Fabric Shopping in Miami. HUGE FABRIC HAUL! Favorite shops and the ones I won't return to. Part 1/2

- This fabric haul is huge! I mean it's so massive that I had to break it into 2 videos. All of these fabrics were purchased in the Miami area and are from Independently owned fabric stores and some of them were true gems. The fabrics that I purchased include nylon spandex (milliskin), poly spandex, printed mesh, wovens, knits, and neoprene and I share some plans on what I plan to make.
I also share my experiences in these shops - both good and bad - and let you know which shops I will definitely visit again.

I must say I was shocked to hear how much you liked Lex fabrics. It has never been the same since the new owner (who is not the nicest guy) took over about 4 years ago. They use to have much better things back then and the service was way better. We no longer go there. However, I do like the A to Z fabrics in Miami Gardens better than the one in Ft. Lauderdale. The store a little smaller, but the fabrics are beautiful, there is always new stock, and the guys there are always nice. Maybe try that one next time. 😊 Thanks for sharing!

I do not blame you for not going back to Nunez Fabrics. When your buying fabric you pick it up, there maybe a coordinating fabric you want to pair with it. We often walk around with the fabric before we have it cut. That guy was a real jersey. Also, he was disrespectful because he was cussing in front of you.
It was a bit nuts. I can't say I've had an experience like that before. Well, I'm happy ordering my stuff online elsewhere. There are so many wonderful places to shop at.
Hi Mari I see the mesh in a slouchy dolman top cut w using the direction that makes the longest length the remnants used for trimming a bra or tank * the Kwik Sew set is cute think that it feel sooo cool.. * love the double-faced scuba as a reversible collar-less jacket. W raw edges maybe shoulder to hem princess shaping seams like a Dali sculpture. See your haul inspired me. THX

Thanks. I think it's important to be honest with these things. I know that if I went to a fabric store that someone spoke about and had a bad experience or a lot of the fabrics were just "off", I'd be disappointed.
You found some really beautiful and fun fabrics. You are good at thinking of ways to use them too. Sometimes I'll see a beautiful fabric that I love but I have no idea how to use it. Like those amazing mesh fabrics you found. I never would have thought to use them as inserts or on sports bras. Look forward to part two! I love fabric hauls! 😁
Thanks! Sometimes I have a vision, but other times I may get a fabric just because. Those tend to stay in my stash much longer. Tomorrow’s haul is gonna have some very different fabrics and textiles. 😀
Hey Mari. I so agree with you on A-Z Fabrics in Fort Lauderdale and Nunez. For me A-Z was all wrong..They really have declined from what they used to be. If it's one thing I cannot stand to be is HOT!!! I can't think. Now... Mr. Cranky behind the counter at Nunez....you know I can't say what I want to but you I'm there with you. Unfortunately Mr. Cranky's Customer service was highly lacking. However, your french fry and chicken and waffles fabric is a hit!!!! Glad you enjoyed some of the shops and walked away with a good experience or two.
I had a blast shopping, even with Mr Cranky pants. And the food fabric is just so much fun!

Yes! Chicken and waffles is a southern thing. It was a surprise to me when I learned about it.

Love your fabric haul. The peach animal print will would look bri as Tress Belle dress from Ellie and Mac with Bishop sleave hack
I just took a look at that dress. It’s beautiful but it’s designed for 50% 4-way stretch. Unfortunately that fabric doesn’t have it. I do love the idea of a bishop sleeve hack tho!
@@MariSews i did tress belle with French Terry that had 30% stretch- just did size up. But I think tessuti fabrics had lovely free pattern for turtle neck that would look lovely with it
@@InAgatasCottage a turtle neck or even a mock neck would be nice for the peach fabric. It’s a color that I’m not sure I want to be all over my body so a top like that would be nice
I try to never go back to a shop or restaurant if I get bad service unless it is a place where I usually get treated well and the bad experience was a one off.
I’m the same way. If my first experience was not a good one, I don’t return.

Oh, I've got this really bad habit of walking a store twice. Once to pull a bunch of bolts of fabrics, and another pass in case I missed something interesting. It's hilarious how that habit developed and now I can't kick it.

What a load of beautiful fabrics. I would love to see bolts laying out on a table. I’m watching this half of your fabrics here in Virginia but if you do the other half on Sunday I will be down in Florida. We are staying up in the northern part of Florida on the east coast called Fernadina Beach . Visiting family and just vacationing. The place is a small island also known as Amelia Island. We just love it. Next 2 days are going to be some marathon packing as we going to be gone for super long time.

You just introduced me to a new word: gillet. I think a vest is a really great idea for it and i could use one right now. Thanks for the suggestion!
@@MariSews you welcome. Gillets are quite popular in Ireland. I bought neoprene to make one for my self (my is fuchsia/black)

You know, I was right there when you were getting all the food fabric and I'm still cracking up! That guy really was rude in Nunez, wasn't he? And jason was such a trip. I'm with you, I'd go back to Lex again and again and again. Is the teal a peachskin crepe? I can't remember seeing it when you got it. Can't wait to see what you do with that neoprene. Oh, what an incredible experience - let's do it again soon!
I do t think it is a peach skin. It’s not soft like that. I don’t think I’ve had anything like it before. And yes, I had so much fun and can’t wait to do it again.

I’m not sure if it is. It’s actually pretty light. I think matelasse is a heavier weight, right?

It' the Sudley Top by Megan Nielsen. It's a nice pattern because it can be worn back to front.
