      If you’re doing an outdoor grow
      You can do sealed and drop carbon (as the plants get bigger they’re gunna need more carbon. This is a f’cking hassle)
      Or just have airflow in the greenhouse by 6” by 6” hole this will get you a constant 400 ppm carbon
      The suns linens far outperform any LED’s if you’re growing under the sun carbon isn’t really that important especially if you live next to a bush street with cars

      You can seal your room very easily with plastic tape and large plastic tarps, i sealed a room like that so well that when i turned on the exhaust fan the plastic tarp on the walls started expanding into the room as if the walls were closing in on me lol.
      It was a freaky but cool expiriment with great succes, just make sure you have enough air input or else it will draw air from small cracks and crevices which can suck in insects and molds from the walls or outdoors

    High try to keep my CO2 ppm between 700-800 in the lung room, don't like it going over 800ppm, that's what the plants get. I guess it depends on your CO2 source. Around here, tank rental is $1/day, CO2 is ~$60-80 for a 20lb refill and that would last me like two months. So I'd be looking at maybe $700/year? That's more than it would cost to double my lighting.

      Where are your bugs, in the medium or on the plant?
      To kill plant bugs by co2 you’ll be wasting a shit load. To kill soil (bad) bugs you’re better off just using carbonated water… or for better protection - Hydrogen peroxide. But note, HP will kill your “good” bugs too. That also applies to co2 - the amount you need will also kill the good bugs too (if you have any)

    • @freedom_born

      You can also use the HP as foliar spray (prevention/pest maintenance), cos it has an extra oxygen atom that expands the/any bug and eventually kills it. A good ratio to start with is 30ml HP per 500ml water. 3day application rate recommended - further if needed.

Different yeasts/temps/sugar levels will react at different rates and produce more or less CO2 per day. Faster acting stains of yeast/higher temps will produce more CO2 but use up the sugar quicker. I would recommend a champagne yeast because they aren't too fast and they can handle a high alcohol environment, which means they will remain active longer in the bottle, will last about 3 weeks of peak fermentation.

    • @freedom_born
      @freedom_born Před rokem +1

      @Tony Wharton
      I noticed you mention that in a comment, i used to do the same - still do sometimes. I’ve noticed four 2 litre bottles will last about 4 weeks in a 4x4, then when they’re running low on bubbles you can top up with bicarb. I don’t add the bicarb until it’s low on bubbles just add 2cups sugar per 2L water (mix sugar in portion of warm water prior, then add to remaining 2L). Wait 5min to cool then add half tspn of yeast… wait an hour and bubbles will start, then gradually increase over the next 2 weeks.
      The usual ppm readings for four 2L bottles averages around 11-1200 for two weeks then drops to 1000 and keeps decreasing for the next 2 weeks to around 600 after 4 weeks. You can add extra bicarb after the 3rd week to increase ppm back up to 1000 for another few days… But it’ll still drop rapidly by the 4th week to around 600.
      This is for a 4x4. The scale remains relatively the same for either 2x2, 3x3 etc.

      I also use tanks when i feel up to refilling them (i refill mine with dry ice) I keep ppms around 1200 on timers - but recently haven’t been using any added co2 anymore, cos I’m semi indoor, so don’t feel the need. Since my lights are basically only on for about an hour before and after sun up & sun down. I’m retired so i just wake up and take them outta the tents into the sun everyday. Bad storm days don’t really worry me cos I’ll leave tents open instead.

      Awesome, I’ve ran a few experiments over the years. On one experiment I had a 2x2 with gas, another 2x2 with a 1gal (4L) yeast bottle, and a homemade 2x2 with no co2 added.
      All same cultivar, same soils, same light wattages (150W), feeds etc… i maxed the gas tent as much as possible, got about a 30% increase in biomass but it wasn’t primo. Because the over absorption of co2 didn’t allow the cannabinoids to fill out the trich bulbs fully. Made everything too fat to fill out. The bottle tent only gave about a 10% increase in end weight but the colas and trich bulbs filled in better and the smoke was better. These were compared with the No co2 tent. For a 2x2 i don’t think it’s really worth it since you can’t push ppf enough for the plant to use co2 correctly. For 2.5 x 2.5 it’ll be a little different… cos you can push a better ppf. Especially with a 200W.
      I also run a 2x4 with two 150W in it with added gas, and that usually pulls a 15% increase on avg.

