At 1:50,he (or she) pressed command on Mac.But if you are a WINDOWS user like me, you need to chose the layer and press Ctrl to MAKE a selection. Then you will see the layer you chose surrounded by a line with gaps. It took me a while to know this. xD but i think we got different PTS version, so u can click on the layer that u want and go to Select -> Subject instead. It works as well
