I noticed a difference in pigmentation and tissue VIGOR within hours of initiating UV A (AC Infinity U4) early flower on two subjects. Extremely experienced biocultivator in numerous spheres. Upon Stress testing w the UV A I was able to singe back pistils on both subjects at around 2-3 weeks in. So it definitely burns, but I left on for an extended period (stress test), proper distance, level 5 out of 10, it was able to burn the sensitive tissue mildly and cause a clear and obvious increase in vigor. Take a look at plants in your park in the full sun then take a look at the ones struggling in some shaded area. There you go. it didnt take a pile of NASA grants to deduce that...
The two best authorities on plant lights IMHO.
Remember both are trying to sell you something ;)
i bought 2 spider farmer uva bars and run them for 1 hour a day ,i have noticed the plants are packing on more trichomes than usual so far so good.
Do you use it for a hr mid day?
@@tubinferbass yes half way between light cycle for 2 hours max.
They will get frosty as they age anyway. That’s not evidence, that’s bro science as usual. An expert says they have been shown to do nothing yet you claim they do because you think you noticed an increase. Yikes.
@@ahoyskid I have them on about 1hour a day at the moment,I will increase up to 2 hours,I am in week 2 of flower,I have not done autos as seeds are hard to get were I am from but would like to try , good luck with lights U will fit them in there some how ,I would put them above the leds I 🤔 think if under lights U will block the leds ,I would rather block( shadow) the UV bars than the leds ,👍
@@ahoyskid it will most likely have no effect.
UVA doesn't increase cannabinoid production or photosynthetic activity and it is less efficient at reducing stem elongation than blue light. Okay. So what about terpene production? Isn't improving taste and smell sufficient reason to use UVA? . Shane failed to get Dr. Bugbee to address this question. It's premature to say that it is not worth adding UVA.
If you test it you know it’s worth it ;-)
His latest video on uv
There's UVA in natural sunlight... so clearly, it's meant to be part of the equation. Just because you can't necessarily figure it out... doesn't mean it shouldn't be part of the growing equation.

Mosquitos exist though they serve no role in nature for the most part... Sometimes that's just how it is.
Not saying that UV is good or bad, just clarifying in relation to your comment.
@@seventeen9718 that wasnt a clarification it was a false authoritative statement. mosquitos, like all life forms, fill an ecological niche or they wouldnt be there. OBVIOUSLY. UV lights also obvoiusly work otherwise they wouldnt sell them...I noticed a difference IN HOURS why dont you see for yourself they are less than 100 USD for the primo set (U4 from AC) instead of prophesizing from a POV of never having tried...
@@jakelooter5139 People sell Chinese medicine and snake oil... Of course a company will sell you something if you will buy it. I've studied the actual science of spectrums of light on plant growth and tried UV/IR, but knock yourself out with anecdotal experiences. They're beneficial in very specific situations for very specific lengths of time.. the vast majority of people run them all the time and they're actually a detriment to the plant at that point... Also, the benefits aren't worth the money unless you're trying to absolutely max out, running perfectly efficient with CO2 - which isn't happening with +99% of horticulturists.
All you have to do is watch Bruce Bugbee's talks on UV/IR and you will understand 3/4ths of it.
@@jakelooter5139 I've studied the science for thousands of hours lol. A company will sell anyone anything so long as there is a consumer that will buy it.
@@jakelooter5139 Most people would be *much* better off simply dialling in their environment more than trying to supplement UV/IR efficiently... It's the equivalent of adding CO2.
Spider Farmer UV30 is only $60 for 2 strips . i have 4 hyperlight groplanner 1500 with the uv lights in the midlle . the uv lights come on in the last of the night with 2 hours on per day . lights are on 12/12 in a 5x5 tent with 4 blackberry moonrock from expert seeds grown in dwc 2nd grow done like this . i use blue planet elite 3 part with microbe hydroponics declorinator and photosynthesis plus in my tap water . on average im getting 14-18 dry oz per plant . before the uv30 i was getting 12-14 and the flovors with nothing compared to now , best $60 i ever spent !!
for real these lights cost basically nothing the most expensive AC infinity UV one is like 90, which is NOTHING compared to what we used to pay for even shit metal halides and HPS way back in the day. 20 years ago something around that would get you a parking lot HPS 150 watt fixture at Home Depot for ghetto rigging; lights are dirt cheap now compared to prior no one has an excuse to talk shit without trying unless they are a punk or a square, which I am assuming all the lame azz negative commenters are....
