the new one is 3x better.. it goes to M4
Don’t touch the screen with the keyboard attached because it will tip over. THAT’S why you shouldn’t buy it. The hinge design in the back is round not flat making it easier to tipping your $1,000 iPad.
