Why Frieren & Apothecary Diaries TOOK OVER Anime

- Frieren: Beyond Journey's End and Apothecary Diaries finished their seasonal runs recently and to say I was blown away by both of them would be an understatement. It's been a really long time since two shows really gripped me like this and had lasting impact on me throughout their runs, continually getting better with each new episode. Frieren I already knew was gonna be a banger just based off of the staff list, but I didn't think it was going to be THIS good. A show that doesn't entirely focus on fighting but still has this level of production for its fights is a dream come true and the staff delivered week in and week out. Apothecary Diaries also looked consistently incredible and while it didn't boast the insanely loaded staff found on Frieren(pun intended), the corrections were consistently extremely strong and the combined ambiance with the music was masterful. PLEASE watch these two anime if you haven't it. I promise you've never seen anything like them and they'll leave you asking for more
Thanks so much for watching this video! if you enjoyed it, feel free to like & subscribe! Have a wonderful day :)

The irony about Frieren and Maomao is that one of them understands humans too little and another understands them too much.
That's a really interesting way to look at it.
Wow, well said.
this needs more likes

Underrated comment
This is the power of just writing a story instead of trying to fit into a genre, and having engaging characters treated as people and not just standard roles.
I would argue that this goes BEYOND "Just writing a story."
This is writing a Story with the explicit Premise of NOT making a Popular Genre or Trend. Of making something we RARELY to NEVER see. This is ESPECIALLY true with Freiren. I've read a lot of books, watched a lot of shows, and I can't think of a single story that is a Post-Hero's Journey that is NOT a Sequel. This entire SERIES is if someone skipped the ENTIRE Plot, and made an entire series based on the EPILOGUE! Which sounds insane and shouldn't work at all....except it works AMAZINGLY!!
I've watched both and tbh Apothecary Diaries does not hit me like Frieren.
For Frieren, each character is unique and for such a long time, I see a true hero by action: Himmel. His thought and his decision to help people in everyday life is what make him a hero, not his OP skill like a typical protagonist. And he's still in top pick anime list despite being dead since chapter...1
@@thewatcher62 Well they're very different, as much as they share some similarities. Both tell a type of story you don't see often. However, Apothecary is STILL a type of Hero's Journey story. Meanwhile, Frieren is a POST Hero's Journey, which is FAR more rare.
There's definitely some interesting stuff, but Apothecary is still closer to a Traditional Story, compared to Freiren.
@@TheAyanamiRei well it is writing a story, maybe it's more apt to say it's more show don't tell
I don't know I think I am not the only one that's sick with Iseikai no hate towards Iseikai fans but from love to hate for me now.
The shows aren't good because they have strong female leads, its because they have well written characters that happen to be female.
being female is an important detail to maomao.
@@summerwinter89 Yup! It plays off the cultural context of what being a girl is like in imperial China, and that's the best part. We see the world from her female perspective (as a harem maid, courtesan, etc.) and that adds to the story.
It's not like hollywood movies where the only catch is that "hurr durr this character is a girl and she can do everything a man can do".
@@summerwinter89 IMO, it's important to the context of situation, but her traits can be applied to male character too : resourceful, adaptability.
Exactly. This whole video is man hating.
@@zitronentee but MaoMao being a female is one of the key core for this story. No male character can take her place even with the same trait.
APOTHECARY DIARIES SEASON 2 WAS CONFIRMED BEFORE SEASON 1 EVEN ENDED LETS GOOOOOOOO
It got the appreciation it damn well deserved. I'm so happy seeing an anime I like getting renewed
It doesn't hurt that it has enough content from the novels that it could make 7 full two cour seasons without having to add any filler. 15 light novels have been released - that first season only covered the first two light novels! Season 2 will cover LNs 3&4, and then we think they will take a bit of a longer break because they won't want to go past the manga adaptation. (And the end of LN 4 is a narratively satisfying ending point lots of the questions left unanswered from season 1 will get tidied up cleanly.)
