Great new video on this product!! Glad MyArcade knows to let you inform their community about the cutting edge news of their new products! Thanks MyArcade and Jon
Very exciting. Getting the trackball and spinner right will make it amazing and very worth the price. Can’t wait for more. Tell MyArcade thank you for letting you show off more 😀
I never understood why companies put speakers everywhere else except the front, so yeah i like that. Man all this Atari stuff is killing my bank account, but I love it .
Cannot wait for this! Love this at they keep tweaking it to make it better and better! Glad you pushed them to send you an update, even if it’s a 3D print
I am so looking forward to his device. And I'm already think if the entire Atari console lineage (2600 to Jaguar) can be played on this device, I'll be the first in line!
Just had a chance to check out the video, looks awesome. I would really like to have one. With the redesign, I don’t see any other retro handhelds beating it. Let’s go GS Go!!!!!
Have you heard if it’s rechargeable or you put in your batteries? If it’s rechargeable how long will battery last until needing recharged? A couple of questions you may or may not have answers too.
Meantime I'm still on the watch for the GSP control pad. In order to fully experience Star Raiders, I feel like I'm going to need a number pad to access the radar and star charts.
I have not been able to watch the clip yet, but the fact that they have incorporated these lines on the side, "ingraved" into the glass, is just a wounder full touch.
This was really cool. And the 3d print is kind of a cool piece of history all by itself. 3,000 years from now, apes will find it in a cave and know how futuristic humans enjoyed Atari games on the go in ancient times.
I've been wondering about this thing ever since your first video about it. I never knew it had an SD card slot and an HDMI port. Damn. That's nice. I'll be all over this one.
Well any update is a good update I suppose, so now it's a GSG and GSP and I'll have to keep tabs on my retailer for a pre-order page. Still waiting on the next firmware update for the GSP though! need me some button remapping for SD card games and more controller compatibility.
Thanks so much for the update. Don't mean to impose, but please keep us posted if you hear anything new, especially the release date as this will be a day 1 purchase for me.
This is a great video. As a fan of the GSP (seriously, ive been obsessed with adding games- I spend more time doing that than actuslly playing), ive been ver excited about the Go since I first saw it on your channel. This vid made me even more excited. I wanted to by HyperMega's new limited edition Atari handheld, but with this on the horizon, i dont see it happening. Speaking of, I would expect to see at least the same Lynx games on the Go that were advertised for the Super Pocket.
I've been salivating over this one since first announced! Trackball and paddle on a handheld?! I play Millipede on the reg while I'm at work on the switch atari 50, but making the jump to trackball has me giddy. Edit: plus I've heard playing some arcade shmup/shooters and a few other genres actually can work surprisingly well w a trackball actually. I think I tried it out w a SEGA master system game one time, pretty neat!
That keypad is easily the most interesting piece of this device, to have 1:1 control options for 5200, Jaguar, Intellivision, and Colecovision games would be a first for a device like this.
I love the attached periferals (ie trac ball and spinner) l. What I would really love is a dock with option for a steering wheel/gear shift (possibly with wired gas and break) or joystick 🕹️ etc...
Everytime a new portable device comes out, I have to ask myself if i can justify adding it to all the others. The trackball, paddle (please be a spinner!) and the number pad really make this an absolute yes. Let's hope they just get those controls, the screen and the internals up to scratch.
Great preview! Have you seen the new Hyper Mega Tech (Evercade) handhelds they announced the other day? They're doing an Atari unit and a Data East unit. The really exciting part is that there's a limited edition version of the Atari handheld that's got a wood grain deco (limited to 2600 units)!
That D-pad looks a lot like the Jaguar's. I would LOVE for there to be a press-in threaded insert so we can screw a joystick into the D-pad for certain games!
Guess my other curiosity is the capabilities of the device. Not expecting it to be a powerhouse by any means though a small spec bump compared to the GSP might give it more wiggle room to do things, will be curious to see.
