  • Come down to the beach and train your eye to see the treasures that you are looking for when rock hounding! We find an agatized fossil shell right from the start, plenty of fossil bones and petrified woods, and of course agates and jaspers. We include what to look for, where to look for it, and when, for the good time hunting on the beaches.

    Every day, i dream of rockhounding Oregon again. That looks like so much fun to be out there on a gorgeous day looking for all kinds of treasures. You found some awesome bones and shells and petwood and teredo wood. Lol, all kinds of fun stuff! Thanks ,Karen, for sharing and I look forward to seeing some of these in future videos. 🙂

      You should really come back and do some rockhounding! It was an amazing day on the coast, never taken for granted. The beach was very generous and it seemed like the perfect playground for a bit of a tutorial. You know there will be some acid prep and hopefully, fingers crossed, some cool finds inside those concretions. Thanks so much for watching (until you can come out and find yours!) cheers!

    Thanks for taking us along today. It was a bony, and woody day. Interesting stuff along that coast. Those blue/black agates are really pretty. Love to imagine what sea creatures those bones came from.

      Gotta love the boney, woody days on the beach. It was such a stellar spring day too, had to share it! Those blue-blacks are always so cool and the sea creatures that share their memories with us through those tangible finds. I hope to one day illustrate some of them (gotta love Ray Troll but I'd do something a little more old school illustration). Anyhow, I'm enjoying seeing all of your fresh jewelry, thank you for sharing, you are rockin it! Pax Rockona! 😁

I love that you are saying what each one is. I have to have a more discerning eye when I look now and not just pick up all the shiny stuff, lol.

    Missed last night, so had to catch up this morning. What a wonderful, instructional trip to the beach! It really helps to have your eyes find and identify shells, mammal bones, petrified wood, and all those fantastic little gemstones that grace your rockhounding sites. After viewing your video, I had to look over at my pencil-eraser-sized beach agate plucked from an Oregon beach years ago, and exclaim that the little guy needed some similar company. Long overdue for a west coast excursion!! Thanks Karen!

    Sweet Lady, I notice that you devote most of your time to finding stones. I have rarely seen you processing these stones, turning them into art objects or jewelry. I would like to see more such objects and the way you make them. Warm Greetings

    • @OzoneFineArtVentures
      @OzoneFineArtVentures  Před rokem

      Hi Viorel, thank you for taking the time to watch the video. I have made several videos showing how I make both gemstones (like the faceting video for sunstones) and jewelry (like a number of my shorts and a few full length videos) out of what I find or work on in the studio. One reason why I don't have a number of 'maker' videos on the beach finds is that it's illegal to collect those items for commercial use, so all the collecting and those projects are just for fun. There's a great maker's challenge video of a huge beach jasper I carve into an octopus (and of course I keep the spoils, lol), another where I make a lamp from plume agate I found/mined and cut, and another where I pour sand casts from fossil shells. There's yet another where we take a fossil shell through full polish and I'm getting ready to do it again to a recent find so that we can accurately identify it. If you go through the videos, these are easy to find though you give me the idea to make a 'maker' or project playlist. Thanks for the feedback and thanks again for watching, cheers!

      @OzoneFineArtVentures  Před rokem

      @@kellyforest Depot Bay will be fun, ya gotta love the coast going both ways from there. I'd say that, unfortunately, the summer is the 'off season' for most of the beaches right nearby because the sand gets washed in by the changing currents and covers up the gravels. That being said, any beach that has a creek or river flowing on to it (ie. Fogarty, Beverly, Lost Creek, Yachats, Cummins, Bob) will offer at least what the water washes as it flows to the sea. Also, the 'high rocks' that are towards the headwall (cliffs) of the beaches may offer some fun finds, look for fossils at Beverly. All of the locations have very real potential dangers at high tides, actually all tides because of the sneaker waves. Some of the beaches are very short (ocean, little beach, cliff walls) so an incoming tide can trap ya if you're not careful. Watch the tides, listen, don't turn your back to it, and have a super good time!