Frieren and Maomao are stories about quiet people with hobbies they enjoy albeit a little too much
We all want to do just one thing that we really like but we're too embarrassed to talk about it because it's probably something childish, instead we just do it and hope for the best!
That's why so many people relate to these two characters.
fr
"This is the power of having extremely strong female leads."
Correction. This is the power of having _legitimately_ strong female leads. Well-written, strong in character as much as any other aspect, and not just female to tick a box.
Only male characters are allowed to be illegitimately strong 🥰
Yup. Plenty of "strong" female leads that are just obvious pandering. Frieren & The Apothecary Diaries however are genuinely solidly written stories with solidly written female characters that don't try to put down others in order to elevate themselves. This is the kind of stuff that people want when you hear them complain about cheap "woke" stuff.
@@QPoily "solidly written female characters that don't try to put down others in order to elevate themselves"
Exactly.
And precisely unlike the comment from echotango above yours here.
Frieren and Maomao are exceptionally well written characters, that just happen to be female.
@@vancomycinb1193 Yes, the male characters in apothecary diaries for example are often very competent, perhaps just lacking the varied experience Maomao has from being brought up in a brothel and having learned from her adoptive father who is an excellent physician who himself has collected a wealth of knowlegde.
The funny thing is that I can see Frieren and Mao Mao becoming BFFs in like 2 seconds.
Frieren: I can grow a flower field.
MaoMao: Mm... Go ahead.
Frieren: (creates a patch of earth covered in various flowery plants just for the sake of demonstration)
MaoMao: Wow! This is poisonous if digested! And this is poisonous if extracted with alcohol, then purified and distilled! This is so cool!
Frieren (makes her silly elf face, like, "whatever"): I'm glad you liked my spell... I can also select the species of flowery plants i can grow, so...
MaoMao: You're my BFF already.

Kinda cool to see two different anime with fans discussing how both their favorite shows are awesome rather than comparing which is better. Im more of a fantasy person, but boy , The apothecary diaries got me glued too. Happy to have two great shows to watch at the same time (goodbye frieren Fridays tho 😢)
As well as Apothecary. Why must they end season at the same time
@@toxicdermyillunary4103 We enjoyed it together, now, we must suffer together comrade 😭
I think that's mostly due to the fact that the fans of one will also be the fans of the other. Like me. I enjoyed both anime tremendously. The female leads were great, but not in the current Hollywood fashion of "we need to show how any trans-lesbian pronounce-confusing woman can whipe the floor with men just like any other man"-way, but in a completely normal way without any ideological agenda.
They were strong characters that were strongly written that happen to be females, which added flavour in a contextual level, but not by forcing and overtly showcasing feminism as the theme. It's their story that counts, not their gender.
While not action-packed shounen, it was a really compelling view of a world where the lives and characters of the MC's and their bonds with other people stood central, within a certain theme - the endless passing of time with Frieren, and the fleeting life of a commoner with Maomao.
And, may we also say: both anime were visually stunning. Truly one of the best I've ever seen.
@@AniMageNeBy well written anime attracts fans both left and right. Look at the emperor character he has a harem yet our proto-feminist MC respects him because he is a good father who deeply loves his children he also shown to have the strong female former consort now friend that had circumstances been different would have been empress and his two favorite consorts are each strong women in their own way.
Frieren and Apothecary Diaries have set a high standard for future anime. I am hoping their popularity will mean more good anime of this quality.
The power of toho animation.
We already having bangers this month too..
I liked freiren, but I'm absolutely in love with maomao. Both series are great and a breath of fresh air!
For me Frieren is a better series and Maomao is a better character.
@@Master10k2 I agree but I think they're both great characters.

@@jnieto490 i'd read the manga of both animes and it just gets better trust me
Same. The apothecary diaries will be back in 2025 though
Yesterday I ordered the first 9 manga books of Apothecary Diaries...I am weak and don´t want to wait for season two....the books are in english as it´s not available in my native language, but still....few of those books will cover things that were not in season 1....
