Our friends Julia & Caroline of @ladyofthechateau hosted us for a wonderful evening at their new (ancient) Chateau Puy Vidal. What a wonderful welcome, and tour of a beautiful home!
Stephen was in car lover's heaven as a classic car rally, Tour Auto 2022 drove through town, showcasing some really beautiful fast cars. Finally, Stephen put in a good day's mowing, and captured some beautiful DJI drone footage.

Sara, an IT professional & Stephen a graphic designer and artist are world travelling Canadians who dreamt of moving to Europe, and France in particular. In 2020 they were working from home when Stephen turned to Sara and popped the question she was longing to hear, “What would have to be true for us to buy a chateau in France?” They searched online for months viewing hundreds of properties. They narrowed their search and toured some properties when they happened upon the one that captured our hearts, Chateau de Saint Germain des Pres. A year later they made the move to France to start their new adventure in our beautiful Chateau. They created “Manor and Maker” to reflect the two sides of their adventure. One, to live as chateau owners with all the ups and downs and two, to pursue their passions as makers, creating art in all its forms. It would make for a spectacularly 💖 romantic photograph. With Stephen's 🖌painting🎨 talent, I bet he could easily transform it into a portrait that could grace your Château as well.

True but I also think the fun of buying a chateau would be shopping for all the lovely bits to decorate it yourself. It's great that they were able to purchase existing furniture, but that would take some of the fun out of it for me I think.....

I’m a 65 yo grandma & my Dad’s love of cars came to me.
He had an off white w red interior 1956 or 7(?)
Thunderbird!
It had the circular back side windows.
We owned it for about 30 days, bc my Mom threw a fit & demanded a family car.
Ended up with a Navy Ford
(Boat). 🤨
I’ve dreamed my whole life of finding my Daddy’s car.
He’s been gone 23 years. 🥲

Hello Steve & Sara, I have to agree Julia & Carolina do own a magnificent Chateau. If I were there, I would just go weak at the knees. I wish them all the very best and that they will be most happy living in such a unbelievable beautiful place. They are two beautiful people in personality and speaking. Well, letsw come back to you. Thank you for sharing your lovely stay, being back at your own place will make you very grateful I am sure. Thinking back, did you ever thought of living there? Look at what you have achieved. Looking down from the drone pictures, you have the most beautiful trees growing, and the wooded area is so precious, it has taken those many many years to grow like that, and the different colours of green and green/grey foliage, that is just nature in all her glory. I also think in going visiting other Chateau owners, you also get inspired to decorate with new ideas that will work in your rooms. This a lovely video many blessings and kin regards.

Beautiful vlog, Sarah and Steven, but odly my favourite part were the cars!!! We drove, when we were in Biaritz 3 weeks ago, to Bilbao, to see Guggenheim Museum and they had a temporary exposition "Cars through time"! OMG, there were unique cars, some avant-garde cars at their time, but they were all jewels! I was just like you, Steve, in awe all the time!!!! Loved the vlog, thank you so much!!!!🥰🥰🥰

Gorgeous Chateau. I remember when Stephanie went to look at it and did a video. Beautiful inside and outside and nice not to have to do so much work, so can really enjoy it and have guests, if that is what their plans are.

It was the cars that drew me in to subscribe and like. LOL! I’ve followed Stephanie for awhile without getting involved, but the fact that you can stand outside your chateau (I mean - CHATEAU!!) and see and hear magnificent vintage British, Italian, and German autos - instant love!
Loved the cars. Great to see your friends Chateau. I remember Chateau Diaries exploring the property for them. What a lovely couple with great ideas for the future.
Amazing video. I hope that your new friends are taking notes. I believe it would be very beneficial so as not to forget one little suggestion or thing that they have to do. Wow your chateau and surrounding area looks lovely. The chateau we visited is amazing, its overwhelming. Didn't look as if any work needs doing and to think all the contents were already in situ. In the ante room along with Sarah’s suggestion of a monitor with an itinerary of the days events and room details you could have a table with seminar notes for daily sessions and perhaps floor plans with room names for sessions and perhaps ideas and locations with directions for daily outings.
Perhaps also menus of meals and picnic baskets with meal ordering forms. The buffet for coffee tea etc could be laid next door to one side of the breakfast room thus keeping the day time meals and snacks to one room.
Amazing chateau visit. And my 4 year old looooves the Mercedes 300SL. He was loud with excitement.

We have followed Julia & Carolina’s channel since the first video. Julia’s Father, Mother, and Sister will also be moving over when things are sold and settled in California. They sure got a diamond in their chateau. How lucky for you two to be the first guest.

Wow you guys, that was a great vlog to eat my breakfast by here in B.C., Canada. Love the tour of the Chateau, the cars...my husband and I were car nuts in our youth. Way back when we owned a Mini Cooper S and a Bug Eye Sprite....I remember coming up to speed bumps, just as the cars in the vlog were doing...we had to crawl over them as the cars were so low. Before I met him he was stationed in France and he frequented these rallies. Thanks for the memories.
Oh it is lovely to see the situation of your Chateau. Lovely grounds near the village. I can imagine the land across the road being open for village fates etc for the general community. Quite lovely and your Chateau is has all the elements one would want and looks very manageable (apart from al the resto work of course)

Quite interesting video and I was so happy with the car segment. My late husband was a rally driver and later raced. It's always a breath-holding moment for me when the speed-bumps show up and on a curve! The drivers who know the exact clearance of the undercarriage and the skill in negotiating that area was so wonderful. The engines made me smile. My only giggle was the comment about the Alfa-Romeo. We had one in the garage & it sat there more often than it ran. What a view you had! Such a delight. (Yes, I used to drive with the wind blowing through my hair.)
I wondered why these thorough-bred cars were so tenderly navigating the speed bumps and then I remembered their under-carriages.

SO excited to see your collaborations with Julia and Caroline get on!! It would be great to enlist talent from other chateaus, like Selmar and Tatiana to offer dance instruction, maybe Andie Wieringa could offer a watercolor class, Sean (and Sarah!!) could run a costume construction workshop, or Marie Wiik a flower arranging experience...just spitballing...lol!
Sarah I love your idea to list the itinerary on a screen in an in between space as a sort of "self guided escort service" to help folks navigate. You could have more moments like throughout the chateau-that would be in the in between spaces-to help folks find breakfast, their bedroom etc.. That would make everyone feel more at ease and be able to enjoy the grander rooms in between and the chatelains wouldn't have to go mad trying to keep up guiding the participants and enjoy themselves as well.
It would also be amazing to have traditional 17th (18th?) Century dance instruction...and to have a living history event there. My old production company produced a few at a manor here on Long Island, NY, US. It was owned by one of the Vanderbilt families: one of the 100 richest families in America during the Gilded Age. As a promotional event, we hired actors to portray people of the day-providing them with dossiers on their character, and traditional dance instructors gave instruction,...Such Fun!! I was sad to be producing because I wanted to be in a pretty gown swirling and twirling with the rest of them!!!

Love their ideas for their chateau (Julia and Caroline)! That is cool about Lafayette! He got around! We have squares in Savannah named for him and houses famous for windows where he gave rousing speeches! Steve found a great spot to see all the cars that had to go over those odd speed bumps! Next year, you will have to plan a party to watch the cars go by! love the drone shots of you chateau!

I hope you're going to Angouleme for the circuits des remparts, even if you don't have tickets to watch the race. Saturday afternoon is great to just sit in a cafe and watch all the cars as they start to arrive, and Sunday the streets are just filled with all manor of vintage and new cars
