Great point about the false-scam AI etc false info vids. Is strange how the ‘creator’ puts a tank you and a thumbs up on the comments that call out their BS. Thanks CoinHELPu for the facts and honesty. I took a 40-50 yr. layoff from the hobby. Am back into it as a passion. You have helped me greatly. I usually watch on my Smart TV. I come to my IPad to like or comment. Thanks again.
"Buy a Book" was the best advice I ever got in the hobby. There are many of us here that can direct newbies to the Red book or whatever book covers the coins you're interested in. Even a used book a few years out of date for a few dollars is valuable for gold silver and copper coin collecting. My first book was 5 yrs old and had everything I needed to know about the older coins. I appreciate the educational effort Daniel puts into his community. 👍
90% of my time is coin collecting, researching, looking around, learning all I can at my LCS and online through guys like this guy. I love Daniels videos.
I think all this gentleman should have to say is that he has integrity and is a man with character. Two rare qualities especially in today's world. Keep up the good work sir.
"What's it worth" Back in the mid-60's a friend showed me his Penny book and the first question I had for him was "What's it worth". Moving on up to 1980 and me with a metal detector, I started collecting. Got the Whitman coin books and started filling them in as I found them. I upgraded coins as I found better ones. My motives changed, I really got a charge out of the beauty of a silver coin coming out of the ground. Coins are some great art work, hands on to history. "What's it worth" in collecting mint rounds, bars, To me is a different hobby? Investment? Silver stacking, paying MORE for a mint state, Millions of them, One just like the next one. "What's it worth" That's not Numismatics. finding a rare coin is great, But my first love now is the beauty of the coin is first.
Only two videos I watch every day. Daniel’s and The Coin Geek. Sage advice for two experts. I only started collecting last year and everything I have learned is from these two gentleman. My heirs will not find overpriced premium boxes of coins from ads in Parade magazine when I go …. Thanks again and keep up the fight!
I finished watching the whole video. Thank goodness there’s someone who understands the aspects of someone new being taken advantage of and cares enough to speak out on it ! You covered everything I’ve ran across and I literally gave up collecting because not many people speak out about this issue. Again, I thank you for your voice in calling out what is wrong. So many people are literally trying to get every dollar from you by any means necessary. It’s sad but true. I haven’t bought a coin in months because of exactly what Daniel is telling everyone. Now, I can count on one hand who I will buy from now and don’t need all my fingers. I plan on many purchases coming from here.
I've learned so much from this channel, facts about coins. How to investigate and spot certain details and differences. I'm very grateful for the time you take to make these videos and speak truthfully about coin collecting.
Also when you buy on eBay, if they don't have more than 100 transactions, haven't been on there for a few years and don't have a 100% or damn close feedback, don't buy from them period! And sometimes if they check all those boxes and have thousands of sells, you need to check their feedback, they may have 10 negatives a month but enough sells to keep a 98% or something like that, but I wouldn't want to be one of those 10 a month, just not worth it. I'm just telling you my rules for buying and selling and it's worked for 24 years. Good luck and hopefully you stay in the hobby.
It's up to the buyer to do the research and become knowledgeable yourself. Some people still believe if it's too good to be true, lol? It must be true. That's called learning the hard way.
I’ve seen tons of idiots on line but you are always spot on when it comes to coins, I’ve been a hobbyist collector for 60 years and I wish I had 1/10th of your knowledge of coins ! ☮️🙏
I have 45 years of coin collecting experience, and I appreciate seeing an honest coin dealer like Daniel. I’ve lost my share of money learning my lessons from dishonest dealers.
Two specific comments on this excellent video: 1) Concur that the Mega Redbook would make a superb text for a course on US coins. Its content is valuable and pertinent. 2). I do a lot of appraisals and virtually every one contains coins that are counterfeits, altered or way overpriced. It takes a good deal of tact and perspective to explain to the client how common this is. You do our hobby a great service, Daniel! I’ll see you soon.
God bless you, Daniel - and many, many thanks for helping us stay clear of fraudsters and scammers. The coin world is jungle for us newbies and we can easily lose our way and do foolish things. Your best advice will always be: Consult a reputable dealer and only buy from a reputable dealer! I wish you the very best 2024 !!!!
The information that you provide is a valuable service to all collectors. I look forward to each episode, I learn something new each time, thank you. Each time a product is offered, there are creeps who ooze out from under a rock to separate neophytes from their money.
Pretty cool of you to keep everyone informed! I used to help my Grandpa with his coins when I was young and tried to get back into it and was ripped off very bad...actually so bad that I just gave everything away and gave it up
I agree. "The Coin Geek" is an excellent, honest, ethical, and informative channel. For those interested in stacking, "Silver Dragons" would be an excellent choice (coin collectors will be very interested in his videos with Harry's Coin Shop in Beaverton, OR.) There are many honest and ethical people in our hobby. Please support them.