And for me it was the same, but it was Frieren Suturday and Diaries Sunday

Frieren friday and sunday diaries kept me sane during my exam month .I want them back man😭❤️
That and Thursday Meshi too! But at least that is still ongoing.
@@arvinsim I love that anime because it pays really good attention to details, everything that happens on screen makes sense.
Except for that one shot at the frog staircase where they drop their weapons and seconds later when they scream they suddenly have weapons in their hands, only to loose them again after that one freeze frame ends. Unforgivable.
Insanity is the natural state of the world, my friend. It's neccesary to get used to it.

If you haven't yet give Saiunkoku Monogatari and Juuni Kokki (The Twelve Kingdoms) a watch! Both are fantasy historical and character development is amazing
@@Nikokami Ah yes, the Twelve Kingdoms. Very good anime, albeit an older one. Glad to see someone else having watched that.
I'm even surprised someone else mentions it; it's fairly unknown, certainly with the young folks.
The special thing about both anime are that they don't really fit into any of the stereotypes of their respective genres. Both main characters are natural and well fleshed out and nothing they do ever seemed "forced". I really loved frieren because it reminds us of the importance of having human connection. And it was not forced, frieren learnt it on her own on her journey. Apothecary diaries is about Mao mao who despute was pushed into undesirable situations, never really complained much and still continued to do what she loves. And the romcom is more on the comedy than the romance. Because even if maomao started to like Jinshi, there's no way she would give up her love for medicines and poisons for him. Which is very practical of her.
I always knew frieren and apothecary diary gonna blow anime community when I read them in 2020
I thought opposite though. Back when I first read it during the quarantine era, it was a peak of Isekai anime. I remember it being like 6-7 Isekai anime from previous and current season airing. Since there was no sign that the genre would be declining anytime soon. I expect both anime to a diamond-in-a-rough . Almost forgotten and drown by the sheer amount of other "fantasy" animes. And that is if they got adapt into an anime at all.
Fortunately for me, I was proven wrong.
@@Heylanda-fb9xb nah reality said for itself but theres reason , few years back theres only isekai shit even mushoku thingy , so people starve for something new , something actually is written because for its purpose so yeah

Female protagonist doesn't make them great. But they make them Fresh.
We've been bombarded with badly written female protagonist these two greats shows how it is done and I'll be waiting for more to learn from them because we need more fresh loaf not more fresh turd.
These two are popular because the FLs are much better written, even better than regular shonen protags. Look at Himmel and Jinshi , they are incredibly written and no less than the FLs . Heck , Himmel is dead yet he keeps the story going , that's some writing.
I think the reason why I enjoyed these 2 shows so much is because the 2 main characters aren't overly expressive like most main characters of their genres. i.e. Easily excitable adventure-seeking protagonists from Bleach / KonoSuba. The way they're stoic most of the time, except when it comes to the things that interest them, like new magic and medicine, is relatable to most.
For Frieren, we usually expect a hyperactive cast typical of the fast-paced adventure genre, but instead we get a calm perspective of things with protagonists that are mostly very chill in a slice-of-life kind of way. Its the unusual blend of genre factors that gets me.
Similarly, Apothecary Diaries has a mystery-type plot, i.e. Moriarty the Patriot, which usually has an intellectual-looking cast, but Apothecary Diaries uses the type of protagonist traits you'd usually find in a rom-com.
These 2 shows blended genre traits that are usually not seen together in a very successful way, and that's what makes them stand out from the rest of the generic animes.
Huh, I’d change Ichigo in that comparison tbh
Frieren is my favorite Fantasy show ever, just so good, been reading the manga for like 2 yeears and honestly amazing.
The Apothecary diaries i found so good, its the first show I have actively started reading the light novels just so I can keep reading the story; read 6 volumes (manga was in volume 4 at the time) in a WEEK, while I havent read an actual book in years, it was so goodly written
im obsessed with the LN, reading volume 6 at the moment.