UVB reptile lights has increased terpene production on a 4-week flower that I've been growing for a couple years now that never did that before.. still have five more weeks to figure out what the end result will be..
Two times a day for 45 minutes at the distance of 18 in from canopy top
Did u find it to be useful and noticeable?
one of the Repti Zoo joints? I have one and was going to try maybe...
The bud seems to look like it shrinks a bit under uv and notice that it doesn't matter what bulb or light also noticed you can get similar effect with blurplue leds😊
It works especially like the last two weeks 15 minutes four times a day you will see the snow come on.
Do you break it up through out the 12 hrs or more focus mid day?
@@tubinferbass throughout the 12 hours is best ...
@@tubinferbass I use the Agromax uv plus .
So... why is nobody using it in indoor agroculture besides (some people) in cannabis? Imo same bs as with flushing. Canna bussiness is full of snake oil...
Did you test other schedules ? I do 1h/day it works, but could maybe work better, I will try your schedule (reptisun UVB UVA)
Might not does really do anything for cannabis, but for chillies I´m sure their spicelevel depents on UV afterall Bhut Jolokia taken from India grown in Italy got up to 1.6mio. scuville (in India up to 1.2mio) and Scropio who´s growing them in the californian sun gets up to 2.2mio scuville. Seems like UV intensety does effect chilli plants, growing altitude in California and India could be similar.
keep in mind they might be youtube celebrities but both are squares who probably do NOT and have not smoke tested anything so who cares what they say.,..I will follow some of bugbee's stuff but keep in mind he is a NASA researcher growing for absolute efficiency under harsh conditions ostensibly for "space" LOL but I guarantee you homeboy couldn't tell you anything about flower...it is what it is at least he is dropping some dimes on us but homeboy is a straight up SQUARE
What about UVB?
I'm sure UVB is proven to increase THC.
UVB is even better but those diodes are a lot more expensive than UVA diodes.
@@markyboyb32ifydon’t buy leds, just buy a lizard Uva Uvb lamp does the work
And it's more intense, and cause sunburns and possibly cancer...so be careful with those
@@markyboyb32ify that isnt the issue they burn super fast...
Perhaps UV or IR helps the plant to better resist diseases, pests and prevents mold in the buds? I read somewhere about such a theory. Has such a scientific study been carried out?
I am not aware of any recent studies sorry
Perhaps the added UV spectrum might have a somewhat sterilizing effect on molds (both inside the buds as well as on the leaves such as with powdery mildew) much as how UVC spectrum is used to sterilize certain environments and water. I suspect UVB would have a more striking effect on this than UVA. I can be under a 450 watt mixjoy led panel with added UVA diodes all day with zero visible effects, both on me and probably zero for the plants as well (granted we're talking only a couple jenky diodes) or 3 feet away from a mostly UVB "pure UV" Agromax 24 inch T5 bulb for literally 3 minutes and have a noticeable sunburn later that day.
@@kahalekui uv filters for aquariums rekt algaes, algaes in aquarium are the same problem than fungus on cannabis i think

A: YES OK? BYE
Does UVA increase herms?
Not in my testings
in theory it potentially could, yes.
most things that cause stress in our plants have a small chance to cause herms.
basically if you stress the plant too much, it will respond "harsh enviroment? lets rush reproduction by any and all means"
so, introducing UV later in the plants cycle maybe too steeply, too quickly, would risk herms more than if you introduced the plant at seedling stage.
i would recomment NOT to introduce it during flowering. allthough, if done correctly it probably will not result in herms 9/10 times, also, genetic factors, some strains will herm easier than others.
