I think your reviews are great as is without the RPM stats. Your descriptions of feel and playability are so helpful and informative.
Thank you very much, it's nice to hear that. I'm just hoping to take that next step and thinking maybe those stats are necessary to do so.
Real paddle heads know Luca is the 🐐
Ahaha thank you 😅
Another excellent review, pointing out/highlighting the subtleties between very similar Kevlar hybrid paddles. Not an easy task that's very well done. Much appreciated! Mahalo!
Thank you very much!
First impression of my J2k was that it was an amazing control paddle, but without any power or pop. After about 30 hours of play control dropped and the power and pop was incredible. Now using this as my singles paddle. Went back to the Pickleball Apes S for control and doubles.
Consensus seems to be that grit is retained much better on these than the Ruby. Also a fair bit lighter when it comes to swingweight. Having played both, I'll take the J2K hands down. Ruby always felt off to me
I bought a J2K about 3 weeks ago, loved it so much that I bought a second one arriving mid-June! Have a Ronbus R3.16, and a Vatic Pro Flash. I normally don’t buy multiple paddles assuming there will always be something better down the road, but the J2K just did it for me. Great power, controllable pop, serious spin, plush feel and amazing stability even on off center shots. The sweet spot on the J2K is huge. Volleying drives never felt so good. True, the graphics could be better, but I don’t really care.
Awesome! Glad it's working for you.
I also bought 2 of these J2K's :)
Would like to see comparison between Six Zero Black Diamond and Honolulu J2H as both have carbon/fiberglass face with hybrid shape. Keep up the good reviews! Don't need more rpm data as it is everywhere.
Good shout, I'll see what I can do.
@@RacketsandRunnersPickleball Yes! This! Love to see these 2 paddles compared! Both are the frontrunners for my next paddle - to take my game to the next level :) (I hope!)
I just received my J2k last week and I am absolutely loving this paddle. The only thing I noticed was two things. One was the paddle was light for me. The second being that the paddle had a night and day difference in the feeling from the sweet spot to outside the sweet spot, particularly at the bottom part near the throat. Obviously the sweet spot will be more lively than the non-sweet spot, but some paddles less of a discrepancy between the areas. However, to combat this I placed three grams of lead tape on each side of the throat. Doing this killed two birds with one stone in terms of the weight and sweet spot. Also I will mention that The Honolulu Pickleball Company is the fourth brand I have bought paddles from. They by far had the best customer support. Super friendly, exceptionally quick with email responses for a business given the time difference (within 10 hours). Very refreshing when a really values customer support, and on top of it they have a great product. Definitely going to be doing business with them again.
Glad you're liking it, it's a fantastic paddle!
Would love to see a review on the J7K and pro version! You go into much more detail than most reviewers do so would love to get your opinions!
Thank you, and I'm really excited about that one! I think we're bringing it in ASAP
I come here precisely to hear your thoughts on how a paddle feels. That's what's unique/valuable about your channel compared to others. RPM stats aren't critical for me so long as I know a paddle is within the upper 25% and the peel ply resin isn't wearing abnormally. Interesting how earlier reviewers thought the J2K was a little more plush/soft/muted than the Ruby but that might just be due to their close similarity, production variances, or reviewer play styles. Guess I'll find out when my J2K shows up. Also heard Dale said the latest batch of Rubys have a lower SW than the previous batch - wonder how that affects its TW.
That's very nice to hear thank you. Perhaps adding twist weight and swing weight more consistently would help, but I'll stay away from RPMs and velocity metrics.
I have the J2K and it’s a fine paddle but I do wish it had a more plush feeling.
It looks like a great paddle. I already have the Hudef viva pro gen 3, which is also made of Kevlar, are they any different?
Would love to see review on basic J2
I'm not sure I'll do a full review but maybe a hybrid paddles comparison.
Been waiting on an upload post soon.
Thanks for this review - about ready to order the J2K but wondering which Ronbus paddles you like and think I should look at for all court paddle? Thanks
The Pulsar FX and the Novas are fantastic all-court paddles!
Great reviews, thank you!! Question for you concerning paddle construction in general. I have a Ruby and I noticed the lower 1/3 of the paddle has a hollow sound and hits much weaker than the upper 2/3 of the paddle. Then I noticed most paddles of my friends do the same thing except maybe the gearbox. Why is this? And are there any non gearbox paddles that don’t have this issue? Maybe something to do with where the edge foam ends, I’m not sure. Just wondering. It frustrates me most on blocks and quick kitchen play where I don’t always hit the sweet spot. Thanks!!
The only thing I'll say is that outside the sweet spot, paddles can feel a little hollow at times or at least make a hollow noise.
Can you review Spartus Apollo ?
We may be bringing them in although I'm not quite sure yet.
When are you going to review the Hurache paddles?
I want to see your thoughts on the ProStar by Nexus as you spoke about foam cores and different types of surfaces.
I'll talk to our buyer!
Would love to see your thoughts on the B&B Shogun
Review coming soon!
Hey I was wondering if you could possibly do the thrive azul?
Yes, I'm slightly injured at the moment - Oni review coming next - but that one's in the works.
Need your opinion. Looking at getting the Mach 1 forza or possibly the nova 1? Thoughts?
I prefer the Nova but you can't go wrong with either.
Please review the Spartus Apollo and compare with Volair Mach 2 Forza, DBD and Kevlar paddles.
We're in contact with Spartus, hopefully bringing them in soon!
@@RacketsandRunnersPickleball Thrive Azul would be another good one to review.
