It great okay. Really. He sings beautiful. BUT, I hate when male vocalists cover a female artist and change the lyrics so they’re not “the girl”. If the original lyrics say “I’m a girl that makes you feel…” they will sing “ you’re a girl that makes me fee…”. I really don’t understand this fragile masculinity thing. I thought we were so over that 🙄
Well in his case it’s more that he switched the perspective not the pronouns, which is kind of disrespectful to the original work… but he didn’t switch « I’m your man » to « I’m your woman » so there’s totally an argument for some homophobia
You people really get offended over the stupidest things. Of all the male artists out there, Tamino is the last one I’d accuse of toxic masculinity. In fact, he’s said really beautiful things regarding masculinity and femininity in interviews.
He’s done another Lana Del Rey cover (Blue Jeans) where he didn’t change the pronouns.
In this cover here, he decided to change the whole song narrator’s perspective, not just pronouns.
I find it actually more fun and artistically engaging when artists don’t try to do boring imitations with covers.
Be more playful! Change the whole instrumentation, rhythms, narrative perspective!
Make covers into « X artist’s interpretation of Z song ».
