Actually clear rain water is non-conductive and electronics / electrical could care less (especially low voltage DC as in an automobile) (this is not the case with low Ph or high acidic water). However, copper and aluminum contacts hate water because it's full of oxygen. It takes several "wettings" but eventually the connector's metal contacts oxidize. Oxidized copper or aluminum when suspended in water is VERY conductive, causing shorts between the contacts - especially bad if one of those shorted contacts is 12VDC. The point is it wasn't the rain *this time* that caused the problem, it was the rain that got into the connector *the last four times* that caused the problem.

@@3DPDK sorry to disagree, but Rain water is not the same as Deionised water. Rain water still contains all the impurities, thus it very much does conduct electricity because of the presence of Ions. So rain water will definitely cause a short circuit. Hence the multiple faults being displayed on the dash as the rain continues to run across multiple contacts.

It's a good idea to have the 2nd van because you've definitely had more than your fair share of van problems. (Boo--not fair) Also, I'm in Wisconsin, USA and I was wearing a Sherpa shirt that someone recognized, so I know Sherpa's famous in Wisconsin.
The moral to this story that I got from it all is ; 'One man's scrap is another man's 2nd vehicle'

We have an older vehicle, too. It was my daughter’s car and took her to 3 colleges/universities. It may not have any monetary value, but it is so dependable and is very valuable to me as a back up car. I agree that your old van has earned its place.

Old faithfuls are sometimes the best faithfuls. Sherpa was a surprisingly calm boy for being stuck so long in a parking lot, not his usual habitat. Glad it all came out well. The hair dryer was genius by the way. It's always so stressful when your car breaks down. Been there many times over the years. 🥰🐾❤
I think all your machines are turning on you. Alexa has been communicating with the red van and has turned it against you and Sherpa. Watch out for any and all machines you come across!😉😂

The red van is so much bigger and looks so much more comfortable for Sherpa. Good to keep second one for back up only. You customized the red van so perfectly for both you and Sherpa. It has so many extras to it and I think looks much more comfortable if you take it somewhere where you need to sleep in at night.
But most of all I hope you keep your home. It really does look nice since you've redone it. And I think both you and Sherpa, especially Sherpa since he's getting older, need a place to call home. He really does look comfortable after a long day of exercise, chilling in his home. Especially now that he's getting older.

I knew an elderly retired mechanic who hated how vehicles changed. He pointed the newer ones with computers and fancy bits and pieces breakdown more often and are the devil to fix. Glad to see you're get the old standby up and running.
I often think about various personalities with whom I would love to sit down over a coffee and chat with. People like the late Sir Edmund Hillary, the late Tenzing Norgay, Everest mountaineer the late Lincoln Hall - people like that. I stumbled on Sherpa when I was watching every possible video about the Sherpa people. For the first time I wish I could sit down with a CZcams personality and just be in his presence for a bit. Sherpa, can I have my people call your people, and maybe we could do lunch some time? LOL. Absolutely adore this amazing dog and his relationship with his human!

I’m still driving my 34 year old Volvo. It starts the first time, every time. I’ll drive it until I lose the engine or transmission and it will RIP as a garden shed in my back yard.

Switching engines or gearbox in a 1990s Volvo is a pleasure and No biggie for any mechanic. If it isn't a rusty wreck then take good care of it. Also a perfect chassi for fun engine swaps so its worth a lot (not in money per se) for a young lad who wants a fun project car. 👌

A couple weeks back my car broke down at one of the busiest intersections in rush hour traffic. A part underneath had disintegrated and it just stopped. Thankfully two nice guys helped us push it off the road (at a conveniently located gas station right. Y the road) and waited 2 HOURS for Triple A to show up. Whew!
So glad everyone is ok and safe. The SherpaVan is wonderful, not scrap at all!
My grandpa had a van just like it in the 80s. So many adventures. So many memories.

So sorry the van is having problems again, I guess better to find out now rather than in the back of beyond with no cell service. I hope it comes back soon and is fully waterproofed. The old van is amazing, I think you must get it fixed as according to Sod's Law that means the red van will not break down and you'll never need it, clever chap that Sod. Can say as someone who has experience designing & testing Ford Transit components for over 20 years that pre 2008 models have way less faults. When manufacture moved from Southampton to Turkey in 2013, it got even worse.
The white van deserves another chance as a back-up. That thing wants to be useful. My Chevy Silverado pick-up has a poltergeist in the electrical system. It works for three months then poops out. The truck works great, but the poltergeist has to leave. Cheers from California.

Petrol/diesel ones are, to a point. "Electric" vehicles are completely. Teslas are the worst. Even the HVAC controls are inside a tablet computer.
