  • Study shows 80% of most transmissions can be repaired with a simple computer flash update. In this video I show how the updates relate to the Chrysler Dodge Minivans with the 62TE Transmission. Transmission whining noise may be internal.

30 plus years. Been doing mostly transmissions for the past couple of years now. Mostly GM and Ford but this 62TE came in this week and I’m just cruzing around to familiarize myself with known issues before I dive in. Keep it up! Hope you’re making a little extra money from the channel!

Yea we have turned to mostly R&R guys now as it relates to that 62TE. Last one I overhauled was over 4 years ago. Hard to get parts so they instructing us to simply replace them now. But good luck my guy.

I have a really good mystery to solve for you. I have a 2016 Grand Caravan with a 3.6 V6 and a 62te transmission. And I also have a 2013 Town and Country with the 3.6 V6 and a 62te. I got both of them used without knowing much of their history. My Dodge Caravan transmission went out at 125 thousand miles two years ago. I was healthy enough to replace the transmission with a remanufactured one that I bought online and had shipped to me. And I haven't had any trouble since then. That thing is a rocket. Give it the gas and it just goes. Recently my 2013 Town and Country transmission decided to go out on me. It has 181 thousand miles on it. But I am no longer able to work on cars my lungs collapsed and I'm on oxygen. So I took it to a very reputable transmission shop. And I paid them $6700 to completely rebuild the transmission. I got it back 4 days ago. It no longer slips. But it is slower than a damn turtle on take off. Nothing like my 2016 grand caravan with its reman transmission that I installed on it two years ago. I just don't get it. They gave me the work up sheet of everything done to it. And it makes no sense how it could be so slow on take off. I guess I am wondering if they did not relearn the transmission, then would it be acting and driving like it did when it was bad because it was used to driving like that ?

Your low on ATF+4 HAS DIRTY OIL & NEED A NEW FILTER & CHANGE OUT ALL 9qts PRESURE LESS (NO FLUSH) by idling out the oil from the return from radiator pipe. 2 times 6qts first then 3qts.
(Don't shift only 6qts out as they do in this video then you get more dirt in your AT brain.)
IF it does not jump out of limp mode by oilchange+filter... then you need to clean your solenoids & the valvebody too.
Or shift to renovated or buy complete NEW solenoids (all) & new VALVEBODY.

Thanks for this video, you might have put me on the right track, At 85k miles had my 2014 caravan tranny rebuilt, new torque convertor and all, but then it started this bucking and stalling coming into stops, rpms bounced all over like it didn't know what to do, didn't do this all the time so the shop couldn't find any error codes. They replaced the solenoid pack but not other sensors or the TCC to my knowledge and they didn't do flash updates, just relearn. Still does this thing occasionally and seems to happen more if in economy mode. Then the other day when I put it in gear it didn't engage unless I revved the engine a bit, then it went smoothly, no clunk or anything - it was a colder day after a mild day with rain. Anyways, from this I figure its the flash updates and/or a new TCC, what are your thoughts? Awesome info!!!

@81LsJoce, I inherited a 2014 GC and it was making the notorious "tick/tap" sound. Being the non-mechanic, I still thought this wasn't normal. I changed the oil myself since inheriting it and found drill-bit like shavings on the oil filter. So I began to do some research and started taking things apart despite having basically no tools. Some of the roller rockers had failed and therefore the camshaft lobes were being SHREDDED by the roller rocker frame. Anyone who has ever seen a "camshaft" knows that the lobes are generally "tear-drop shaped", well the ones on the rear bank intake cam were COMPLETELY ROUNDED down so that's how much freaking steel bits ended up in the engine. I did the best I could to replace that camshaft and all 24 rockers and all 24 lifters but still had to take it to the dealer to correct whatever else was wrong. It sounded practically brand new but it's BS that they build garbage like this, sell it to customers for tens of thousands and then expect customers to foot the bill.
This thing was barely 6 yrs old and about 115,000 miles at this point. I have 20 yr old cars with tried and true pushrod engines with over 240,000 miles never had to replace any valvetrain components and they're still driven.... This has been my first experience with a "Dodge" product and it's not been very good. I've replaced several things on it doing the work myself and now it just so happens the transmission is experiencing some of these shift/whine issues. I have no history on the transmission but I changed the filter and fluid about 6+ months ago with the proper fluid etc., and of course with these if you don't have a proper scanner to check the transmission fluid temperature you'll have to find that out another way and then procure that "3-4 foot long dipstick" with the mm markings on it or try to use the engine oil dipstick like some to use for checking it. Just some of the stupidest things I've seen manufactured into a vehicle.

