What’s the movie Backdraft about?
When a spate of fires occurs, two Chicago Firefighter brothers who don’t get along really well, are forced to work together. Stephen (Kurt Russell from The Thing and Furious 7) and Brian McCaffrey (William Baldwin from Flatliners and Silver) will do anything they can to stop the arsonist.

Backdraft is absolutely brilliant . The fire in the movie just knew the firefighters were gonna take it out but it had to fight back and that’s why it’s the star of the movie
You might like documentary Burn: A Year on the Front Line in the Battle to Save Detroit
Even to the point she jumped floors smashing windows to cause multiple Backdrafts in one fire, that was intense, even the fact that you can see Tim covering up someone's oxygen tank, trooper he is!
“The Beast”
They made the fires into scary monsters/beasts. Made the fire a character and to me it was the real star of this movie.
And Billy shags some fire on a truck.
Listen this film is rather silly
I love how the FX teams gave the fire "a voice" each time! You can hear growls!
That's very real... It's the wood and the steel and the fire also .. those sounds still haunt me.. they are more exaggerated but they are not SFX... Those sounds are real.
My uncle Lyndsey is currently a firefighter ( been doing it for 28 years), and he's just the bravest and coolest MAN I know. I've got the maddest respect for him
you mean your aunt?

Nightingale: Sorry kid, I thought you were dead!
Love the sound design in the movie
1991 WAS ONE HELL OF A YEAR
Good bit of writing at 4:36. Too bad they cut the linking scene out. In an original draft of the screenplay they had lost a member in the line of duty at a fire where they had no backup due to the cutbacks. He starts to say the name of the firefighter and realizes he's not there. "Down to two probies, great" not the world's greatest situation when it's getting shitty. They had a scene that was filmed and aired on some TV versions where they visited the widow later on, during the montage.
The visit to the widow is one of several deleted scenes that’s on the DVD. I also had the poster for this movie on my dorm at uni back in 1992. I eventually gave it to a firehouse in my home city
Why I love firefighters and I guess that's why I love the movie back draft so much thanks guys love you guys
I can watch this movie all day, just like Ladder 49 & Fireproof
This film has numerous flaws, it is a bit overwrought at times but goddamn this was really heart stopping and scary. A reason to go see on the big screen! Love good action scenes that aren’t all CGI
I saw it on the big screen a few days ago. Best $20 I ever spent on a childhood favorite.
I always can't get over that they go in without masks. Pure insanity! But they have to have their face time
I don't know what it is but Kurt Russell when he cuss it has more of an impact
Just saw last night I brought on DVD at Goodwill . totally a blast ..
We used to refer to fires as “backdraft fires” as the one in a decade no smoke/ heat we’d have
Their treating a fire like it’s some creature
well you in a sense have too because it is in a way a living monster that breathes, eats, and destroys and if one isn't careful, that monster can kill you and everyone else in that building
@@derekwall200 I also mean that the fire is making sounds that aliens and monsters make.
That's what makes this movie standout from other firefight movies. The fire was a character and to me the real star of the film.
“You go. We go.”
Still say that line to this day.
The fire scenes in this film they can't photograph today
Why not? 🤷
@@donarthiazi2443 too much cgi . Now this can't be made today most films is all about agendas mow
@@isaiahbrooks7271
You have a point with the CGI. If done in moderation and done well it can greatly add to the film. But mostly it's used too much and made very obvious
@@donarthiazi2443 I'm old school I love the original filmaking back in 90. Back then movies was just pure art
Flashover is more terrible than backdraft in the fire place
well a backdraft is worse in my opinion because of how quickly the flames can surge at you if you're unlucky enough to open a door to room full of smoke where most of the oxygen inside is almost consumed with a flame still flickering. and once someone opens the door and reintroduces oxygen to the room, the flames will surge at you very quickly with enough force to blow you off your feet and destroy parts of the structure.
I remember those old air paks... scott 1.1
You can't see your hand in front of your face in a fire
Good thing it’s a fucking MOVIE.
@@MoparGuy1625 yep, you couldn't see anything on screen besides a big cloud of smoke
At all 😂😂😂😂
How would you know? You’re a hillbilly volunteer, not a real firefighter
Yes Just Like Universal Studios Theme Park.
That ride actually scared the shit out of me.
Had a very successful run for 18 years before closing for something new.
Awsome movie but I assume it has as much realism as Captian America.
There’s been fires like this in New York City. Especially in apartment buildings
@@giannimagdalen9301 They have fires in New York that don't produce black smoke, allow perfect visibility, have fire fighters that don't wear their masks and disappear into the walls only to explode out of another wall 5 seconds later? I'm pretty sure they don't.
@@giannimagdalen9301 He’s talking about them not having their masks on
😂😂😂😂
That’s actually how they used to do it. It was an option back in the day and I can remember going to visit a fire station and see the bunker gear that had soot stains and what not

How was there no back up when that’s clearly 4 alarm fire 😂
The alderman closed down a nearby firehouse
Because of cutbacks? The almighty 💵
This closed captioning is horrible.
question: if they did tackle that fire head on like they did would it really flash on you?
Possibly but that was back then and the fires were burning different materials now most fires are burning different with more drywall and plastic.
So fires were different
If it was about to flash you would know it . The heat in that room would have been unbearable. Also the smoke would have been a different color. In this case I didn't see any smoke so no it wasn't going to flash.

Hello
1🇺🇲🔥☄️☄️🔥 INRI...
Backdraft was a great Hollywood movie but in this fire if it were a still alarm the minimum equipment responding would be 2 Engines, 2 Trucks, 1 Battalion Chief if it was a box alarm then they would have sent 4 Engines,
2 Trucks, 1 Battalion Chief
In the movie they sent only one truck and one engine which is not the normal response for a working structure fire and even if the alderman had closed down stations then stations even though they may be far away would still have been responding to this fire there would not be a situation where there was absolutely no backup whatsoever
So, even with no nearby active stations, there still coulda been backup?
@@joewhitehead3 even if they had to come from the other side of town or from other cities or towns as mutual aid no big city department would send just an engine and a truck to a commercial structure fire of that size it's a liability not only for the firefighters but for any victims that may be trapped
@@leeshaver7825 But wouldn’t those firefighters need to stay within their area in case they need to respond to an emergency near them?
@@joewhitehead3 no because other stations in their district would cover the area

Why break the windows
In theory, it lets the smoke and heart out. You have a lot of variables and can't just start punching out windows willy-nilly, or you can create more problems for yourself. There are classes on proper ventilation.
Ever heard of surround and drown

Most firefighters hate these movies, just to fake and hollywood doesnt even try to make it realistic.
& yet, some were involved in this movie
A firefighter wrote the screenplay
Actually most firefighters I've ever known including myself, love this movie. because it's entertaining and action-packed and badass. we just recognize that it has a lot of inaccuracies and that's not how most things are really done.
Most firefighters hate the stupid (and often woke) shows. Most firefighters i know kinda like some of the shows, if they have good characters and funny bits, and most firefighters love backdraft. Personally, I like Chicago Fire, but can't stand 911 or Station 19.
Pathetic! All the editor did in some shots was just reverse the film
OMG, this movie is utterly cringeworthy from the point of view of realism.
Dumb movie.
How?
