- Candies and bars not in the US? Some of these look so good!
I'll share which British sweets on this "Top 10" list I've had before, no never hearing about before.
Which sweets on or off of this list are your favorite? - Sport
Crunchy is probably the best chocolate bar ever invented and i'll fight anyone who disagrees 😋 Also Jaffa Cakes are dangerous for your waistline (if you like orange/chocolate combo) - you're not eating one or two, the whole pack at once is not an uncommon experience hehehe
EDIT: BTW your American Smarties look VERY similar to our "Love Hearts" sweets! - can't confirm if they are the same as not tried US version but they do look alike.
There was a HUGE court case involving Jaffa Cakes years ago, the government had a higher tax on biscuits as opposed to cakes.
They actually defined what differences are between cakes and biscuits, a cake is soft when fresh and hardens when stale, a biscuit is hard when fresh and softens when stale.
We have these Jaffa Cakes in Germany. I really liked them as a kid. I always ate the chocolate first, then take the filling off, eat the sponge cake and after that i would eat the filling. I don't know if i am the only one, but i always ate them that way :D
That’s exactly how I used to eat them as well😂 The orange jelly is the best part, you’ve gotta save best ‘til last👍
I had no idea Jaffa Cakes were even known that well outside the UK, let alone being a part of another country's culture! 😲 Germans like orange+chocolate confirmed! 😄
Jaffa cakes and a cup of tea - heaven🤣
Jaffa cakes look and sound delicious! Althought I'm not much of a tea drinker. Perhaps coffee will be heavenly as well?
Bought a twin box of Jaffa cakes on Saturday. Ate the two boxes driving home. No crumbs or messy finger. Just pop them in your mouth - heaven in a packet.
@@margaretpearson2761 Lol! I'm with yoou there. I think though there should be a law against selling twin packs of Jaffa cakes.
@@californianreacts You can get Jaffa cakes in some Aldi stores in the US.
@@californianreacts Just quickly dip into tea or coffee or you might just find it falling into your drink! Other biscuits that are harder can withstand a little longer dip (or dunk) but as they are spongy/chocolaty they can't take much tea/coffee. Better still just eat them as they are then have your tea/coffee 😃
The chocolate in Minstrels is very high quality. To compare them to M&M's is an insult.
I haven't had minstrels for aaaggesss. I must get a pack yum
From the reactors I've watched, USA seems to have a problem with orange flavour with their chocolate. They are probably just not used to it but I've even seen a couple spit out Jaffa Cakes in disgust! Utter sacrilege if you ask me.
I think it's simply coz it's not a common combination over there - we brits frikkin love orange with though ^^
Adore Jaffa cakes, bought a 12 box a few days ago, ended up all gone later that night. "Half moon, full moon, total eclipse (mouth full)😂"
I still like "A finger of fudge is just enough" from Cadburys. Even though in the 1970s, the small Cadburys Fudge bar was aimed at parents cutting down on their kids sweets.
I sent jaffa cakes to an American friend. She is now hooked that I send her a few boxes every other month. Lol
There are stores in America that sell British foods and sweets.
Star bar or lion bar are great uk chocolate. Picnic nice too
Whenever my third son, who lives in London, sends me a box of "tuck", I ask him to include Jaffa Cakes (Orange), and rose flavoured Fry's chocolate covered Turking Delight. I can buy HobNobs here already. 😋
Crunchie, Aero, Maltesers, Wine Gums, and Smarties (the non-US style - M&Ms were copied from Smarties) are available in just about every corner store in Canada. What are called Smarties in the US are called Rockets in Canada.
Kit Kat was created in York England and first sold in 1920, with the US only getting them in 1940.
Wine Gums were created as part of the temperance movement as an alternative to Alcohol.
Jaffa cakes should steal the pringles slogan "once you pop you just can't stop".
Wine Gums should be renamed British Hard Gums for the American market
What McVities describe as "that smashing orange bit" inside a Jaffa Cake, is NOT jam - it's just an orange flavoured jelly.
Advice: Don't even think about 'dunking' a Jaffa Cake in your brew! If you do, three things will happen:
1) The chocolate will melt, causing your tea or coffee to stop tasting like tea or coffee 🤨
2) The sponge will transform into a kind of sludge that just sinks to the bottom of your cup 🥴
3) The 'smashing orangey bit will somehow pass through a galactic worm hole and disappear, presumably into an alternate universe! 😵💫
Flake and Crunchie bars when I was a boy were currency to buy comics and friends.
You guessed right - we do have Kit Kats in the UK. Afterall, they were first produced here in the 1930s!
I rarely eat chocolate now and if I do, I'm actually a bit of a chocolate snob. I only eat high cocoa count chocolate (like 70% and above). But back in the day I loved all Galaxy chocolate, finding it richer and creamier than Cadbury's.