There is Absolutely Nothing Wrong with You making Money , you are Human😊 You Teach People about Coins & it's TRUE. Thank you for Sharing Your Knowledge ❤
I did not mean to leave your channel out and I don't get to watch their videos, but I know them both personally. So I know their channels are good. So is your channel.
Good on you! I made a video about scammers in the community and never got so much downvoting and hatemail. These scammers will stop at nothing to maintain their ripoffs
Being educated and familiarizing yourself with coins of interest will prevent you from falling for scams and overpricing, which includes only buying from sellers you can trust.
I agree with you Daniel, all of these scammer and people selling their over price coins should be banned from selling anything on any channels. When ever I see one of these people selling their over price stuff I put the alert out to all of the coin collectors I know and asked them to also to complain to the channels that they are on and what they are doing if everyone in the hobby would do this it's will help to stop some but unfortunately not all. Thanks for this information video Daniel. If everyone in the coin community would do the same I believe we would have a good impact on getting rid of these people trying to harm our hobby. Thanks again Daniel and have a great day.

Thank you, Dan, for educating and growing the hobby in an ethical way. I wish you much continued success!! I absolutely love your videos and I learn all kinds of cool diagnostic tools from watching your videos. I always look forward to watching your videos.
I've been learning about the art world and it is filled with forgeries. So glad we have TPGS companies to offer a degree of protection. Still, Daniel is right, there is no substitute for knowledge.
I don't have a problem with grading services. I believe it has been a great help for collectors. I do have a problem with grading new mint releases such as Eagles. They are bullion coins, not in circulation, and the early release, first-day issue that is sold is BS. I have more about this, but will end it here. Thank you Daniel for what you do.
I agree with you totally but you should go look at the price for those silver bullion eagles from 1986-2000 in ms 70 They are 850- 6,000 wholesale. Just cause it was bullion and cheap had nothing to do with how scarce/rare they are in Ms 70.
You can say what you want about the US Mint, but for the most part they do a good job. Some coins struck may have a small scratch, blemish or what have you, but the first coin struck should be in the same condition as the last for the majority and are I belive. My local coin dealer told me of a large dealer sending in a couple thousand Eagles to be graded and they dictated that 1250 had to be MS70 and the rest in MS69. I don't buy them. It is a marketing scam that has sucked in thousand of buyers. @@RobertLee-wi5kc
Good video. I totally agree with the damage being done by scammers and outright thieves. We all need to educate, especially seniors and gullible people that just don’t know any better. I have started to comment on adds that hype up coins and/or values and the listers don’t like it. No surprise! I’m going to keep doing it because I don’t care if they hate me. We need to try and shut these people down!
Thank you, Daniel. There are so many scammers out there. I did receive some items from my parents, and what they paid for them is outrageous. They put out adds drawing in people and ripping them off. Keep up the good work on exposing the scams.
Thank u for everything u do for this hobby that I've loved and cherished thru out the yrs! As it's getting more difficult to keep any hobby from counterfeiting! Happy new yrs Daniel, looking forward to more of ur educational videos, please don't stop!
There are so many fakes out there that I won't buy from person to person. I'll only buy from coin shops/websites or coin shows. I steer clear of eBay because honestly in not good enough to detect these fakes. Now we have fake slabs to deal with too. It really sucks. Honestly almost makes me want to quit coin collecting.
I haven’t watched the whole video yet but I had to stop and message you now to say THANK YOU ! This nearly made me quit collecting because it’s so bad. I haven’t said the crap I dealt with publicly and won’t. But the fraud and tricking new collectors is extremely bad. Thank you for your honesty. That’s why you are literally the main channel I come to first to see what you are warning others of.
Amen!!! I have collected since childhood in the mid-late 1960’s. I promote the hobby whenever I can! I am also worried about the lack of young people with interest in the hobby. I like to give coins to them and tell about their history
The Coin Geek, you and a few others helped teach me about coins that were cleaned, even if it is not harshly cleaned. I thank you. I also don't understand why the Coin Geek doesn't have a lot more subs.
Because numismatists are really a niche category. Lots of people collect gold and silver, because you don't have to know much, but true collectible coins merit lots of research and time invested.
@@jeffw1267 You learn new stuff all the time. I don't pretend to be an expert on their level. (Coin Geek, and Daniel.) I know some stuff, but learning all the time.
Your presentations are excellent, I've learned from them. Your insight, knowledge and expertise is appreciated. Started stacking generic silver which made me appreciate bullion coins, now I'm all up on vintage US coins. There really is something for everyone. Stack on. OR collect on.