I read all 10 before the series ended and I started reading them this year itself 😅 they are so good. I’m almost done vol 11 (1 part released per week on j-novels), and can’t wait for vol 12 to be translated already 🤓
I love both of these shows because they feel authenticity female. They are smart, well rounded, have realistic flaws, and have passions and hobbies that they pursue unabashedly. I'm very excited to see theses types of characters pop up in anime.
Marvel and Disney must learn from those animes. Making a show with female lead needs a well-written character, not making the male counterparts stupid so the female lead could stand out.
Imagine exploring manga, finding a good one, keeping up with it for years and then you hear a Anime is made out of it.
The feeling of joy and fear, as not every Anime made out there lives up to the source or idea.
Now let me introduce you to two of those that i have experienced this with and turned out to be phenomenal.
O wait.. .. you already introduced them for me. Cheers mate!
These two animes have been such a breath of fresh air.
ikr.
Frieren and both have a unique vibe to them that we dont often get, i think that’s why they stand out so much.
You should read akane-banashi, it has a great female lead closer to maomao but without the drug addiction, it’s growing rapidly in popularity hopefully it gets an anime soon
Lol but Mao mao's drug addiction is a part of her charm (don't do drugs kids)
both are heavily autistic coded. that might be the reason why they feel different.
I would like to add a correction, theyre just good written characters who happends to be female (even if maomao her being female does have a significance to the setting, its still doesnt take a away even if you look past her gender that she still be a good character)
When I first checked out the releases for this past seasons, I immediately picked up Frieren, asthe genre tags suited my fancy, while the tags on Apothecary Diaries didn't really do that. Once it finished airing, I was about to give Apothecary Diaries the usual 3 episode treatment to decide wether it's worth watching or not, and ended up binge watching the entire thing, pulling up the manga, and reading whatever was not in the anime.
And damn it was a great read, even with how half of some chapters were missing on the site I read them on.
I highly recommend the light novels for Apothecary Diaries if you can! They're wonderfully rich in story and depth!
I honestly feel bad for apothecary diaries. It would’ve been a really memorable standout show contending for best of the year if it had aired at almost any other time. But instead, it just had to come out at the exact same time as Frieren. I’m happy we got to enjoy two shows of this quality for half a year, but it feels like apothecary diaries hasn’t gotten the attention it deserves.
Seriously, I'd been waiting so long for anime with female lead with amazing plot since Claymore. I'm so happy that they're starting animating these stories.
Poor Claymore, that one season was not enough. There's so much more in the manga!
I'm glad these are getting recognition, can't wait for season 2!!
The difference between Hollywood girl-bosses and these two characters is that Frieren and Maomao are actually vulnerable.
Frieren spent a thousand years as a hermit. She was emotionally distant, socially clueless, adorably thickheaded at times, lazy, and inconsiderate and the entire show deals at least in part with recognizing some of these flaws and learning how to be better.
She's not necessarily less lazy, but she is trying to find ways to make up for it.
She's still less emotionally involved than some, but she's making an effort to connect.
She can still be clueless, but she's trying to consider the viewpoints of others instead of just going with the flow that worked for a thousand years.
She evolves and grows as a character and her flaws and how she deals with them make her endearing.
Maomao is similar, but for her the appeal consists of the fact that she's navigating a world that's very explicitly not egalitarian. There is a clear hierarchy and she's not at the top. She has to manage society's expectations of how a servant girl should behave and the power imbalance between her and most of the people she meets with her desire for agency and need for justice.
Sometimes, she messes up. She KNOWS she ought to stay quiet for her own sake but she speaks up or acts anyways.
The whole underdog thing makes the show really gripping, as does the intrigue and the glimpse into a society so radically different from what Western people experience.
Both shows really thrive on the flaws and challenges of their protagonists, not their girlboss yass queen energy.
Both characters ALSO have their clear strengths and moments where they're genuinely very impressive (Frieren when she unleashes some of the prodigous power she collected in a millenium of practice and Maomao when she uses her sharp intellect and eloquence to uncover some mystery or gets someone to listen to reason), but that's not their entire character or their only redeeming quality.
