- As the lovely buds of spring begin to bloom all over the château grounds, the family settles in to life together at Château de Puy Vidal. Penelope cooks Ramen for everyone, they have their first "team chateau" family meeting in France.
The whole family is summoned to their Architects office for the first presentation of 3 different possibilities of renovations. Afterwards, they go to a Michelin star restaurant to celebrate. The Lady of the Chateau applied for Penelopes "work certificate" to begin sponsoring her as an employee. Robert mulls over the renovation plans until he has a brilliant idea!

I love your dad's idea for the kitchen and dining room placement. It makes far more sense than the other plans which all seem to force solutions that don't really work well. And, I would definitely create a terrace area off the dining area for pre-dinner drinks.

Ladies, your videos keep getting better and better. I love that you incorporate both planned and impromtu conversations, as it makes it feel less formal. Papa and Penelope are adding their own "flavor" to the videos. I think the new locations for the kitchen and dining rooms will be perfect. I especially love that you're including us in the planning/brainstorming stages...that way the final changes offer a much larger payoff for the audience. Your videos make me so happy! I love your father’s idea of placement of the dining room & kitchen…it simply makes sense, and having the china room right there fits so well! To repurpose the Grande Salon would be such a shame as it is the heart of the home, and is so beautiful as is!

I love your channel because you are such genuine, smart and kind people. Not appearing to act for the camera. The glimpses into you life, beautiful Maruca saying that meditation has been intrinsic to her, Robert saying that he's not as stable walking as on his bike... I loved it that the professionals came out with three different concepts for the renovations and in the end it was Robert who figured out the best location for the kitchen and dining room. Everybody's passion gets an outlet, and all these outlets flow together into a loving and interesting joint life in a gorgeous setting.

Well, yes, except the sleepless nights have been a bit tedious. It was mostly jet lag caused by a nine hour difference from where I moved from. But that particular sleepless night was brilliant. Thank you for your comment.

The proposed location for the new kitchen and dining room is ideal! You already have plumbing nearby for a dishwashing station and a scullery for kitchen equipment cleaning and laundry of dining room linen. With the China room nearby for linen and China storage. You could have some buffets for storage along the dining room walls for storing glassware and cutlery that could be used as waiting stations for holding food and wine ready for serving and for use when clearing tables.
Well done Robert! Brilliant idea. Perhaps you could keep the current kitchen and dining room for private use by the family for eating and a tv room when off duty. You may not wish to use the main kitchen and dining room for everyday family use.
I must admit it surprises me somewhat that the architects didn’t see this solution. Robert to the rescue! And just off the plane too! 👏🏻👏🏻😍

If you make a small terrace just outside near the hedging it would be great for pre and post dining drinks. Perhaps lower the hedging to waist height to allow views unless needed for protection from wind.

Perfect the West Wing Dining Room and Kitchen across the way. Having dinner in front of fire when it’s cold and French doors open when it’s lovely out. Uplights glowing under the trees outside the French doors at night. Wine set up by the historical window. Your Dads becoming expert in French, he looks very happy there

I definitely agree with Robert’s idea and you can add a nice terrace outside the future dining room, with some smaller tables with sun umbrellas so you can have breakfast or lunch or coffee whenever the climate allows you to, with the view of the garden.😊

I like the dining room idea plus the China room is adjoining. Also you might one day add a table outside for those who want to sit outside and it’s almost private with the shrubbery. I can’t wait to see the new plans! Glad the entire family is there.

Thank you for sharing! I love the Lady of the Chateau logo and it looks great on the jackets! Between the logo and the dark color, y'all look very professional, yet welcoming, in the jackets. I love Robert''s (Ro-bear!) idea for the kitchen and dining room location. Y'all have done a good job of keeping the food service area confined to a small area. I suggest that if you move the breakfast bar in to the dining room, that you put it in a place where it cannot be seen when it is not in use (during the other meals). For entertainment, what you need are jongleurs--they juggled, performed music and drama, and did acrobatics (Penelope!). I wish the chateau had a minstrel gallery, but one can't have everything. Puy Vidal is a gorgeous chateau and y'all are doing a great job of making it livable for your family, usable for your business, and maintaining its beauty. About how long does Maruca's morning routine take? Also, when Penelope goes back where will she stay and what will she do? How long will she have to be there?
Love, love, love the idea of where the new dining room will be! I am also imagining smaller tables set up outside during the warmer months so guests can also dine outside. There could be some sort of magical outdoor lighting and of course candle-lit tables. When the dining in the summer happens outside, the food could be set up in the dining room with warming trays so that they can come in and serve themselves. Beautiful glass beverage dispensers could also be set up (the ones with little hand-turning valves) so that they can grab as much as they need. While thinking of all of this, I am also imagining wedding party dinners or wedding receptions held there.
More please! It would be great to have at least weekly videos! So excited to see upcoming renovations.
Dads,' option for the dining room is perfect and with access to the outside its perfect for al fresco dining in the summer months even in the laurel hedge alcove. Happy Spring

