    Look at the physique of Williams in that bout and imagine what he lost when he was shot with .357 magnum at point blank range. A true warrior to earn a title shot after his recovery on Nov. 14 1966 against Muhammad Ali. At least Terrell fought a Prime Williams unlike Ali.

      @fitzgeraldanthony9333 Před 2 lety +4

      Ali is very fortunate he got the watered down version of Cleveland Williams. Even his( Ali) team later admitted that Williams in his absolute prime years would have been real trouble for Ali. Style wise it would have been interesting because Williams before that magnum blast took away several feet of his intestines, damaged other organs and caused him to lose over 50 pounds of muscle mass, was a pretty nimble footed athlete for such a big man. The big Cat had a very nice first step and was able to torque and unleash that hybrid hook/ uppercut with impressive speed. Ali had a bad tendency throughout his ENTIRE career to have his guard totally out of position after he jabbed. His right hand would drop continously his waist leaving his jaw totally exposed. He dropped his right every single time he threw his jab, which is why he could never stop Fraziers hook.
      And he was open for a straight right over the top of his jab because he routinely dropped his left after he jabbed. The problem was very few fighters in the 1st phase of his career were smart enough and quick enough to time Ali and exploit those flaws. Williams in his best days was one of the men who could have because he was a sound boxer with good fundamentals, tall, rangy with good legs and above average handspeed.He also had an under-rated jab. Ali could not defend against A good world class jab as Ken Norton demonstrated in all 3 of their fights especially the 1st one. Had their bout been when Williams was top notch I personally feel that would be an evenly matched bout with Ali maybe being slightly favored. Muhammad In those days got dropped and Stunned badly by lesser punchers than Williams. His chin wasn't as durable as it would later become in his second phase.
      As for Williams Physique in his prime? Phenomenal!

    The decision went Williams way, a Ali bout was expected to be sanctioned to determine Liston next logical title challenger. The Ali team did not want to face this version of Williams to why they did everything to avoid a title fight, until Williams found himself fighting for life after being shot with .357 magnum. Then Ali fought Williams, this is why for me Ali is nothing until he fought this version of Williams. He was shit scared

    • @stevenyourke7901

      Why should Ali fight Williams when he had a chance to fight Liston for the title? Plus if you think that Ali - Clay as he was then known - was afraid to fight Williams, you’re crazy. Williams didn’t even beat Terrell in this fight - you really think he stood a chance against Clay?! Get real. Liston destroyed Williams twice and Ali destroyed Liston twice. Williams didn’t stand a chance against Ali. Never. Not in his dreams. Williams was much too slow.

    • @clevelandwilliams5922

      @@stevenyourke7901 yes he did and Williams was considered the next challenger before Liston. Ali the show boating to force Liston to accept a title fight was good on his part. Ali was knocked down by a missile from Henry Cooper. This is why Williams had a good chance, his management & training team new it. Williams didn’t get the decision over Terrell but he shouldn’t have been placed in a rematch as he knocked him out in the 7th round a year earlier.

So what of Clay was knocked down by Cooper? He stopped Cooper in four rounds anyway. If Liston couldn’t beat Ali, nobody then alive could beat Ali. Certainly not a slow footed fighter like Williams.