For 6 months Frieren and Maomao were my aces along with Chise from Ancient Magus Bride, but I had to bid all my girls adieu. Thankfully my boys Rimaru and Deku are back to fill the void for the next 6 lol
Same here, waiting for AMB season 3.
You killed it with the narration, good stuff
I'm so excited! I really hope that good animes of this quality will continue to be made eheheh!!
I'd argue that Maomao is a better character than Frieren but Frieren (the anime) is a better anime overall than apothecary.
Frieren genuinely amazed me tho, it managed to give me that feeling of discovering something great for the first time.
That's the same feeling I had when I started playing video games, the feeling I had when I first started watching anime, when I discovered a sport that I like, when my friend told me to google XXX in first grade of elementary school, when I found out that I like machinery and started learning about it.
This stupid anime about a 5000 year old L0L! made me feel that feeling again.
Maomao is a more realistic character, while Friren is a fantasy character they both have their appeal. Yes Frieren is a 1000 year old elf who likes to nap a lot and eat large meals and falls into mimic traps and is scared when her teenage apprentice starts pouting.
@@voss0749Frieren is a teenage elf if not younger
@@voss0749 yes but in my opinion Frieren doesn't have that much of a character, the show focuses more on people around her.
Frieren is a road movie with a lot of charismatic characters in addition to the main character. By contrast, The apothecary diaries were involved in power struggles and a rigid class system, and only MaoMao was particularly charismatic
It's a good thing that lyrics has been confirmed for a season 2 although they never said when it would actually come out yet
I really hope your channel grow tremendously ❤
Love this video every fact you point out are absolutely true❤
On a normal season, The Apothecary Diaries would be a serious contender for best anime of the season. But then it released in the same season as the GOAT Frieren. And I'm so f***ng lucky that I decided "meh, so bored, I think I'll start watching the new animes as they release" exactly that same season. I regret nothing.
same
The fact that I stumbled upon these two animes with no idea what they were about THEN being blown away by how good they were was probably one of the best things to happen to me in awhile. Even got my friend to start Apothecary Diaries (since he already started Frieren) which he also ended up really enjoying too.
Crazy how you can have a strong female lead without shoving it literally in your face or degrading men every scene😂
Explain this to Netflix
Not making them annoying is good enough for me.
Not only strong female leads but also strong female characters in general. I haven't finished Frieren yet but majority of the women in Apothecary diaries all have their own strength
lol a LOT of anime degrades woman but you are bothered of a very few that "degrade" men
Please give examples because I have no idea what you're talking about. People bring up Rey often but that never really happened from what I saw.
Keep doin what you're doin cuz you got the makings of a phenomenal channel! I wish you good fortune in all your endeavors!
I binged Apocathary Diaries in one sitting. I adore Frieren. I'm dying for season 2 on both of them.

Appreciate it! Really recommend checking out both of 'em though they're lovely
@@veridian4433 I will watch after the reviews you've done for them
I like watching anime where politics are used to show a message even if it's a mild one. I just finished rewatching kino's journey and while its examples are a bit extreme I enjoy how it could dumb down seemingly political chaos into actual small life lessons.
Frieren and Apothecary will be two shows I rewatch often. I fell in love with these shows after the first couple episodes.
I love the apothecary diaries. I watched the anime read the manga and now I'm reading the light novel. I didn't understand why I liked it so mutch but now I do. and just for reference, yes I also watched and read all of frieren
This was a good video! Keep up the good work!
Thanks for making this video! I used to be really into anime and followed a lot of AniTubers, but over time the scene changed and I found myself barely watching any anime.
I know that trends are always changing and creators come and go, but I missed hearing people passionate about anime discussing it and shouting out hidden gems people might have missed. It's a lot easier to start a show after hearing *why* it's good.
Occasionally I complain about isekai, and it's not because I hate fantasy. Some of my favorite titles are fantasy. But I really missed the depth of characters and philosophical themes from certain older works. Sometimes I worry anime will become a flanderization of itself and people will forget why it resonates with so many people in the first place.
