@@delightfulsunny that’s just your experience. You're an evil, evil man. Now you have me hooked on this hobby. What's worse, I can hear your voice in my head as I'm picking each pin: "click out of 1, nothing on 2, click out of 3, ..."
The first time I managed to open a crucifix lock, I instantly got the pins locked in the 90° clockwise position. The key would no longer fit the lock. Haha, panic set in for a second. I had used a single raking method to open the 🔐 lock. Fortunately, I managed to reverse the pick with the same raking strategy, but in reverse. Anti CW. Hey @LockPickingLawyer. Thanks to your videos, I picked 4-5 cupboard locks at work that we had no keys. Didn't have any proper tools, so I made a tension wrench and a pick from paperclips. That was one fun day. And I also bought the pick set from video 318 to get me started on a new hobby. :D Edit: Just to mention, my boss asked me to try, since I opened one that we took off from one of the cupboards.
I have done that a couple of times in my office. I have used a wrong key to bump or rake the locks using the key as a tensioning tool. I had a good laugh, when someone came to ask me to open her cupboard with the master key she had heard I have.
A few years back someone smashed in an outside window one weekend and stole a bunch of stuff from a locked office in the plant where I worked. The management considered that the prime suspect was the owner of the office, since the door had been locked and "nobody else had a key" (other than the janitors, guards, maintenance staff, and secretaries). They didn't seem to notice that the window had been smashed in, and when it was pointed out to them, they wanted to charge the office owner for destroying company property. Moral: don't expect even rudimentary intelligence from office management.
Chinese manufacturers use these Cruciform style barrels quite extensively on cheap domestic wall safes and incorporated into a number of door cylinder and padlock designs too. Good for honing your SPP skills. A rake makes it all too easy for picking practice, but excellent for field use.
I got it! I've been racking my brain about who your voice sounds like and I finally got it. Keep in mind, I've never seen your face on any of your videos. If anyone has seen the TV Show "Fresh Off The Boat", listen to the father's voice. The LockPickingLawyer sounds just like him.
Until recently tools like these were not easy to obtain legally and didn't exist in online stores, now thanks to the Chinese, there are countless amounts of cheaply made, low tolerance lock-manipulating tools to choose from. A good locksmith still won't blame his cheap Chinese tools! LOL
I would just like to say that due to your videos i bought myself some lockpicks and am trying to learn picking myself. Currently browsing ebay for some cheap lock cores so i can practice.
Wow! I used to live in China where many apartments had metal doors that unlock with a cruciform key. I always felt so safe. Know I am beginning to wonder. 😅😅
Few manufacturers ever brought to market, a design that included a proprietary tool to circumnavigate the mechanism. The rest of the world just loves a challenge! ♥
Wow. I have a very old version of one of these. I've tried for 30 years to get a new key made for it. Not a single Smith has ever been able to make one.
I had a heck of respect of these keys and never considered picking such locks. But as usual it just takes the right tool. If I won't be seen soon I was probably caught fiddling with the lockers at my bank.
During WW2 in some of the German POW camps they started to use these locks. I'm not sure if they were difficult for POWs to pick, but they never successfully duplicated the keys... At least not for a long time.
I guess for ordinary uses this core is alright coz lpl said it is time consuming and also that tool is very unique and not everybody has one of them. My steering wheel lock is this type.
Thanks for the review. To SPP this lock is a pretty time consuming challenge for any enthusiast. Have you ever tried using the more commonly purchased simple 4-legged wire rake to open one of these locks? I also found a snapper and electric rake doesn't have much luck on this type of lock either.
Wonder if its possible to make it in such a way that you also have to press down the end of the chamber to get rotation so that you can't turn it without some third or second tool in there
Sure they could, but that would cost extra. The average consumer would look at a similiar product without the added security feature and save themselves a small amount and purchase the cheaper. Example ... Who would ever buy a warded lock to protect anything ? The answer is someone who doesn't know better and wants an inexpensive option.
Not unless they're willing to consider the cost involved in completely redesigning a globally exported mass produced Chineseum Landfillium lock for the sake of slightly improved security?
even if it did have one, like i believe the schlage primus has, you still would only need 2 tools at one time. as long as you hold your tension, the pins would stay picked, and you could press that pin at the end of the chamber. you could also maybe do it before you start raking so that it turns when you're done.
First... GREAT channel! Love your videos! Great job! Second... Is there a lock you haven't been able to pick? Third... You could call it LPL Lock Co.? lol just a thought.
I have been watching your videos for awhile. Very interesting. While you do all your lock picking in your shop, I wonder what picking locks in real life on the streets would look like. What kind of tools would you carry? If you came across a lock you were not prepared for but needed to pick? If you came across a lock in the open public? It took him one of them talking about the lock. One minute for the long way around and 10 seconds for the short way.
Very interesting 4 way rake - I've never seen that tool before.
Woah.. mind blown. I wonder how expansive that tool is given so few locks are in that configuration.

Except next time something gets "misplaced" in the office, you will be the first choice when searching for suspects :)
MasterBata I have thought of that and I’ve made it known, that the locks are jokes, that anyone can open with almost no skill whatsoever.

Those damn raking attacks! :)
That was rather time consuming. It almost took me as long to pick it as it would’ve taken you to find the key and open it. ✌🏻
About 5 SECONDS with the raking tool. Super Secure.

Without a complex design, such a feature would probably just act as another pin that binds and could be picked using standard lockpicking techniques.
