- The Tubes headline the second Knebworth Festival 9/9/1978 with Frank Zappa, Peter Gabriel, Boomtown Rats, Wilko and Rockpile.
After the successful and groundbreaking tour of 1977, the Tubes returned to the U.K in the spring of 1978 but Fee Waybill fell off stage and broke his leg.
The band returned in the fall with this special show, it was the last Tubes show to feature full song productions from past tours 1975-1978.
Several songs were rewritten with producer Todd Rundgren for the Remote Control album released in 1979.

Knebworth '78 was one of the best festivals I ever went to... amazing.
I was there! Right at the front. Awesome stage show. Was there for Zappa and loved that set, but didn't know if I would get into these guys after a long day on the beer - but I was transfixed. Such clever musicianship combined with rock opera type visuals. Wish it was filmed! If it was, I was stage left with a massive grin on my face.
Zappa in the afternoon, followed by The Tubes at Knebworth. Never saw a car being driven on stage before or since. What a day that was! Happy memories
Saw the Tubes in Fresno, they had 2 shows that night one at 8PM and one at 11PM for adults only, like an X-rated show, fucking awesome stuff back in the day.
Awesome rock satire before Spinal Tap lol.
It was my first show I think it cost about 10,00 with travel costs included went from Feltham to Stevenage and caught a bus to knebworth with Geoff and Paul...magical day and night and what a line-up with Dave edmunds&rockpile,Boomtown rats.peter Gabriel.frank Zappa and then THE TUBES...first time I had seen a car driven on stage. For Don't touch me their....Brilliant it helped that I had been playing their albums for quite a few years..
A brilliant gig, a pity the audio isn't the same quality as the Zappa set before it.
forgot all about these guys. their visual is a big part of the show.