Thank you for making this video bro.. I’m a huge fan of Frieren and I finished the anime so I didn’t know what to watch, saw this video and checked it out. The apothecary diaries is PEAK 😭😭🙏🙏
Because they are both amazing
I love both of them because there stories are unique and the animation is gorgeous.

Yeah I think anime audiences have been hungry for a strong female leads for a while now..There just ain't that many anime with female leads in general.. Let alone ones with good strong female leads.
maomao basically oreki, but has a good reason to remain silent
Im so in love with Frieren now. ❤❤❤
frieren is a bunch of op characters battling the unbeatable enemy, time.
future animes have a tough act to follow after Apothecary diaries and Frieren ended. I am staying postive for the season 2 of each 🤩
It took like, 10 seconds for me to process that I'd suddenly seen Max Verstappen for some reason, and another 10 seconds to figure out why
Frieren and maomao are similar in design in a certain trope: the mc whos only aim in life is to pursuit their quirky hobby (herb poison and silly spells) but has the capability to pull of 300 iq moves anytime like a war veteran. They are op but they are limited by their own quirkiness (gojo also fits this trope). Interesting and balanced.
good story writing and no useless fanservice really does wonders
Wrong. It's the power of having strong and well written Leads.
Seconded, gender has nothing to do with it
I'm very glad Frieren isn't a guy so dumbasses aren't as willing of calling her a mary sue
Nah there are very few anime with female leads like this and their gender plays a significant role
I absolutely loved loved loved both of those shows. At first Frieren didn’t really appeal to me but I just kept watching and it turned out way better than I could’ve imagined. Now waiting 2yrs for the second season makes me sad lol
Definitely my fave comfort anime this year 😆
The light novels get truly amazing and there's more coming.🎉 The manga hasn't even completed the first four novels, there's 13 and still ongoing and 10 have been translated to English.
Can't wait more .
you should definitely make a video about "kingdom" its just so good
Impressively enough, Kusuriya no Hitorigoto is the first anime i convinced my wife to watch with me. I was telling her about it and she thought it sounded interesting, so i asked her if she wanted to see it with me and we are just 2 episodes from the end. It's just another example of how great this stories are written.
Well, you got three shows actually with The Dangers in My Heart finishing up a second season. That is an outstanding show as well.
We all know Keijo!!!!! Is your all time favorite anime and that is a great choice.
Yeah these 2 anime’s was a limelight for the past few months
I just LOVE both
I can't help it! I love trash isekai so much. It sustains me. It's literally ambrosia for the troll that lives within my cold dead heart.
if we would not have frieren, the apothecary diaries would have been the best anime of its season, no doubts there.
but we do have frieren, leaving apothecary in 2nd place for this season.
don't get me wrong: both are great shows and i love them.
what i want to say is: we got 2 animes which are both incredibly good, but there can be only one number 1. if maomao would have shown her face in any other season, she would have been the undisputed queen of it, but frieren (and especially pouty-faced fern) is a very tough competition to beat. there is no shame in 2nd place this time. honestly: it should still be considered an honour (at least this time)
If you enjoyed Apothecary Diaries you'll also probably like Raven Of The Inner Palace- if you haven't seen it, you should give it a watch! I doubt you'll be disappointed
The fact that apothecary diarys isnt ending at 24 epesode was maybe the best surprise since its maybe the first anime where I didnt switch to dub when I saw the option since I didnt want to go back 3 epesodes
I kinda knew I would get a Kingdom reference (even through I am on a manga break for now).
But yes ancient China is interesting as a setting.
And I got so into it after just 3 episodes that I read all manga chapters on the next 2 days and after I caught up with that media, I immediately bought all (at that point 9) available light novels and read through them in just a bit over 2 months. I really love the world and the characters and the comedy certainly isn't bad either. Right now there are 10 LNs (in English) with the 11th coming in May, each book takes 4-6 month to translate and there are 15 light novels out there in Japanese.