J1H next please 🙏
Review the vatic oni!
That's next!
Hi Luca, quick question, is J2K better option than Ruby? I have actually Apes Energy S with lead tape like you recommended in one or your CZcams videos,
You think I can feel difference and worth the change?
Also I have Hyperion c2
I would like read your comments.
Thanks
The J2K and Ruby are both fantastic and it's really just a matter of personal preference. I find both have better feel than the PLES because they're full Kevlar.
What are your thoughts on the j2k vs the 14mm ruby?
I haven't played with the 14mm Ruby yet, unfortunately.
Any plans to update the paddle tier list soon for summer?
We've got quite a few to review before we remake it.
Trying to find the j2k on your website but can only find the pro would you be getting the standard one?
We sold out but we're waiting on a restock soon!
Kevlar is nice but the maintenance for these kevlar paddles are quite annoying. It hasn't happened to my kevlar paddle but my friends kevlar paddle is starting the see some kevlar threads coming loose on the face. I'll be sticking with carbonfiber paddles.
They can be replaced if it’s within the warranty period
I asked Honolulu Pickleball about cleaning the J2K. Mentioned to them that Six Zero does not recommend using rubber erasers on the Ruby because they might pull out strands of kevlar. Per Honolulu, they use a different weave than Six Zero so it is safe to use rubber erasers on J2K…just don’t overdo it (their words, not mine) and follow the direction of the weave. Personally, I use microfiber cloth and a cleaning fluid like Pickle Juice Clean Shot. Does a great job and I assume it is gentler on the grit than an eraser.
@@easton12A Thanks for sharing. I was wondering the same.
I think there no downside to adding more info like Swing Weight, Twist Weight and RPM. More metrics the better imo
Swing weight and twist weight I totally agree, I just don't have a great way of measuring it myself at the moment.
When, when, when...Ronbus FX R2? 😊
Soon!
Hi don't you have rebate from the manufacturer like other podcast???
No, unfortunately not, as we are a retail store.
How does it compare to the new Ruby 14 mm?
Yes I want to know this as well
Haven’t played it yet but can’t wait.
How come you switched from Tourna to I assume Yonex..?
That's actually Head's Prime Pro overgrip but is basically the same as Yonex. I wouldn't say I've switched I just don't NEED Tourna for pickleball the way I do for tennis. I probably still prefer Tourna ever so slightly though.
How do i purchase a J2K If i'm in Australia ?
We don’t ship to Australia, unfortunately. I’m not sure where you can find it there.
so you prefer the ruby over the dbd so this review tells me you prefer the j2k over the dbd???
It's very close but I played better with the J2K so I'm going J2K all the way!
Luca,
It's starting to feel like RPM's is either a pre-requisite, or just a copycat statistic. If you start talking about RPM's, then you open the floodgates for all of the other stats like swing weight, twist weight, etc. And then you're more in head to head competition with the JohnKews and PB Studios of the world.
Since swing weight, weight, twist weight and RPM's is readily available information, it might be OK to just spend 3-4 seconds showing that data. But I think it's good that you talk about the nuanced differences (like slight clunkier feel and less flickability), which is something that other reviewers likely would not talk about. This is what people are looking for when they watch your videos.
The thing is, I'd really like to take the next step on this channel and to do that we need to get paddles early to be one of the first reviews. I understand the need to add TW/SW so that every spec is easily attainable here, I just wonder how important RPM/Velocity is now if you want people to turn to you to see how good a paddle is. The feel and nuanced on-court playability, I'll always keep, but it seems like those numbers are almost required because that's the baseline for judging a paddle right now. I can say that a paddle is very powerful/very spin-friendly but without the numbers backing it up, people may not consider that legitimate enough proof.
@@RacketsandRunnersPickleball I think expectations will depend on the audience demographic. There are probably a lot of people out there who *must* have high RPM numbers (possibly because they don't know how to generate spin and rely on the paddle). But that's a fair amount of work & time unless you buy that radar gun that John Kew has which also measures RPM (mentioned in a recent podcast). For SW and TW, a Briffidi is less of an investment in capital & time.
@@RacketsandRunnersPickleballif you want to be first to market, you need the tech specs. And yes, RPMs is a requirement IMO. But tell them whether or not you can tell difference between 2100 vs 2300 rpms for example. Because most people can’t.
Just gonna cross out the 3:16 and put 4/20 with a sharpie
Kevlar is just not as good as carbon. Don't falk for the Kevlar hype.
I have to disagree there. At first I thought it was overdone but it has very unique playability.
@@RacketsandRunnersPickleballAs Luka has said Kevlar has unique playability. Specifically an emphasis on feel which always keeps me coming back to this channel because out of all the CZcamsrs Luca's style matches mine the most. I do think you should start adding RPM, swing weight etc.
Paddle design is ugly. Mark Pickleball paddles look way better for a similar price point
Buyer beware. This Christian company has stamped bible verse “John3:16” to top of paddle on both sides. Sword and Shield is a Christian reference. J2K is “Journey to the Kingdom”. This company is using pickleball paddles to evangelize.
oh, bummer. Going for the Ruby instead, then.
Thank you for pointing that out! I ordered a paddle from the 808 as soon as I became aware of that 🤙 (Went with the new J7K)
Sweet! I’ll be getting 2 then 😊
Good to know, Thanks! Will Definitely be supporting them then!!
Thanks for making the choice easier, bud! But I’m also pretty sure you are wrong on your brilliant insight since their prior models were J2, J3 etc without the K, and now the K ones feature I don’t know KEVLAR. 😂