Yeah it would be awesome to get some Jaguar and Atari ST games. I bet the trackball would be good for point-and-click adventures. But I doubt this thing will be powerful enough for anything beyond 16 bit . . .
Lifting the controls definitely will make this much more comfortable to play. It shows MyArcade is actually putting a lot of design into this. It seems like a simple thing but most smaller companies wouldn't take the time to stop and realize it needed an adjustment.
Thank You for the excellent analysis of this upcoming handheld, Jon! The GameStation Pro is, BY FAR, my most used console (mainly due to all the late ‘70s/early ‘80s arcade ROM’s I’ve added to it) and I have no doubt that the G.S. Go will quickly become my main handheld thanks to the trackball, paddle and keypad.
Hopefully, they make new controllers for their new "Atari game station pro." I wanted that thing , I really don't want to run retro and Arcade roms , with a 2 button and 1 stick game pad , getting tired of buying cheap Chinese emu consoles 😐
It's looking to be a well thought out handheld. The only thing I would hate to see would be their logo on the front being too big. A small nick pick. Maybe different colour schemes could be a thing also.🤔 I've no idea about the internal specs but the recharge series would be nice for this just because of how they have designed it. More than likely it won't be capable to play them but it's a nice thought.
Great to see number pad and shoulder buttons, more like modern controllers! Would also be nice to know what commands can be issued to enable paddle for custom games, etc..
Might sound silly but the HDMI out is a big deal for me. I like streaming my games to my friends so they know what I'm playing. But I also like portables. But when there's a choice between portable or an HDMI device I struggle to pick between the two. Evercade has that issue for me, I've been waiting for a year, for something to nudge me over the edge and buy one. Also FULL size HDMI is a really good upgrade from other handhelds. Micro HDMI or mini, are really fragile and I hate them. This Gamestation Go is an easy buy. Depending on the final price (in Canada), I can see myself just picking this up right after release. I can't wait to try paddle and track-ball gaming.
This is great! Before it was just a proposed device that looked too good to be true. But this dummy model makes it feel so much more real! Yeah, the numpad is really nice, but I'm here for the trackball and the paddle/spinner. The CX30 paddle controllers had a very broad sweep so I won't sweat the spinner. Great video! Couple of questions. Do you think it could turn upside down so if the screen rotates, the spinner would be on the right side and second question does the number pad feel raised so potentially there could be intellivision overlays inserted on top of the numbers?
I doubt it's designed to inverted, but I don't know for sure. The numpad seems to be entirely flush with the rest of the surface, and not the right size or layout to match INTV overlays.
Looks very interesting. The only thing I wonder at this point is the spinner. Being small, I'm not sure how much weigh it will have. If it doesn't have much weight, a paddle controller might make more sense. Looking forward to the next video.
I was already excited for this and now even more so! The changes they made are awesome. I do hope for Jaguar and even Lynx. Intellivision would be great too and I'm sure that is coming since Atari bought Intellivision (not the Amico part thankfully, lol).
Looks nice. Would probably like a cartridge port though like My Arcade did with their hand held NES. And the num pad would be good for Keyboard controllers. Those games get no love.
Funny you make this video because I was just thinking about this thing, recently. Wondering when they were going to reveal more details about it. Hoping that it's good when it finally comes out.
Intriguing! Looks about the same size and form-factor as a Nintendo Switch Lite. Awesome they are including a spinner, track-ball and number pad. I hope they do also include Lynx games. I still have my original Lynx and a bunch of games, but man, does that thing go through batteries like a chain smoker going through cigarettes. Definitely looking forward to this thing when it drops. Hopefully it will actually drop and not become vaporware.
I still think that spinner is going to be hard to use for us righties that are used to playing Kaboom using our right hand for the paddle wheel. Klax for Lynx might be hard to play on it, guess we will see.