These are GREAT choices in my mind. LOVE Maltesers, Crunchies, and Chunky Kit-Kat's are SO addictive !! As you mentioned, the UK Kit-Kat's taste SO MUCH BETTER than the US ones which have that strange, plastic chocolate that you can peel off the wafer, ugh !! Smarties from memory as smaller than M&M's but the chocolate again is WAY better. The UK is definitely WAY AHEAD of the US in terms of sweets (candy), biscuits (cookies), and crisp varieties and flavours (chips.)
Which of these sweets (and bars) should I attempt to get and try? 🍬🍫💈
I was actually at a store in central California a few weeks back and they had different countries and their sweets. I believe I saw two of these on the list there but next time I'll absolutely pick some up!
Try the Jaffa Cakes, they are really good.
All of them, but my number 1 recommendation would be jaffa cakes #nom 💗
Definitely Jaffa Cakes - You'll eat the whole box.
You need a p o box for people to send you things.
@@angelavara4097 yes, he does need one, I went looking to see if he did have one but i couldn't find any details
Smarties predate M&Ms they were created in 1937 here, one of the makers of M&M I can't remember which M it was came to the UK found them and took the idea back to the US, launching them in 1941. They taste different sure, but M&Ms are a big seller even have M&M world in London
Jaffa cakes do not have a jam/jello filling, the filling is marmalade.
I bought Jaffa cakes in the US at Aldi, it is definitely jelly
@@marydavis5234 It is not jelly, marmalade has very similar texture to jelly/jam but it is not jelly/jam, trust me i lived 100 meters from MacFarlane Laings and have even been inside the factory for a tour and they themselves said it was marmalade (not that i needed to be told because everybody already knew it). For once just trust someone who actually knows what they are talking about.
Yup. They said the same on tele a few weeks ago when "inside the factory" was done at the mcvities factory doing Jaffa cakes.
@@michaelsmith8107 Idk how there are people who think it is jam lol, apart from the fact that it is definately marmalade, i have never ever even seen or heard of an orange jam...if it is orange it is marmalade.
Starbar for me is the King of chocolate bars.
Welease Wodger.
Strange to see biscuits and jaffa cakes in a video about British sweets.
I understand an American came to the U.K. during ww2 and tried smarties ,when he got back to the states created m&ms ??
The Jaffa cakes:::: no thanks cannot stand them lol
Only Smarties have the answer!
Smarties area like M and Ms, but much better.
Better chocolate inside, and a different ratio of sugary shell to chocolate.
aero good lord i havent had that in ages, (i've had uk smarties but not usa smarties and yeah they're like m&ms), kitkat chunky is good too, (i hate maltesers GOSH),
the usa smarties sound like skittles ew
Yep. We get CRUNCHIE BARS in Australia.
Yep we get AERO Bars,
Yep, we get SMARTIES. LOVE Smarties;
Yep we have Kit Kat that used to be made by Rowntree;
Yep we have Fry's Chocolate bars;
OH YES, we have Malteser;
OHHH YYYESSSSS!!!WINE GUMS. Haven't seen them in a while but some shops do carry British Sweets.
Yep we have Rowntree Fruit Pastilles
Yep we have FLAKE Bars (I don't care for those)
We don't have Jaffa Cakes in Australia but we DO HAVE JAFFA sweets. A small ball of chocolate, the size of a marble, wrapped in an Orange flavoured shell. The old saying goes that when in a cinema, the youth of our day used to roll jaffas down the Aisle in the Theatre.
MY FAVOURITE IS ALL OF THEM EXCEPT...............FLAKE!
To be honest, I would have booted Jaffa Cakes into the 'honerable mentions' section. It is one that has a cult status but I would usually go for an alternative snack when offered.
These are sweets not candy please explain what candy is
This video would be better if you ordered some in to try for yourself.
You really do need to remove that large microphone out of your face. It simply looks ridiculus! Do you really need the headphones as well? Are you trying to hide?
British treats. Sugar, awful chocolate and chemicals.
You're describing American treats matey, the UK has very strict laws on using chemicals and shit in their food and drinks. That is why the UK have far less nutjobs...no crap in our food and drink. I mean America pumps anti-biotics into their cattle...enough said.
You have messed up which country has alot of these these. America puts way more sugar and chemicals in their treats. Sugar is taxed heavily in our treats (UK), so companies put less of it in them. Most treats from the States are banned in Europe because of the type of chemicals that are in them (ones that can cause cancer etc), they can be sold here if they are taken out. We do put some chemicals in our treats, but there has to be a warning on the packet with side effects listed. The reason real Cadbury's chocolate isn't really allowed to be sold in the States is because it is better. Also we don't put a chemical in our chocolate that is found in vomit that makes the chocolate taste abit like it too (Hersey's chocolate).
Wham filling rippers 🤣