      I think it’s something like 400 water molecules lost per 1 carbon atom gained… something like that.
      You also lose even more water when the vpd & other factors aren’t correct. Ideally “everything” Has to be on point to maximise co2, and it should match your ppf if you’re generally above 1000. Normal ambience is usually 400-600ppm and regular LEDs push avg 900ppf (coverage*) - for 900ppf, the avg ambient co2 ppm should suffice. Anything higher than 900ppf, you’ll want co2 numbers to match.
      Transpiration rates won’t work effectively if it loses too much water without gaining the same ratio of carbon atoms within the hour(s) it loses water. Hence why it’ll lose water “faster” when everything’s not correct.

    • @thecowman6807

      When you’re losing too much water without replenishing it with the needed ratio of co2 to compensate - then you’re losing efficiency and essentially causing the plant to slowly die.

      *YES* - losing water faster IS a Bad Thing - if it’s not compensated or replenished with the comparative amount of carbon atoms it needs for every 400 molecules lost.
      When you vpd isn’t right the amount of water molecules lost rapidly increases. The scale doesn’t stay the same @400 water molecules lost for 1 carbon atom gained !! You lose even more molecules without gaining the needed carbon atoms - therefore eventually losing even more water by the minute. Cos the carbon isn’t getting replaced fast enough

I do believe CO2 is beneficial throughout the entire grow but I disagree with Bruce about the 30% yield increase. I think it's more like 10 to 15% at the most. Happy growing my friend.

      Hi I'm new to using co2. My ppfd is around 800-980 ppfd. Should I keep my co2 ppm around 1200? Will 1300 + plus ppm become useless? To much mixed infos.

      @Billy Sava Bugbee said the rate of photosynthesis increases 30% at any appropriate PPFD/DLI. He said you won’t get 30% more yield because of the Harvest Index Ratio which is the ratio of biomass to yield. You end up growing more leaves and stems which effects yield. He then used an example that if you increased your biomass 50% your yield would increase 30%. So in his original 30% statement your yield increase would be in the 15% range based off the Harvest Index. So you’re right! About 15% increase in flower.

    I can remember hearing this awhile back from Dr. Bugbee about the up to 30% increase, I introduced more co2. I’ve also found a way to deliver carbon to the plants available mineral uptake factors, is how my armchair scientist is trying to phrase it. I’m just learning about this other method of delivery through working with the rhizosphere. I don’t want to cite the wrong scientist but it was someone who has an in depth life long love with researching the nuances in the biology of botany, who proclaimed that carbon in the soil is just as good.

      Carbon in the soil is good too. But co2 to the leaves helps it push transpiration rates even higher. Cos with added temps and higher ppf/PAR the plant will transpire too much and lose too much water without regaining the same ratio of carbon atoms relative to how much water it loses.

    • @sixmillionsilencedaccounts3517

      Plants don't absorb Carbon from the soil for photosynthesis. It happens in the leaves only with gaseous CO2 via stomata. Carbon in the soil is a food for microbes, not for a plant. If this was true you could simply water plant with sparkling water which is saturated with CO2.

      Nectar for the Gods has something called Aphrodites Extraction which has some carbon in it. Biochar is another form of Carbon in the soil that is beneficial for the overall plant health. I do not know as much as I think I know, and I’m okay with that. After all, life is a very long journey with things to learn along the way. Peace ✌️

      Dry ice is pretty cheap to come by… but you’ll need to rig & refill your own tanks, or you could always sweet talk your local bar or find a good outlet for gas. They’ll charge pennies for refills. I used to have a local pub refill my small tanks for a few bucks.
      Then again, sugar and yeast is cheap asf and that can increase ppms pretty good
