      That is pretty brainless. Those who make statements like that and agree with it, use but a minute fraction of their brains ability to actually think. Metal was coming, with or without Sabbath. LED ZEPPELIN had already infused the sound into some of their songs. DEEP PURPLE did also. What you feebles want and wish are not the same as what actually is, and in this case what was SOON coming. Led Zeppelin influenced the metal that came soon after.

    • @markuse3472
      @markuse3472 Před 4 lety

      @Cryptic Hippie Not so. For me, not influenced by pop culture stupidity, it Iron Maiden and Metallica who "perfected" metal. Again: what Sabbath did was sound darker. What Zeppelin did was influence all that that was to come. But also Sabbath. But from what I have seen and read, it is Led Zeppelin who was first influencing all the hard rock (of all forms) that was to come. Lyrics and imagery have NOTHING to do with metal and it is totally like pop culture foolishness you saying those two are vital for what metal is : metal is the sound. There are plenty Love/Relationship metal songs. Do a speed metal song about love, peace, uplifting, whatever, it IS going to be metal. Lyrics and image are stupidity to be labeled a reason for metal to be metal. Led Zeppelin were the first. But pop culture is obviously your real source for an education so go figure.

    The lead guitarist, Tony Iommi, invented heavy metal. On the day he was due to leave his factory job to be a full time musician a work accident sliced the tips of some of his fingers off. He thus had to change the way he played, producing this heavy sound. The beat created came from the iron and steel mills where he lived in Birmingham. The giant heavy hammers from the mills could be heard across the city with this heavy rhythmic thudding.

    • @Watching4Fun_
      @Watching4Fun_ Před 4 lety +4

      Just to add a little. Tony's fingers are very sensitive so he has to tune his guitar lower than normal so the strings don't bother them. In a normal E tuning the strings are rather tight and can cut into the skin if your fingers are not accustomed to it. This is why it is so hard for guitarists that are just learning to play, to get the sound right. Because they are not playing with the same tuning.

    I never saw OZZY with Black Sabbath until OzzFEST BUT I did see Randy Rhoads last show Thursday March 18th 1982: Knoxville Tn The Knoxville Civic Coliseum: UFO was the opener and one of the greatest shows ever put on! John Allen (called Ronnie to make fun of Ronnie James Dio at the time was Black Sabbath’ replacement for Ozzy) handed out water and towels to Ozzy between songs and was later hung during Goodbye to Romance. At the end Ozzy was on a giant mechanical Hand throwing meat 🍖 🥩 into the audience! Got lucky my tour shirt was tucked into my jacket! CRIED LIKE A BABY the following morning when we all heard Randy was killed in a plane crash😢😢😢😭😭😭 THE MEMORIES LINGER TO THIS DAY! Hard to believe 40 years ago this past March! RIP RANDY YOU’LLNEVER BE FORGOTTEN!

    Black Sabbath and Led Zep influenced EVERY metal band that came during and after them. Zep because of the blues influence and Sabbath because f the pure heaviness of the riff and beat. Bands that are being influenced today by 90s and 2000s bands are actually being influence by them as the originators.

    You talked about production, I think today production takes the place of what then was raw talent and energy, they invented the sound everyone try's to mimic with production, and they did it with 4 guys and a couple of amps, mikes & P A ,just my opinion though, they invented METAL!

    Your comment about it not being a big production is spot on. Most of the bands of that era just loved to play and that's all that was needed. The more theatrical bands had their own niche. That changed by the end of the '70's.

    I know it's an old post but as far as influencing. Black Sabbath and Ozzy Started Heavy metal. Toni Tommi Invented the power cord. And it was half a mistake. He worked at a plant in England. And cut off the tips of his fingers on his playing hand in a shop accident. He put homemade thimbles to his injured fingers to extend and protect them; the thimbles were made from an old Fairy Liquid bottle - "melted it down, got a hot soldering iron and shaped it like a finger" - and cut sections from a leather jacket to cover his new homemade prosthetic fingertips and the power cord was born. With Bill Wards massive drumming and Geezer Butlers insane revolutionary bass playing. you put them all together with Ozzy's vocals and Metal was born. Some of the stuff they were playing in 1969 to this day still inspires and challenges all different forms of metal. And has since Black Sabbaths inception.

    Can you believe this was filmed a HALF CENTURY ago? Sabbath has all the building blocks for metal to come right here. The Doom confused lyrics, the deeply saturated distortions, the advanced musicianship, it's all here. It's in a rough and Primal state... But it is undeniable. Even little things like the drummer using his Jazz influence in the way he interacts with the guitar solo, he's not just playing a straightforward beat he's reacting to the note choices and the phrasing Iommi is doing. In real time. And if you listen at the last solo the drummer is almost playing a blast beat (17 years before Napalm Death or Terrorizer would "invent" that drumming style btw) because he's playing in time to guitar phrases that Iommi is ripping thru. You guys both called it in that the band was the show in this era. And it says something about the audience back then as well. They would gather just to hear great musicians take them somewhere through music, it seems like their attention span in those days was a lot longer. Thank-you Sabbath. I am reminded of something Travis said in a reaction to early Judas Priest... It is much easier for bands today who have the established metal rule book laid out for them, but these bands we're building one brick at a time using their influences like Blues, Elvis, Etc... I absolutely love the history of metal. Thanks guys.

    Bill Ward the drummer beats those drums like they owe him money....... At this concert they moved from one song to the next, non-stop... At one point everyone went off stage and Ward kept on playing. Maybe they had to pee...??? They came back out and continued the show. It was just unreal how good it was. Ward along with the others set the bar, so to speak. At what a rock concert was supposed to be like. Plus the sound! They were first in several areas of this style of music!!!!! You two are a pair of young pups.... For your information I saw Sabbath in concert in the mid 1970's. They were different in that they did not pause between songs. It was play last note and go into the next song with no pause or end. These days John Ozzie has a difficult time putting an sentence together. YET when he sings you hear and understand everything.. They played straight thru song after song no stops. When everyone left but Bill Ward the drummer. Bill continued to beat those drums like they owed him money. I have often pondered if he had chemical help.??? Tony did not jump around, he just played the hell out of that guitar. Ozzie & Geezer jumped around a lot. This was one of the best concerts I ever went to. They were great.....
