Chinese drone maker DJI is dominating the market - despite being blacklisted by the U.S.

  • Drones of several varieties have been used on the battlefield during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, including makes from DJI.
    The global drone market is expected to grow from $30.6 billion in 2022 to $55.8 billion by 2030, according to a report by Drone Industry Insights. DJI dominates more than 70% of that market.
    DJI’s first commercially successful product was the Phantom drone, which DJI founder Frank Wang claims made DJI the first company to bring “military-grade technology” to the public.
    “The unfortunate thing is that (DJI drones are) very reliable. So, it’s become a product of choice, even for those who want to use a drone inappropriately,” Adam Welsh, DJI’s Head of Global Policy, told CNBC.
    A recent controversy around DJI products being used for warfare isn’t the only problem the company has faced.
    In December 2021, the Shenzhen-based drone maker was placed on an investment blacklist by the U.S. government, banning American investors from buying or selling shares in the company.
    That move is largely symbolic, however, since DJI is a private company.
    Watch the video above to understand why the Chinese drone maker is dominating the market - despite being blacklisted by the U.S.

      It's surprising that these bans are only being implemented now. Businesses operating in foreign countries must comply with local laws or face consequences. For example, China has restricted Western electric cars in certain areas under new legislation. Similarly, Chinese cars and other hardware that fail to adhere to Western data protection laws should face restrictions in the West. Any objections in this comment section are likely from bots, and frankly, are irrelevant. Each country has the right to enforce its own rules.

    Haters will always say Chinese make low quality products. This is because they have a victim mentality as they try to cheat the oldest practice of sales: you get what you pay for. Any culture and their manufacturer is guilty of this. However, if you're willing to pay for a high quality product, you get a high quality product. I love high quality Chinese products. My favorite drone is the now discontinued DJI Spark. That little sucker is built like a tank and it has allowed me numerous memorable experiences in filming and photography. My slight criticism is that the battery runs for about 15 minutes only. But then again, it's a very old model. I still love it!

      Best bang for your buck is to build your own. However if you do not have those skills such as soldering and simple programming... you are almost stuck with DJI. Theres a few other options but they are daunting to a newb, so DJI gets all this "they are the best" claims from people who dont know any better.

    DJI are dominating the market largely because their products are super reliable, easy to obtain, and they are well supported engineering wise. The fact that humans are using them for purposes they were not designed for is typical of all man made products which are often used for violent purposes. But blaming DJI for making a superb product equally useful for war is like blaming the gun manufacturer for murders committed by people who use them criminally. There is no logic in blaming misuse on the product itself....

    • @wearesimulated1579
      @wearesimulated1579 Před rokem

      Prohibition doesn't work with drugs. If you want to actually fix the drug problem in America, you decriminalize ALL drugs and spend money on public health programs and finally start treating addiction like a disease. Countries that have done this see absolutely huge drops in hard drug usage. The reason this doesn't happen in the USA is because the "war on drugs" is never supposed to be won.
      Also banning guns won't work either. People can 3D print weapons now and they might not work as long as a traditional one, but they will work quite well for awhile. The USA also has an absolutely ridiculous amount of firearms. Banning guns would cause so much turmoil that it is a genuinely terrible idea. We need gun control, not banning of guns. Go look up how many firearms the US has, we have more guns than anywhere in the world.
      The USA also needs less tribalism, more mental health awareness and treatment, as well as a mainstream media that does not give mass shooters infamy. These things could drastically improve the amount of gun violence in the United States.

    DJI is not the apple of drones! It is the Android of drones, since it owns more than 70% of drone market. Its drones are practical and cheap and so robust that even they are being used for military purpose.
    I own a DJI Air2S and I am telling you, it is impossible to shake off the connection. The footage is so stunning, the gimbal on it is so stable, the software is updated religiously by them and you can hardly find any bugs in their software. Flying the drone is very easy and the remote and drone's built quality is top notch. They have done everything right until now and hence they are sitting at the top as a drone manufacturer.