Artificial Toned coins mainly Morgan Dollars (uncertified) but not stated A.T. in the listings with no return policy is robbing the novice collector and ruining the hobby for many . Only buy certified from a major grading company . Even white coins I only buy certified now to avoid cleaned , scratched and altered coins . Daniel is one of the honest sellers out there....
Completely support and will join in on this war on dressers and those that are harming our community and scamming people that don’t deserve to be scammed!! Happy Holidays to you and your family and all in the CoinHelpU community!!
Knowledge is the most important thing concerning collecting coins, indeed anything. What annoys me more then anything is when you see a coin on ebay, and the seller, sends you not the coin shown. They send the exact same piece, but an inferior piece, and will argue with you its the same coin. I now have to ask the seller everytime to ask is this the exact coin I will recieve. Sellers are not allowed to this, as its against ebay rules, but ebay do nothing about it.
Right on Brother D. I mayyyy possibly be your biggest advocate of these types vids you do. Thank you, thank you, and sincerely... Thank you. For those of us who have spent a vast part of our lives immersed in numismatics, INTEGRITY is most important to us. Other than CoinHelpu, I know no other university that anyone graduates from that earned a bachelor's in numismatics. There are no degrees, certificates one receives. No manuscripts of provenance, if you will for ones knowledge. Only integrity of the good name exists within this field and those whom have spent yrs, decades building a solid reputable name, have a deep loathing for the sniveling, that are undermining those whom are putting out real, authentic, accurate information. Peace🙏🕉️
People can't help but see how much you truly love the hobby. Thanks for being such a positive influence. Also, I agree.... Ben @ The Coin Geek is a must watch too.
It's so nice to have you helping unsuspecting coin collectors. So many people even dealers sell these people garbage for high prices. I can honestly say that this makes me very sad and angry. We must inform every collector to buy books on coins to see the price they are really worth. Thank you zDan. Your still as handsome as ever ❤
Every coin is a page from history. And it has traveled to you in bags and boxes and people's pockets. And most importantly in the Hands of untold millions of human beings. I am thrilled to hold and Adore them and think about the folks who held them. And fakes are lies about history, it's why it's a federal offense to counterfeit! Well, I think! LoL❤
In the world of ancient numismatics, several reference pages maintain lists of Fake and Unscrupulous sellers. Maybe folks should start creating similiar lists for US/World coins and making them public also.
My biggest tip. Do you own research. Don’t let people with profit motives into your decision making process. That goes for coins, cars, investments, whatever.
Daniel, your not the type to let anyone get under your skin, your so helpfull, with all your information. We thank you. A sincere thankfull, happy coin collector. Have a great day 😊
Just keep “doing you” my man as I know there are 1000’s of eyes on your videos that appreciate your expertise and videos daily! Cheers from Florida and Happy New Years too!
After looking at the listings on ebay, everyone list error coins and never describe the error, Because there isn't one! That alone put me off on being a collector. Pick a year, any year any coin and there will be a ton of error coins for that year and its just not true. To many thieves to deal with. So I choose not to get involved with that
I 100% agree with you on this Daniel. Coin collecting is under attack with all these companies selling fake coins and others scamming on the weak minded people who are not educated on what’s authentic or fake. I always recommend researching your item before buying. I help out in any way I can to get them the right information. I’ll be joining this war against these companies pushing fake coins. Thanks for posting this.
That’s why you’re so eloquent and so well spoken. You were a prison guard you have to explain in great detail of whatever it may be to absolute monkeys. I get why you’re so assertively well spoken. As an ex felon and someone communicates well I can appreciate that.
eBay seems to be a scammer´s paradise... About 50% of the raw coins I earlier purchased from so-called recognized dealers with high feedback ratings were cleaned, tooled, scratched, or PVC-polluted according to PCGS grading results. The problem with eBay is the short and limited window for leaving feedback, which expires before coins are returned from grading.
This is the third video I ever saw of yours and I'm glad I saw it. I got to know you're point of view of things. I love coin collecting too I've been collecting since I was seven and I'm 42. ❤️
Daniel I have been collecting since I was a kid. I have learned more from you over the past 4 years than my previous 56 years. I appreciate your integrity and knowledge my friend
I watch coin shows TV all the time. Been watching them now for over 15 years. I record and watch them later. However I never buy from them I know they are a rip off but they keep me interested in the hobby. What gets me is I was watching a coin show last night that I don’t usually watch and they were selling a gold 1oz coin for $6k. As you say you can sell a coin for whatever you want. The problem I have on this particular sale is the item they are calling a coin was really a round. It’s not a coin it’s a round. The Smithsonian does not produce coins. It makes me mad that they are lying to people about what they are selling and the amount is a felony for them to anyone who bought this. I don’t understand how they can get away with it.