yeah.... I agree with you.... They have updated several time the rocker arm on the 3.6 pentastar but i'm still thinking the valve's spring are too stiff for the capacity of the rocker arm itself (and the design of.... )
They take too much load and cause so much stress on the bearing itself... until they become loose and ''custom regrind'' your cam... on the worst way...
what a crappy engeneering 🙄🤦... And Dodge? No recall on that....
I learned ont the hard way on mine, i need to change all 4 camshaft 😑 (My flexible was leaking so made me miss the Legendary ''tiking noise'' of those engine... 🤦🤦)
The 62TE transmission are crap too.... The torque converter fall in dust by itself and make the rest of the transmission so dirty... Oil turn black in a record time... Even if you tow nothing with.
I saw few of those van with broken flexplate too...Included mine....)
The flexplete broke around the 6 center Bolt for wich reason? I dont know... 🤦🤷🏻

Hi. I have P0868 code in an town&country 2014 with 3.6 engine and 62TE transmission. I already make service " change fluid and filter. I clear the code and P0868 appear again. Then I review power train fluid pressure with an scanner and I found low pressure reading and a lot of noise at pressure sensor. Then I change fluid pressure sensor and also power variable solenoid. The signal get more stable but pressure still low just when is in Neutral and Parking and also when start to move from first speed until 3rd sped. the real pressure is around 100 psi but target pressure is 135 psi. In all others speeds or position the real pressure is following properly the target pressure. as example when drive is selected but with brake applied the real and target pressure are in 60 psi. I thing the issue can be caused by oil pump and/or torque converter. Speed changes work well and soft. just fluid pressure is around 100 psi "Low" when target should be 135 psi of course P0868 appear again after long trip. around 6 to 10 hours driving at highway . Could you please share your opinion?. do you think computer should be flashed?. or pump and/or torque converter should be replaced?. The vehicle is around 75k mile. Thanks in advance and best regards

Hello, I have a 2008 doge caravan sxt (188k miles) with the 62TE, i bought this vehicle new and had the transmission replaced by dodge at approx 80K,This vehicle has lifetime warranty on the engine and transmission. fast forward to now, 188K on it, I was driving it and it seemed that someone popped it into neutral, no bang, no symptoms ahead of time. I had nor forward gears or reverse, it would stay in park. I used this vehicle daily and i drive it easy. I had it towed to a local dodge dealer in Florida, when they finally had a minute to check the vehicle out they said they found a bad ground in the transmission wire harness(part# 68066253AC) which is not available thru Dodge anymore. They have not provided me with the codes at this point(I have been bugging them for the codes). They said they need to rule out this wire harness before they move forward, does that happen, no bang, no previous symptoms, to me it sounds like transmission, probably because that is covered warranty they say the wire harness is not. I am now looking to purchase a used harness from anywhere to move forward. Should I bring it to a transmission specialist shop or sit tight? I feel like Im getting jerked around, its been at the shop for 19 days and still no game plan. I hope I gave you enough info, lol. thank you for your great videos.

Hey bud, it sounds like you suspect they trying to get out of not fixing the transmission thats still under warranty. That may be stretching it a little bit, fact is, theres nothing to getting that trans approved for replacement again if they see theres a problem, however, if they replace it, send it back and the reman place find theres nothing wrong with it, they could get the claim charged back and end up paying your bill. Im curious as to why the harness need to be replaced? The the shift lever rub a hole in the wiring or what? Im also curious as to what the code is. So they wanting to gamble (rule out) with a high dollar wiring harness to see if this fix it? wow, Something does not sound right

My 62TE in my 2011 Dodge Caravan 3.6VVT gave a P0740 code with 104,000 miles. I bought it used about 6 months ago. I proceeded to drop the pan and change the filter, replaced with 5 1/2 Quarts of ATF+4. There was NO metal chips in the pan, just normal residue around the magnet, but the fluid had that burnt smell. I cleared the stored and pending codes, drove it 15 miles. It shifts fantastic, especially from 40 to 60, with NO bang or shudder. The check engine light came back on. Do you think a flash will eliminate the problem that causes the P0740 code. Thanks