You know what's weird? I could see it being fine for games where I need a spinner AND a fire button, but less so for paddle-only (like Kaboom!, as you mention). Brains are weird.
Hey Jon, are you planning on checking out that Hypermegatech Super Pocket Atari version? I know it’s not from Atari themselves, but it looks like another great handheld with arcade, 2600, 7800 and Lynx games.
With that numbered keypad do you think there might be a way in the future of also playing Intellivision and Colecovision? Gee golly gee, I certainly hope so.
A see it good dos it has now trigers? And can you ask your frends, if there wull be 1.4 softwer update to the pro? Just bought one and wanna use ps4 controllers 😨
One thing that bothers me bout this is its backwards. I fire with left thumb and control with right. This is gonna mess me up being backwards than a joystick.
Do you play games on anything beyond the 2600? I can understand your feelings. For me, though if I have a "stick," I like the button on the left, but I can't imagine using a d-pad with my right thumb (which would be required to put the buttons on the left).
Don't really like the arrangement of controls on the left, I think it should be from top to bottom DPad, Trackball and then spinner. A higher DPad would be helpful for people with small hands reaching the shoulder buttons and the trackball being right below would still be usable grasping the controller while moving it with your thumb, ergonomics shouldn't matter much with the spinner as the best way to use it is to grasp it with your thumb anf fingers rather than holding the controller while manipulating it using your thumb.
I hear you. I'm sure no arrangement will be perfect for every user. I personally like the layout after holding it. The spinner/paddle is quite tall, and I feel that placing it anywhere other than at the extreme top would mean it's a bit in the way when reaching things above it.
You know, i am curious about one thing: Is this going to be some true Atari hardware or is this something that could have been prototyped by anyone with an emulator, a Raspberry Pi, the correct controllers, and maybe a Switch sized screen? Will this thing live up to the hype? nuff said?
Put the paddle and trackball on the right and another set of buttons below the D-pad. Option 2 would be to use the D-pad U/D/L/R for the action buttons. Not ideal, but as a righty, it’s too awkward and uncomfortable to play lefty on paddles and trackballs.
I'd asked them about that back in January, and apparently is has to do with sourcing. 4x3 screens are available, but since they're lower demand they're much more expensive, which would in turn drive up the cost of the GSG to the consumer.
They have to use what's being made. No one makes 4:3 screens any more. How this can kill interest with all the other things going for it is extremely odd to me.
@@GenXGrownUp Powkiddy is getting their handhelds under $100 with nice square screens. It's already niche for us old hats, and I'm sure we'd fork over the cash for a proper aspect ratio. It at least looks like their getting out of the prototype stage.
@TroutButter loads of Chinese emulation devices have them and for cheaper than this effort. And I don't want empty lcd screen space with either a horrible background or black. It's what makes the Evercade handhelds look bad.
These things tend to have a very long tail, and it was first announced back in January. So I"m hoping that if Intellivision games aren't already on it, then they can be added via SD.
Great new video on this product!!

I'm still perplexed by the wide screen instead of a more square screen. That's really the main thing that kills my interest in the device.
@@Mechanicoid Just reporting what was reported to me. I'd recommend you contact My Arcade with pricing information they can act on.
I'd be surprised if they didn't add some Intellivision games after Atari's recent acquisition.
These things tend to have a very long tail, and it was first announced back in January. So I"m hoping that if Intellivision games aren't already on it, then they can be added via SD.
Misleading title, that's not a prototype in the traditional sense it's a chunk of polymer
No intent to mislead. I checked with My Arcade and "prototype" is their word for it.
The horror....THE HORROR!
I want Nokia N-Gage emulation
Ha! You've got the keypad for it!
Prison's not so bad. You can carve an Atari out of a bar of soap. Of course, it's shank or be shanked...
I forgot to ask what the screen size is.
Not sure if it's changed, but at CES the info sheet said 7" display.
@@GenXGrownUpThanks.