I would add to the idea not only for pre drinks and such, but to make a terrasse for the guests to have the option and possiblity to choose to enjoy their breakfast/brunch/lunch OUTSIDE - especially in the summer time... Kind greetings from Denmark 🤩

The Grand Salon is truly the heart and essence of what a Château means and Papa's idea about the new dining room is so perfect. I also think keeping the current kitchen is a plus because that can be used as a link for events happening at the back garden that requires food and beverages that could be way too far from the future main kitchen.
You have such creative and intelligent ideas and it's so fun to hear you bouncing the ideas off each other. The garden outside the proposed dining room is perfect for either a grazing area or petite break between dinner and desert/coffee/after dinner drinks incorporated into the meal service. Perhaps add a few benches, etc. Without being presumptuous, that outside the dining area could include roaming musicians, just separate enough from the dining experience but within "soft" ear shot of the dining indoor guests. Maybe violins, flutes, guitars, oh, my heart be still!

Perhaps you could have a terrace with a pergola just outside the dining room. Don’t know if you have the space but I’m thinking of the pergola dining area at LaLande. It would be wonderful for outside dining and even painting and other workshops as well as events and parties.

I see you all agree 👏👏👏👏👏 At first, I was very sad about what the architecture was proposing, and then my heart jumped with glee with your dad’s terrific ideas. Wouldn’t it be a good idea to get other architects ideas not just one architect? I always believe that in good business you always get three quotes three different ideas before you make a decision. Regarding cost and architectural changes. This is Major, please try not to rush into anything. Do you have to get French architects? How about other architects anywhere around the world that you could reach out to?

It’s great that Penelope found a solution her Ariel acrobat and what a great idea to have it outdoors ✋ She can stage a show that’s part of the entertainment for your guests. I saw her perform she is very good at it.
That change in dining room is perfect plus the small breakfast station can remain undesturbed You also have quick access to the patio for you outside dining. Perfect. Use the old dining room for a salon. You could also keep the old kitchen for a beverage station
you should keep the old kitchen as the family kitchen and the other kitchen should be the commercial one.

The kitchen / dining room solution has been found. Hooray for Robert's analytical strengths, determination to find a way to solve the problem. So happy to know that the grand salon will remain as it is, it would be dreadful to cut that up. Love the way things are discussed among you. Now to get back to the architects. The original kitchen / everyday dining room setup was very difficult with all of those steps. How did that evolve ? Not a great plan. Beautiful place, just beautiful, and now it will also be efficient. The kitchen is the heart of the home and should be easily accessed. Lovely video..

Your dad's idea was genius! That room will make a perfect dinning room. Maybe as you ecpand you could add dining alfesco as an option? So many possibilities! Honestly I know whatever you all choose to do it will be stunning. Good luck with the paperwork for the work visa. I am amazed at how much is involved with relocating to another country (I've barely been out of CA...)

Love the idea for the kitchen, couldn’t you make the area outside which has a hedge border, a gravel patio with seating for the guest as they come out from the dining room.
Agree with your Dad's idea 👍🏼 and in summer you can extend the dining area outside. Outdoor dining furniture will be great there for the summer. Keep the old kitchen for family members, so you all still have privacy during busy season.

Outstanding idea Dad! It would have been disastrous to cut up the grand salon. You need that room for the guests to be wowed. I would love to eat in a dinning room with a China room attached. That little room impressed me when Stephanie Jarvis showed it on the tour she made you. Hope all the work needed to change the kitchen will work out. Great place for the kitchen as well.

I love your idea of the small rooms being made into the kitchen and the lovely room with ceiling decorated as dining room. I also noticed you were filmed in the hallway which has an exit to the outdoors. Not sure what side of chateau that exit is on but in the summer and spring would it be possible to set up tables for guest to dine outside under the stars? It would be a great option if it is on a side of the chateau that has some privacy with a patio and fairy lights for the night possible an awning that can be retracted when not needed but useful if raindrops start. Just a thought.

I vote for your dad's idea! Have a way of using tables that can be rearranged in various ways for seating depending upon how many you need to seat. Even if they are utiliitarian tables that you cover with table cloths. You could have chairs that are related in design, not all necesarily matching to add character. Do not change that fabulous grand salon!

Ladies and Gentleman, Love your vlogs and your father’s placement of the kitchen and the dining room. Genius!Your mother’s idea of a u-shaped dining room table is genius as well. Both of them aced out the architect’s ideas. Lastly, I have a vision of ballet yoga in the tower. Many worldwide will sign up for lessons. You may need to find a place in the garden for another tower for lessons outdoors in the summer.

You could also look at jupe tables. Round is perfect for a square room. A jupe table seats 8 and expand to seat 18-20. It opens like a pie and the leaves are stored under the table. An engineering feat. Very classic.

I love the last idea of the dining in the smaller salon and was wondering if there were any way to spill a dining space outdoors, perhaps build a patio with a pergola/pagoda, and offer Al Fresco summer dining? Plant wysteria on the pergola, and add some nice uplighting. I can picture it, very romantic and dreamy. Very Chateau-y.