The Franklin Mint is so obviously bogus, I can't believe that someone could fall for those pieces. That Au Buffalo nickel CLAD in .41 mgs of pure .9999 Au. Plus, they use a picture of the real thing.
Can't we get laws passed to make this illegal. These coins they advertise at $1500 as a rare error and they are normal everyday coins. I'm pissed and want this regulated. What can we do?
The biggest pet peve I have about (some) coin CZcams channels (the content farms) is that they often make it seem like these errors and varieties are easy to find and everywhere. It's not even close to everyone just a few channels but they completely overlook the fact that a lot of these varieties are ridiculously and impossibly hard to find in pocket change. A lot of us new collectors don't realize it at first. They think it's a nice good way to make money. That's how me and my friend started out. After a few months I came to the realization that it's not a get-rich-quick-scheme and I'm okay with that because it's fun at the end of the day. But some videos are a little misleading. At least that's my opinion.
PS. I have been watching a lot of your videos for about a year now and totally never knew you were a prison guard. That must have been a humbling experience. Much love man ❤️
I watch your channel and you have great information. I agree that Ebay and etsy have people who are ripping off people. They either don't know coin values or hope others don't know value of coins. Example 1967 Canadian Centennial penny. They are asking a ridiculous amount for it. Over 345 million were minted that year. When I see it again I will contact Ebay and inform them of this. Thank you.

The coin geek is absolutely amazing.
Your presentations are excellent, I've learned from them. Your insight, knowledge and expertise is appreciated. Started stacking generic silver which made me appreciate bullion coins, now I'm all up on vintage US coins. There really is something for everyone.
Stack on.
OR
collect on.
Excellent video, you do a great service and speak with passion, Take care.
Appreciate your efforts. I hate scammers and people who take advantage of people.
Peace🙏🕉️
Thank you for being so insightful and honest about what's going on
People can't help but see how much you truly love the hobby. Thanks for being such a positive influence. Also, I agree.... Ben @ The Coin Geek is a must watch too.
I definitely support your efforts. The Direct TV coin infomercials are quite bad too! The "Chopper" is the worst!
Thank you, telling the Truth
Keep doing what you are doing . You help me understand the hobby of coin collecting or Numismatists.keep fighting the good fight .
Thanks Mike
Every coin is a page from history. And it has traveled to you in bags and boxes and people's pockets. And most importantly in the Hands of untold millions of human beings. I am thrilled to hold and Adore them and think about the folks who held them. And fakes are lies about history, it's why it's a federal offense to counterfeit! Well, I think! LoL❤
In the world of ancient numismatics, several reference pages maintain lists of Fake and Unscrupulous sellers. Maybe folks should start creating similiar lists for US/World coins and making them public also.
Thank you for speaking the truth. ✌️
My biggest tip. Do you own research. Don’t let people with profit motives into your decision making process. That goes for coins, cars, investments, whatever.
The information you give us about our hobby is invaluable... Thank you for all you do...👍👍
A very thoughtful and insightful message. Five stars!
Thank you, Daniel, for all of your videos. I have learned a great deal from them 🇨🇦
THANK YOU. SO MUCH, LET EM HAVE IT. BLESS YOU. YOU'VE HELPED ME, YOUR SO RIGHT.
Thank you, stay blessed and Happy Holidays!🙏🏾
Yes the coin geek has great honest videos!
We all need to crackdown on scams
This is the third video I ever saw of yours and I'm glad I saw it. I got to know you're point of view of things. I love coin collecting too I've been collecting since I was seven and I'm 42. ❤️
Keep up the good fight Daniel. Me and many others support you.
You have helped me from buying a coin that was bad over priced and I thank you for it.
I really appreciate what you do. Thanks hopefully one day we will get to were people will start doing the right thing.
Great channel, I've learned a ton here. Thank you for all you do!
You're the man , man!!!❤ 😎
Daniel I have been collecting since I was a kid. I have learned more from you over the past 4 years than my previous 56 years. I appreciate your integrity and knowledge my friend
Thank you!
Appreciate all you do, thank you for all the information/education that you share with us.
Thanks for your hard work Mr. D.
You have helped our hobby tons Daniel ! Hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Thanks for all you have done for everyone...thank you...your doing a great job
💯 Agree that with the amount of fakes, fomo and shady practices by LCS dealers or private sellers can and will ruin the hobby.
Big like number 882! Excellent video and thank you so much for sharing
Daniel you've done so much for this hobby. Lots of good information from you, reaching a lot of us newer collectors. Thank you for your service 🙏
Thank you.
Thank you for your truth and honesty. Best wishes for a prosperous New Year!
Just started to get deeper into coin gathering appreciate your videos.
Coin geek is the man. I love his channel