I love frieren because she's not just some overpowered mc who solos every boss, which she could very well do, but she has her own flaws in battle and also chooses to not fight just to give stark or fern the opportunity.
the same thing with maomao, she doesnt participate in investigating cases or sharing information to anyone unless she gets something out of it/absolutely neccesary
1:24 correction, before you have seen either of those 2 things, you have seen her smug smile offering a potion. :P

Atleast we got something to enjoy this last 6 months ( apothecatu diaries season 2 is already in works)
One thing i did not expect from this video was Max Verstappen appearing. 10/10
Frieren, apothecary diaries and dungeon meshi are all awesome. Maomao is the best character from those shows and one of my favorite fictional female characters
SEASON 2 OF AN APOTHECARY DIARIEA ANNOUNCED TOWARDS 2025
I would personally also add Delicious in Dungeon as one of the big surprises for me.
As long as something knows how to fit dialogue, and actually have stuff happening to make us engaged with it im not into heavy Dialogue shows but if they know how pick when then i dont mind it
Actually, if you change the genders of Frieren and Maomao, they still make great protagonists. Maomao, for me, is like Senku from Dr. Stone, but her character is more fleshed out and interesting. Additionally, Frieren is akin to an improved version of Ginko from Mushishi; they share similar personalities, but Frieren undergoes more character development.
Frieren and Maomao are ten times better than male protagonists these days, who are typically edgy dudes that start as underdogs and turn out to be overpowered. I wish they would stop milking these types of male MCs.
There needs to be better male mcs in a great series that everyone loves. I hope Frieren eventually gets surpassed by a great series that happens to have a male mc
The Apothecary Diaries is one the best animes I have ever watched.
4:35 lol that chaos rune and flower. I think I should go back playing Runescape.
Apothecary diaries and sousou no frieren have shot up to part of my top 10 all time ❤
Actually 🔥 shows
last season is basically the anime valve The Orange Box
Frieren is amazing but apothecary diaries is rewatchable af
I want season 2s!!! 🤞🤞🤞
Both of the shows English dub are great too, they just barely wrapped up and I loved it
The apothecary is the best anime of the year. Great character development and storyline. I bough and read the light novels and manga on kindle right after. I hope they keep animating the whole thing
@ 08:02. Confirmed: Maomao, the final Upper Moon. Stronger than Kokushibo.
I didn’t realize how much I love down to earth, non-exaggerated females in anime until watching both of these
The apothecary diaries deserves popularity and love.
Oh wait are we also talking about friren?Sorry I forgot.
What do you mean why?
Because they are that good. They are finely made.
With love and care. By professionals who didn't lazy about their work.
Good grown up plots, dialogues, characters and motivations.
Superb animations from background to little movement details.
They are just really really well made.
Frieren and Maomao are very well written characters
2023 anime season was a phenomenal year of anime for me. Since most major animes are produced to be targeted towards male audiences, as a girl mainstream anime was never really appealing to me. Sadly there was barely any actual good shows made for women back then. Upon release, Frieren and apothecary diaries were such a breathe of fresh air and instantly appealed to me. Both shows were perfect adaptations in storytelling and consistent quality, and both are pioneers that explored unique themes and tropes in anime history and successfully hit off with its audiences. Most importantly, both had extremely well written female characters of all animes I’ve seen and gets it right. These characters portray realistic female traits without portraying them all in negative light. Perhaps a reason both and especially Frieren were so popular was because it gained a new demographic of female audiences. Either way, I’m glad to see newer themes used in mainstream anime that is unique to others and more appealing to women. Absolutely love Frieren and apothecary diaries, hope to see more coming in the future :)
Its because its rare for an anime to have a great female lead. Definitely a W ❤
It’s exciting to see that anime with well written female main characters are getting popular… Hope Japan gets the hint and invests in making more…been kind of discouraged by how recent popular series have had shit women (cough cough demon slayer and my hero)
My hero has good female characters and demon slayer doesn't have many side characters.
I like how you addressed my main issue with anime straight at the beginning, THAT THERE ARE FUCKING TO MUCH OF THEM😅
Nice ❤
